Department of Education (ED) initiative to collect, analyze, report on and promote the use of high-quality, kindergarten through grade 12 (K–12) performance data for use in education planning, policymaking, management, and budget decision making to improve outcomes for students. EDFacts centralizes data provided by State Education Agencies (SEA), Local Education Agencies (LEA) and Schools to provide users with the ability to easily analyze and report on submitted data. Annually collects fiscal and non-fiscal data about all public schools, school districts and state education agencies in the United States. Data supplied by SEA officials includes descriptive information. State education agencies provide EDFacts data annually on approximately 180 data groups to the Department using the EDEN Submission System (ESS). Data submitted through the ESS are provided to meet federally mandated program data reporting requirements. EDFacts Data Collection Tools The EDFacts Metadata and Process System (EMAPS) An online collection tool that collects supplementary metadata and information from State Education Agencies (SEAs) as needed. EMAPS is intended to obtain state data that supplement, not duplicate, data transmitted through the ESS. EDFacts Data Collection Tools Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) An online survey of Local Education Agencies (LEAs) Collections transmitted through this online survey are intended to obtain data that supplement, not duplicate, data transmitted through the ESS. Federal Reporting Stats SY 2014-2015 Federal reporting cycle begins in January every year and covers an 18 month span ending June 1st. There are a total of 96 files. Each file can have multiple levels of submission (School, LEA, SEA). The Data Reporting Unit (DRU) at the Division of Research & Technology is responsible for submitting 83 files and the Special Education Office is responsible for 13 files . The files are submitted to ESS (EDFacts) at levels (State Education Agency (SEA), Local Education Agency (LEA or District), and School Level (SCH).
