As the New Orleans Pelicans begin their first year under the team’s new identity, the organization will focus on two key initiatives critical to the future
success and prosperity of the Gulf South region: the health and sustainability of our coastal wetlands and the health and fitness of our region’s children.
In conjunction with our community and corporate partners, the Pelicans are developing outreach programs that will make this message known and
positively impact and inspire the lives of individuals in our community.
The health of the coastal wetlands is vital to growth and success of the state and region. The Louisiana wetlands provide 30% of the seafood catch in the
contiguous U.S. Our wetlands habitat is also home to a wide variety and number of wildlife and plants.

Over 80% of wetland loss in the United States occurs in Louisiana – the equivalent of 12 basketball courts is lost every 30 minutes. The Gulf Coast has lost
more than 55% of the wetlands that were here when the first Europeans arrived in the 15th century – a loss of more than 100 million acres.
The Pelicans organization is an advocate for the health and wellness of children in the Gulf South. With the ongoing goal of helping kids find the excitement
in being active, the Pelicans launched their Junior Training Camp program. Junior training camps will engage participants in activities focused on creating
a fun and memorable basketball experience, while also being active and healthy.
