A smooth beam is hard to find
Incandescent reflector lamps, especially the quartz-halogen PAR-20, PAR-30
and PAR-38’s, are far from perfect light sources. Just aim one on a blank wall.
You might see squiggly shadows in the center of the beam caused by the lamp’s
filament, or ‘sprinkles’ of shadow around the perimeter of the beam caused by
the thick edge of the lamp’s lens.
Beam smoothers clean up this mess. Clear disks of glass finished with stipples (tiny beads of glass that gently
diffuse light), beam smoothers make imperfect light sources suitable for the most careful display lighting. Available in four sizes for use in both our recessed fixtures and track fixtures.
When SP and FL aren’t enough
Sometimes the distributions offered in a lamp or LED luminaire catalog just won’t do the job. You may want to
widen a stock distribution, or to stretch a beam in both directions to cover an expanse of wall.
Spread lenses are the tools you need. . . and Edison Price Lighting is the industry leader in
spread lenses for reflector lamps. Three lenses – 30°, 55° and 70° – extend
a lamp’s beam along one axis, allowing you to highlight wider areas
from a single fixture. There’s no need to settle for a circle of light
in the center of a retail display case when you can stretch that
light into a rectangular pattern with a spread lens. If a wall is
the target, use our unique 40° x 70° lens to spread a beam in
two directions for a floor-to-ceiling wash of light.
In addition to refracting light at reliable angles, our spread lenses are
stippled, just like beam smoothers, to diffuse away the hot spots and
sprinkles inherent in many incandescent reflector lamps. And, if two roles
aren’t enough for one piece of glass, we offer spread lenses in the two
colors most often employed in architectural lighting – Daylight
Blue and Surprise Pink – on special order.
Spread lenses are available in five sizes for use in our
recessed downlights, accent
lights and track fixtures, both
those powered by integral
LED engines and those
designed for quartz halogen
or metal halide lamps.
Double your lamp options
It’s possible to find a lamp or LED luminaire with just the right color and distribution
but too much light. Screens reduce light output without affecting color or distribution.
Screens are available in four sizes for use in our recessed downlights, accent lights and track
fixtures, both those powered by integral LED engines and those designed for quartz halogen or
metal halide lamps.
What’s so special about color filters?
Color filters require careful design. Consider the problem of heat
breakage. Deeply saturated colors, like our amber, blue, green and
red absorb a lot of heat. Only specially tempered glass permits these
deep colors to be used with lamps as hot as 250 watts.
The imperfect beams projected by many light sources cannot be cured
with color alone. To clean up spots and sprinkles, our color filters are
stippled just like our beam smoothers.
Then there are two special, subtle colors. Daylight Blue cools
down incandescent lamps and leaves their light compatible
with daylight – developed for museums, but just as
useful in daylit commercial or residential spaces. And
Surprise Pink – an uncanny color that makes people
look radiantly healthy – a great addition to restaurants,
clubs and hotels.
Color filters are available in six sizes for use in our recessed downlights, accent lights and track fixtures, both
those powered by integral LED engines and those designed for
quartz halogen
For art’s sake
All incandescent lamps emit enough ultraviolet (UV) radiation to fade textiles, manuscripts, watercol- ors and
other works of art over time. Designers of retail spaces, museums and residences need a way to stop UV without
sacrificing the color or quantity of light.
UV filters sound simple: glass disks coated with a film that blocks UV. But consider the details. We use
borosilicate glass which lets more usable light through than plastic. The UV blocker stops 99% of all
of the UV while maintaining a color rendering index of 95%. And we make UV filters in six sizes
for use in many of our recessed fixtures and track fixtures.
