Job Description Post: Teaching, Learning and Assessment Standards Observers Responsible to: Assistant Principal Quality Salary: £33,036pa Annual Leave: 40 days per annum pro rata The post will enable the College to sustain a culture of continuous Improvement in teaching learning and assessment. This post holder will be part of a cross college team who undertakes lesson observations and ensures standardisation to common inspection framework guidelines. The post holder will work within the College Quality Unit and be managed by the Assistant Principal. The post holder will also work with Assistant Principal, Curriculum, Heads of Department and the staff development unit to ensure compliance with all College systems. Job Purpose o To support a culture where all lessons are good or outstanding. o To maintain the highest educational standards, high success rates and achievements rates by giving feedback on current practice o To be the point of contact for external bodies for quality and compliance issues o To support the self-assessment process and the organisation of validation panels. o To support the Quality Assurance Systems which enable staff, teams and managers to assess their own performance and improve the experience of o learners. o To support managers and course teams in the implementation of compliance with College Quality Assurance Processes. o To prepare reports as required for managers, directors and the governing body. o To be a member of the audit and observation team conducting observations of teaching, learning and assessment and audits of curriculum and support departments. Key Accountabilities The post-holder will be expected to:o Undertake lesson observations and learning walks cross college. o Record lesson observation outcomes identifying strengths and areas for improvement. o Report on the quality and effectiveness of target setting and the monitoring of learner progress o Monitor the impact on teaching, learning and assessment practice of staff development activity implemented to address areas for improvement and cascading best practice. o Report on the quality of assessment practices including feedback to learners. o Monitor and report on the impact on learner’s progress and career aims of teaching and learning practices to develop English, mathematical and functional skills. o Agree annually, lesson observation strategy, including any special projects to develop high quality provision o Assist on the formulation and implementation of quality improvement strategies. o Support the staff development team to facilitate training events and drive up the quality of teaching, learning and assessment. Management of Human Resources o Liaise with the Professional Development team, Assistant Principal’s and Heads of Department in identifying staff development and training needs to promote continuous professional development. And raise standards. . Quality Assurance o Work with the Assistant Principal Quality to promote excellence in teaching and learning throughout the Curriculum. o Work with the Assistant Principals Curriculum and teams in order to maximise success rates, retention and achievement. o Contribute to performance management within teaching, learning and assessment. o Ensure that the College’s Internal Verification and assessment policies and procedures are adhered to. Planning, Marketing and Development o Actively contribute towards the compilation of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) in conjunction with the Assistant Principal Quality o Assist the Assistant Principal Quality in the preparation of Business Plans with annual operating statements for the work of the Quality Unit. o Assist in the marketing and promotion of Curriculum Provision to all stakeholders through school based events, open evenings and taster days Management of Financial Resources and Budgets o To act in accordance with the College Financial Regulations and Internal Control mechanisms at all levels. Development and Review o Contribute to the College strategic plan and annual operating statement.. General duties o Any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post. o As a member of the management team of the College, undertake morning and lunchtime behaviour management duties as required.
