Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Type CP7005 Half-Depth Cabinet F Section 2 5 Figure 2-Table 2 2 2 Type CP7005 Half-Depth Cabinet The Type CP7005 Half-Depth Cabinet is an equipment enclosure that houses rack and surface-mounted units used with PROVOXr Instrumentation Systems. A cabinet consists of the following: J Cabinet frame with lifting eyes, leveling feet, and support bracket J High temperature sensor J Full-length door with keylock, fans, and filters J Full-length side panels J Full-length back panel J Top and bottom panels J Full-height EIA mounting rails with vertical cable trays J Power bus bar A rigid, key-locking front door contains a continuous foamed-in gasket that seals the cabinet when the door is shut. The back panel is removable to facilitate back-to-back assembly. Full-height 19 inch (483 mm) EIA rails allow mounting of Control I/O termination panels and other rack-mountable equipment. Lifting eyes secure the top panel to the cabinet frame and provide attachment points for lifting. The lifting eyes extend upward 2.25 inches (57 mm). Leveling feet, mounted on the bottom corners of the cabinet, have an adjustable range of 1 inch (25.4 mm) minimum to 1.5 inches (38.1 mm) maximum. External cabling enters the cabinet from the top or through the bottom panel. Internally, cables route through horizontal and vertical cable trays for distribution among the internally mounted instruments. The cabinet is equipped with a power bus bar to distribute 24 Vdc in the cabinet and provide a common dc return. The 24 Vdc is user-supplied. The bus bar also provides a common termination for signal return. The bus bar connects to a grounding bus bar at the bottom of the cabinet. The grounding bus bar provides a single point ground for the cabinet. Shield grounds attach to the cabinet frame. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) 2 Section 2 F Type CP7005 Half-Depth Cabinet 6 A plinth-type cabinet base is an optional alternative to the leveling feet. The base raises the cabinet 3.96 inches (100 mm) to facilitate bottom cable entry and dc power and signal wiring access. This eliminates the need for raised flooring. The base has easily removed front, back, and side panels to allow the use of a fork-lift, or other lifting equipment, in positioning cabinets in the plant. Optional joining kits connect and seal joined frames to preserve environmental integrity. 2 Fans are mounted in the top section of the door to provide cooling air to the enclosed devices. The air is drawn through filters located in the bottom section of the door. A high temperature sensor mounted at the top of the cabinet frame supplies heat monitoring capability in each system cabinet. 2.1 Physical Installation Figure 2-1 shows outline dimensions for the cabinet and the optional plinth. Top-mounted brackets are supplied for anchoring the cabinet. The cabinets can meet NEMA 12 application standards when equipped with solid top, door fans, and bottom wire entry. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Type CP7005 Half-Depth Cabinet F Section 2 7 Caution ... Access space between the closed door of a cabinet and a wall or other obstruction is of primary concern when planning cabinet installations. The distance between facing cabinets should be sufficient to allow access with doors open, and also provide an aisle for personnel movement. It is recommended, that safety personnel and your Fisher-Rosemount representative be consulted for assistance in this area. When planning cabinet installation, calculate the final cabinet dimensions based on the component parts used. The recommended clearance for the door is a minimum of 48 inches (1220 mm). Door swing is 31.25 inches (794 mm). 2.2 Electrical Installation Electrical installation includes providing the following to each cabinet: J 24 Vdc power J System grounding J Field wiring Prepare the electrical installation using the guidelines in the documents listed in subsection 1.7. These documents provide a basic overview for understanding the electrical requirements of a PROVOX Instrumentation System. Requirements pertinent to cabinet installation are discribed in the following paragraphs. All wiring between instruments installed in each cabinet is completed at the factory. To connect the high temperature sensor mounted at the top of the cabinet frame, connect it to appropriate terminals on a nearby Type CP6103 System Power Supply Unit, which provides the contacts to activate an external alarm. The sensor can also connect directly to an external alarm, or to discrete input products of Control I/O subsystems for monitoring by a system console. The connection to the discrete input unit can be factory installed. Make direct external alarm connections at the installation site. The sensor is rated at 5 A (Max), at 28 Vdc. Connection to the sensor uses 2 tap-to-screw type terminals. For additional information on alarm connections, refer to the manual, AC and DC Power and Ground Wiring. PN1:003. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) 2 Section 2 F Type CP7005 Half-Depth Cabinet 8 Note ... All connections must be fully insulated and conform to local, state and national electrical codes. 2 2.3 System Grounding For proper system performance, a single instrumentation system earth ground point should be provided. An example ground connection is shown in Figure 2-2. Power Substation Ground Plant Ground Grid Ground Rod Plant Ground Grid Connection Figure 2-2. Dedicated Instrumentation System Ground Plant Ground System Example The instrumentation ground may be a separate plant ground or a point on the plant ground grid. The grounding point must, however, be separated from the ground points for all other electrical devices (welders, motors, and so on). Any ground points for lightning protection devices must be at least 6 feet (1.8 m) from all other ground points. A high quality instrumentation system ground should provide a ground point that measures one ohm or less to true earth. In some cases, three ohms may be acceptable. In an unfavorable area, it may be necessary to select the best ground impedance available. There are several methods that can be used to obtain a high quality earth ground system, and these methods vary depending upon the soil type and moisture content at the individual location. Specific guidelines for grounding are described in the manual, AC and DC Power and Ground Wiring, PN1:003. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Type CP7005 Half-Depth Cabinet F Section 2 2.4 9 Cabinet Grounding The cabinet grounding system provides protection against property damage and accidental shock to personnel. It also provides a direct line for grounding any electromagnetic interference in signal shield wires, such as from static discharge or lightning. The cabinet frames and the vertical cable trays in each multi-cabinet grouping connect together through the cabinet grounding system. At the installation site, provide a cabinet ground connection separate from the dc ground connection for each cabinet grouping. Use 0.50 inch (12.7 mm) wide, or larger, flat braided wire straps to connect the following in a cabinet grouping: J The vertical cable trays to the mounting studs J The mounting studs in adjacent cabinets J J 2.5 The mounting stud in the center cabinet of a multi-cabinet grouping to the cabinet ground The grounding studs on cabinet panels to the mounting studs on the cabinet frame DC Grounding Type CP7921 System Cabinet Grounding Kits provide proper dc ground connections for the system cabinets. Kits are separately ordered products which include either a local ground bus (LGB) or a master ground bus (MGB). The LGB provides a common ground point for all power supply common (PSC) circuitry within a cabinet group of eight or fewer. The MGB provides a common ground point for as many as six cabinet groupings, each with an LGB. Therefore, as many as 48 cabinets can be tied together and connected to an earth ground from one point. If a local area has more than 48 cabinets, use additional LGBs and MGBs and connect all MGBs to the designated instrumentation system earth ground. The large terminal lug in the center of the LGB accepts 1/0 to 4/0 AWG (53.46 to 107.25 mm2) wire and connects to the MGB. If one cabinet grouping forms the entire cabinet system, the terminal lug can be connected directly to the system earth ground. The large terminal lug at the side of the LGB accepts 1/0 to 4/0 AWG (53.46 to 107.25 mm2) wire and is the connector for the battery backup return line (if used). The seven terminal lugs on the MGB accept 1/0 to 4/0 AWG (53.46 to 107.25 mm2) wire. One of the seven terminals connects to the system earth ground, and the other six connect to cabinet grouping LGBs. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) 2 Section 2 F Type CP7005 Half-Depth Cabinet 10 Both the LGB and MGB are factory-installed at the bottom front panel of the system cabinet centrally located in each group. Factory personnel complete internal connections for each cabinet grouping. During site installation, complete the connections between the cabinet groupings and the earth ground. To make wire connections at the terminal lugs, loosen the setscrew on top of the terminal lug until the wire slips into the hole under the wire clamp. Insert the wire into the hole, and tighten the setscrew until the wire is held securely. 2 2.6 Shield Grounding The built-in shield grounding facility provides a common termination point for shielded field wiring. The shield ground point (SGP) is a copper bus bar mounted in each horizontal cable tray. The shield ground bar is connected to the EIA rails or the cabinet frames. Use 8 AWG (8.34 mm2) or larger multi-strand jacketed wire to connect the following: J All shields to SGPs in each cabinet J All SGPs in each cabinet to the EIA rails or cabinet frame J J 2.7 All EIA rails and cabinet files to the LGB in the center of a multi-cabinet grouping The LGB in the center of the multi-cabinet grouping to the MGB Field Wiring Two 4 by 4 inch (101.6 by 101.6 mm) square openings in the top of the cabinet panel provide top entry for field wiring. Square covers are provided to seal the openings when not used. To route wiring into the cabinets from overhead wireways, use square non-conductive wireways, terminated with flanges that can be screwed down to the top of the cabinet. To complete the routing, remove the cover from the top panel, retaining the mounting screws for connecting the wireway. Use the provided foam stripping to form a seal for the connection of the wireway to the top panel. Route the wiring into the cabinet and into the vertical and horizontal cable trays. When internal routing is complete, secure the external wireway by using the four screws from the entry covers to connect the flanges to the top panel. Visually inspect the junction to ensure that the foam stripping completely seals the connection. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Type CP7010 System Cabinet F Section 3 11 Figure 3-Table 3 3 3 Type CP7010 System Cabinet The Type CP7010 System Cabinet is an equipment enclosure that houses rack and surface-mounted units used with PROVOXr Instrumentation Systems. A cabinet consists of the following: J Cabinet frame with lifting eyes and leveling feet J High temperature sensor J Full-length door with keylock J Top and bottom panels The Type CP7010 System Cabinet can be factory-assembled into multibay combinations consisting of as many as six cabinets joined together. Figure 3-1 shows nine possible combinations. Figure 3-1. Example of Factory Assembled Cabinet Arrangements Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) 3 Section 3 F Type CP7010 System Cabinet 12 Shipping considerations limit the size of a factory-assembled combination to three bays or a four pack; however, virtually any combination of back-to-back and side-to-side cabinet groupings can be assembled at the installation site. Lifting eyes secure the top panel to the cabinet frame and provide attachment points for lifting. The lifting eyes extend upward 2.25 inches (57 mm). Leveling feet, mounted on the bottom corners of the cabinet frame, are recommended for multibay combinations. The leveling feet have an adjustable range of 1 inch (25.4 mm) minimum to 1.5 inches (38.1 mm) maximum. 3 A plinth-type cabinet base is an optional alternative to the leveling feet. The base raises the cabinet 4.04 inches (103 mm) to facilitate bottom cable entry and power and signal wiring access. This eliminates the need for raised flooring. The base has easily removed front, back, and side panels to allow the use of a fork-lift, or other lifting equipment, in positioning cabinets in the plant. Optional joining kits connect and seal joined frames to preserve environmental integrity. A high temperature sensor mounted at the top of the cabinet frame supplies heat monitoring capability in each system cabinet. 3.1 Physical Installation Figure 3-2 shows outline dimensions for a typical cabinet and component parts. Use these physical characteristics to determine needed floor space and transportation routes for the cabinets. If a single cabinet is used as a stand-alone unit, certification standards may require the cabinet to be secured to the building structure. These documents provide an understanding of the electrical requirements of a PROVOX Instrumentation System. Requirements pertinent to cabinet installation are discribed in the following paragraphs. All ac and dc wiring between instruments installed in each cabinet is completed at the factory. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Type CP7010 System Cabinet F Section 3 15 To connect the high temperature sensor mounted on the top of the cabinet frame, connect it to appropriate terminals on the Type CP6103 System Power Supply Unit, which provides the contacts to activate an external alarm. The sensor can also connect directly to an external alarm, or to discrete input products of PROVOX I/O subsystems for monitoring by a system console. The connection to the discrete input unit can be factory installed. Make direct external alarm connections at the installation site. The sensor is rated at 5 A (Max), at 28 Vdc. Connection to the sensor uses 2 tap-to-screw type terminals. For additional information on alarm connections, refer to the manual, AC and DC Power and Ground Wiring, PN1:003. External cabling enters the cabinet from the top (in units without top-mounted air conditioners) or through the bottom panel. Internally, cables route through horizontal and vertical cable trays for distribution among the internally mounted instruments. Laminated bus bars distribute instrument power, and dc power common to the card files. Shield grounds attach to the cabinet frame and provide common terminations for connecting field wiring shields to cabinet ground. Note ... All connections must be fully insulated and conform to local, state, and national electrical codes. 3.3 AC Power The ac power requirements depend upon the equipment mounted in the system cabinet. The equipment may include Fisher-Rosemount units, cabinet-mounted air conditioners, or other rack mounted units specified by the user. AC power cabling may enter the cabinet at either the top or the bottom, as shown in Figure 3-3. The instrumentation system equipment uses a nominal 24 volts dc. To provide this power, the Type CP6103 System Power Supply Units are available. Refer to the power supply product bulletin, BU4.4:CP6103, to determine the input power requirements for your selected power supplies. Keeping the air conditioning unit input power separate from other ac power inputs minimizes variation in the power provided to the system power supplies. Use a circuit breaker with a minimum gap of 0.125 inch (3 mm) for the air conditioner ac power. For ac power ground, ensure that all input power sources use the same single system earth ground as the entire PROVOX Instrumentation System. For wiring diagrams and instructions for ac power connections at the power supply housing, refer to the related documents listed in subsection 1.7. An example ground connection is shown in Figure 3-7. Power Substation Ground Plant Ground Grid Ground Rod Plant Ground Grid Connection Figure 3-7. Dedicated Instrumentation System Ground Plant Ground System Example Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Section 3 F Type CP7010 System Cabinet 20 The instrumentation ground may be a separate plant ground or a point on the plant ground grid. The grounding point must, however, be separated from the ground points of all other electrical devices (welders, motors, and so on). Specific guidelines for grounding are described in the manual, AC and DC Power and Ground Wiring, PN1:003. 3 3.5 Cabinet and AC Power Grounding The cabinet frames and the vertical cable trays in each multi-cabinet grouping connect together through the cabinet grounding system. At the installation site, provide a cabinet ground connection separate from the dc ground connection for each cabinet grouping. The cabinet grounding system provides protection against property damage and accidental shock to personnel. It also provides a direct line for grounding any electromagnetic interference in signal shield wires, such as from static discharge or lightning. Use 0.50 inch (12.7 mm) wide, or larger, flat braided wire straps to connect the following in a cabinet grouping: J The vertical cable trays to the mounting studs J The mounting studs in adjacent cabinets J J The mounting stud in the center cabinet of a multi-cabinet grouping to the cabinet ground The grounding studs on cabinet panels to the mounting studs on the cabinet frame The cabinet grounding system also provides the ac power ground. For the power supplies, the ground connection on the input power terminal block straps to the power supply frame. Mounting the power supply in the system cabinet connects the units to the cabinet grounding system through the EIA rails and the cabinet frame. Similarly, the ground wire for the air conditioner unit connects to the air conditioner cover and frame, and the ac power ground connects to the cabinet grounding system through the mounting connections. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Type CP7010 System Cabinet F Section 3 3.6 21 DC Grounding Type CP7921 System Cabinet Grounding Kits provide proper dc ground connections for the system cabinets. Both the LGB and MGB are factory-installed at the bottom front panel of the system cabinet centrally located in each group. 3.7 Shield Grounding The built-in shield grounding facility provides a common termination point for shielded field wiring. The shield ground point (SGP) is a copper bus bar mounted in each horizontal cable tray. The shield ground bar is connected to the EIA rails or the cabinet frames. Use 8 AWG (8.34 mm2) or larger multi-strand jacketed wire to connect the following: J All shields to SGPs in each cabinet J All SGPs in each cabinet to the EIA rails or cabinet frame Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) 3 Section 3 F Type CP7010 System Cabinet 22 J J 3.8 All EIA rails and cabinet files to the LGB in the center of a multi-cabinet grouping The LGB in the center of the multi-cabinet grouping to the MGB Field Wiring In system cabinets without a top-mounted air conditioner, square openings (Figure 3-5) in the top cabinet panel provide top entry for data highway cables and field wiring. Square covers are provided to seal the openings when not used. 3 To route wiring into the cabinets from overhead wireways, use square non-conductive wireways, terminated with flanges that can be screwed down to the top of the cabinet. To complete the routing, remove the cover from the top panel, retaining the mounting screws for connecting the wireway. Use the provided foam stripping to form a seal for the connection of the wireway to the top panel. Route the wiring into the cabinet and into the vertical and horizontal cable trays. When internal routing is complete, secure the external wireway by using the four screws (refer to Figure 3-4 for mounting sequence) from the entry covers to connect the flanges to the top panel. Visually inspect the junction to ensure that the foam stripping completely seals the connection. For bottom entry, use the guidelines described in subsection 3.3 for ac power wiring bottom entry. 3.9 Air Conditioner Installation The factory ships air conditioner units separately from cabinet for installation at the plant site. Before installation, inspect the site and the equipment to ensure the following requirements are met: J J J J J J The cabinet installation site provides good ventilation for dissipation of heat from the air conditioner. The available ac power at the site meets the input requirements for the unit. (See the label on the unit). The ambient temperature is no greater than 131o F (55oC). The air conditioner packing is not damaged. Traces of oil damaged packing may indicate a loss of refrigerant due to a leak in the system. The cabinet is sealed correctly. If the cabinet is not sealed, condensation can occur in the cabinet. There is a gap of at least 8 inches (200 mm) between the air outlet louvers and any other surface. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Type CP7010 System Cabinet F Section 3 3.9.1 23 Mounting The air conditioner unit connects to the cabinet using two cutouts and six screws (for top-mounted units) or four bolts (for side-mounted units). Mounting procedures are the same whether the unit is top or side mounted. Position the unit and secure with hardware provided. Ensure that the foam strip on the outside of the panel forms a complete seal for the air conditioner/panel junction. 3.9.2 Electrical Connections The ac power cable is coiled and fastened to the inside of the air inlet duct for shipment. Use care when removing the cable to prevent pulling the temperature sensor from its support. Route the cable away from signal lines through the horizontal and vertical cable trays to the top or bottom of the cabinet, as required. Use the methods described above in subsection 3.3 to connect the power cable to the input power junction box supplying power for the air conditioner. 3.9.3 Setup After mounting and connecting the air conditioner, set the thermostat to the desired temperature setting. The factory setting is 95oF (35oC). Caution ... Setting the thermostat too low can cause the evaporator line to ice up, which could cause the air conditioner unit to fail. Never set the thermostat lower than 86oF (30oC). Set the thermostat, located behind the equipment terminal box in top-mounted units, or at the bottom right of side-mounted units, as follows: Step 1: Remove the rear panel on top-mounted units, or the unit cover on side mounted units. Step 2: Locate the thermostat and remove the screw from the middle of the thermostat setting knob. Step 3: Remove the setting knob. Step 4: Remove the retainer strip mounted beneath the setting knob. Step 5: Replace the setting knob and set the thermostat to the required temperature using the left-hand scale on the side of the thermostat. The scale is marked in oC. Changing the factory-set right-hand scale may cause compressor damage. Never attempt to change the setting of the right-hand scale. 3 Step 6: Remove the setting knob, replace the retainer strip, replace the setting knob, and secure the retaining screw. Step 7: Replace the rear panel or unit cover and secure screws. Note ... Allow the unit to stand for 30 minutes after installation before activation. This will permit the oil in the compressor to settle. 3.10 High Humidity Environments To avoid excessive condensation, keep the cabinet door closed, and provide an interlock to prevent the air conditioner from running when the door is open. 3.10.1 Top-Mounted Unit Condensate Handling The top-mounted air conditioning unit contains a condensate evaporation device. An internal drain pipes the condensate to a warm vapor pipe causing it to evaporate. If excessive humidity prevents complete condensate evaporation, fit an overflow pipe at the rear of the unit, and provide an extended drain hose to remove the condensate from the cabinet. 3.10.2 Side-Mounted Unit Condensate Handling The side-mounted air conditioning unit provides a drain outlet for 0.375 inch (9.53 mm) hose connection to pipe off condensate. To connect the hose, loosen the four retaining screws and remove the air conditioning unit cover. Feed the hose through the hole in the rear cover and attach it to the drain outlet. Replace the unit cover and secure the retaining screws. Route the hose to an appropriate drain. Figure 4-5. 4.3.1 Typical Console AC Power Wiring Determining Wire Size Operating voltage at the console table is affected by the voltage drop in the ac power wiring to the table. The voltage drop is determined by the length of the wiring, power drain by the equipment in the table, and the wire size. To minimize the voltage drop, use a wire size that will adequately carry the current required. Table 4-1 provides a guide for selecting wire sizes. The table lists the AWG size that provides approximately a one or two percent voltage drop for wire lengths between the circuit breaker panel and the table. Expressed as an equation, the voltage at the table will be: V a = V s − PV s where Va = Operating voltage available at the table connection Vs = Supply voltage at the circuit breaker panel P = One or two percent voltage drop in the ac wiring to the table Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) 30 Section 4 F CP7820-Series Console Tables Table 4-1. The wire lengths listed in Table 4-1 correspond to the length of the ac power wiring from the circuit breaker to a utility box installed in the floor beneath the console table. Additional information about the utility box is provided in the Wiring Connections section of this manual. The following example shows the ac power wire sizing procedure for an console table containing 105 to 125 volt ac devices. 1. Determine that a two percent voltage drop is acceptable: For the example, the supply voltage to the circuit breaker is 117 Vac. A two percent voltage drop yields: V a = 117 − 0.02(117) = 114.66 Therefore, (V a) > 105 Vac and a two percent voltage drop is acceptable. 2. Determine the wire size required from Table 4-1. Given a distance between the utility power strip and the circuit breaker panel of 48 feet (14.6m) and a two percent voltage drop, Table 2 shows that 8 AWG wire is required for this utility strip. If a two percent drop is unacceptable, use the second row to determine the wire size for a one percent drop. To obtain a one percent voltage drop in the above example, use 4 AWG wire. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) CP7820-Series Console Tables F Section 4 4.3.2 31 Balancing the AC Power Load Each utility power strip is rated at 15 amperes maximum. When certain devices are activated and deactivated, they may create power surges that cause the current draw to exceed the maximum rating. To keep from exceeding 15 amperes, balance the power load over the utility power strips so that the current draw on each is limited to 80 percent (12 amperes) of the maximum rating. Refer to the individual product bulletin specifications for maximum power for each unit. To find the maximum current (Imax ) for each unit, use the following formula: (I max) = W max V min The sum of all currents required by the units connected to the utility strip must be less than 12 amperes. The following example illustrates the calculation of total current for an console table utility power strip with a Type DC6531 Console Printer Unit and a Type DC6541 Console Disk Unit connected to it. 1. Calculate the maximum current required by each unit: J Type DC6531 Console Printer Unit I max = 800 = 7.62 A 105 J Type DC6541 Console Disk Unit I max = 720 = 6.67 A 108 2. All wiring must conform to applicable local, state, and federal 4 electrical codes. AC power wiring to the utility power strip in each console table must be connected to a separate circuit breaker. The circuit breakers for the console tables in each multibay grouping must be located in the same panel to provide common ground reference as stated in the manual, AC and DC Power & Ground Wiring, PN1:003. A wiring diagram for ac power to the console table is shown in Figure 4-5. The ac power wiring from each circuit breaker must be routed through rigid conduit from the circuit breaker panel to a utility box installed in the building floor. The utility boxes should be installed directly under the access panel in the console table. Ensure that the utility box does not make contact with the console. Note ... Metal conduit may act as a source for the introduction of electrical noise into the system. To isolate the console from this type of interference, avoid contact between conduit and console. A separate grounding conductor must be run from the ground bus at the circuit breaker panel to the utility box. You may use 8 AWG (3.264mm) wire, made up of a large number of small conductors, such as 168 strands of 30 AWG (0.25mm) to make the ground conductor. If the line power and neutral wires are larger than 8 AWG, the grounding conductor must be of equal size. If a multiconductor cable is routed to the utility box, the stranded grounding conductor must be connected in parallel with the grounding conductor and routed with it. All wires must be insulated from the conduit and the utility box. These cables should be of sufficient length to allow connection and positioning as shown in Figure 4-6. 12 AWG Three Connector Cable Utility Power Strip Strain-relief Clamp 4 Access Panel Console Bay Floor Strain-relief Clamp Conduit from Circuit Board Figure 4-6. The wires from the utility box to the utility power strip are typically shorter than the wires from the circuit breaker panel to the utility box. 12 AWG (2.052mm) wire will be satisfactory, since the voltage drop caused by the resistance of the shorter wires is negligible. Use the following procedures to make connections from the utility box to the utility power strip: 1. Remove the cover plate from the utility box. 2. Install a strain-relief clamp in the hole on the cover plate. 3. Route the cable attached to the female end of the twist-type connector through the strain-relief clamp. 4. Connect the cable to the wires in the utility box. 5. Replace the cover plate on the utility box and tighten the screws on the strain-relief clamp to secure the cable. 6. Remove screws securing the utility power strip faceplate. Installing PROVOXr System Cabinets and Console Tables (Revision C — March 2002) Section 4 F CP7820-Series Console Tables 34 7.
