INTRODUCTION
United Transformers Electric Company (Utec) located in 2nd Industrial
City, Riyadh – KSA. Established in 2001 with the aim to produce Distribution
transformers to meet the needs of public utilities in particular and private
industrial sector in general, as well as export markets.
Utec is a joint venture between Al- Fozan Group and Wilson Transformer
Company (WTC), Australia. WTC is one of the largest transformer producer in
Australia established in 1933.
Utec products range:
Distribution transformers, Oil filled (Hermetically Sealed & Conservator type) as
per IEC 60076 standard from 25kVA to 3150kVA up to 36KV (HV) & 1,100V (LV).
With state of the art technology, expertise, competency, production equipments
& facilities, Utec has executed various contracts for Local / Export Markets.
Since 2001, Utec has supplied thousands of Distribution Transformers in Local /
Export Markets to various Utilities and private sectors.
Our objective is to achieve customer satisfaction through timely compliance
with customer demands & requirements. We strive constantly to exceed our
customer expectations for quality, value, delivery and service.

STANDARDS
IEC 60076 and IEC 60354
SEC Specification No: 51 - SDMS, 56-SDMS, 51-TMSS (including latest revisions)
CONSTRUCTION
Corrugated or rigid tank, hermetically sealed with or without gas cushion.
Immersed in mineral oil (IEC60296 - Class I)
Natural cooling: ONAN (KNAN can be provided on request)
WINDING
Both HV and LV windings are made of copper (Aluminum on special request)
High Voltage winding: Delta connected.
Low Voltage winding: Star connected with neutral brought out.
Connection Group: Dyn11
Other configurations like YNd11, Yzn11 etc can be provided.
TEMPERATURE RISE LIMITS
Maximum ambient temperature: 550C (standard 500C).
Temperature rise of top oil: 40 - 60 0C (as per customer request) standard 450C
Avg. Temperature rise of windings: 45 - 650C (as per customer request) standard 500C
ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Frequency: 50 or 60 Hz
High Voltage:
Most used values: 13.8 kV or 33 kV
Also available: dual-primary voltage 13.8 – 11 kV, 11 – 6.6 kV.
Any voltage can be provided as per customer request. (Up to 36 kV class)
Low Voltage (at no load):
Most used values: 231 or 400 V
We may supply any voltage required by our client.
Tapping on HV side (by off-load tap changer): ±2.5% ±5% (we may also supply any tapping required by client).
Short Circuit withstand time = 2 seconds. (5 sec shot on customer request)
Impedance voltage:
As per IEC 60076 - 5 or as per customer request.
State of the art design tools and Engineering capabilities enable Utec to fulfill most
stringent requirements .

STANDARDS
Transformers are manufactured according to IEC 60076
in general and in particular as per concerned Utility / Client
Specifications.
CONSTRUCTION
Tank construction can be of any type mentioned below.
Hermetically Sealed without gas cushion

Magnetic Circuit
MAGNETIC CIRCUIT
The magnetic circuit (Fig.1) is made of a high quality cold
rolled, grain oriented silicon steel strips. Each strip is insulated
from both sides by Carlite and is cut with an angle 450. Step lap
and conventional mitered joint stacking is employed to reduce
the no-load losses and the exciting current.
WINDINGS
Both the Low Voltage and High Voltage windings (Fig.2) are made
of copper. (Aluminum winding can also be provided upon special
request). The high Voltage winding is wound directly on the Low
Voltage winding, with insulating paper and cooling duct, between
the two windings. Most modern techniques are used to provide
adequate short circuit strength.

Windings
TAP CHANGER
Tappings are provided on the HV windings (number and step according
to client requirements) with standard values of ±2.5% & ±5%. The step
change from one tapping to another is done by operating an offload tap
changer. Padlock for tap changer handle can be provided.
VOLTAGE SELECTOR
For dual primary voltages (e.g. 13.8 - 11, 11- 6.6 KV), the switching
from one primary voltage to the other is done by a voltage selector.

OIL TYPE
Transformers are supplied filled with mineral oil according to
IEC 60296 - Class I. In addition Silicon or Midel oil can be provided
on request.

TESTING
On each manufactured transformer the following routine tests will be conducted, in accordance to IEC 60076 prior
to final inspection and dispatch to customer.
ROUTINE TESTING:Measurement of the turns ratio and phase displacement.
Measurement of Insulation resistance.
Measurement of winding resistance.
Separate source voltage withstand test.
Induced over voltage withstand test.
Measurement of no load loss and magnetizing current.
Measurement of short circuit impedance and Load loss.
Dielectric strength test of Insulating oil.
Following type tests and special tests can be performed, as per the design/customer request, according to the
related IEC standards.
Type Tests:Temperature Rise Test. (Internal).
Lightning Impulse Test (King Saud University – KSA or International Lab.)
Utec transformers have been subjected to special test performed by KEMA-Netherland and King
Saud University-KSA.
Special Tests:Sound Level Test. (Internal + External)
Short Circuit Withstand Test. (International Laboratories)

Painting system
Transformers are coated with heavy duty specialized alkyd system having proven track record
under gulf atmospheric services. Our standard painting system is applied through flooding
process to ensure uniform application including hard to reach area.
Also Epoxy poly urethane system can be applied as primer coat of Epoxy zinc phosphate and top
coat of aliphatic polyurethane Enamel by air spray gun to cover the need of highly corrosive areas
in accordance of BS EN ISO 12944.
