FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Marijane Funess 212.367.9746 New York Chinese Cultural Center Recognizes McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union Treasurer and Director Sue Young Distinguished Board member to be honored for business and community accomplishments EAST WINDSOR, N.J. – Sue Young, McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union’s (MHFCU) Board Treasurer and Director, will be honored at the New York Chinese Cultural Center’s (NYCCC) Spring Gala on Friday, April 26, 2013 for her contributions to the Asian American business community. The award, to be given by the NYCCC and its Board of Directors, recognizes outstanding Asian-Americans in business. The organization is also known for its support and appreciation of Chinese culture, dance, and the arts. Ms. Young was selected in part because of her work with The McGraw-Hill Companies’ Employee Resource Group, Asian Professionals for Excellence (APEX), as well as the “Taste of Culture” program she created. “I’m honored to receive this award from an organization that has been such a satisfying part of my life over many years,” said Ms. Young. Ms. Young also looks at the award as an opportunity to reflect on advice she has taken and now offers to young employees starting their careers: “Whether at work or in your personal life, make your community as small or large as you want, but give back.” She also recommended that the younger generation take advantage of financial literacy programs. “Whether you’re building a career, a house, or a nest egg for retirement, you need to understand finance.” “Sue’s work in the community, the company, and the financial services industry is incomparable,” noted MHFCU President/CEO Shawn Gilfedder, who added, “Sue is an accomplished leader and trailblazer and we are proud to have her on our Board.” Ms. Young, a Flushing, Queens resident, helped found McGraw-Hill’s APEX and has served as the grassroots organization’s President until her departure from McGraw-Hill in September, 2012. The McGraw-Hill internal organization APEX supports all Asians and Friends of Asians, and currently has 400 national members. APEX is an employee-focused group, as it fosters leadership, develops and enhances talent, and strives for community outreach. Ms. Young has also chaired the organization’s outreach committee and built the current four-year alliance with the NYCCC. In addition, Ms. Young has created a scholarship fund, the Jacquelynn Young Inspiration Scholarship, which provides annual grants to local high school seniors to help further their education.
