Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: define
requirements for assisting a person to learn to use a computer
application; and conduct, and evaluate a session to assist a
person to learn to use a computer application. The
performance of all outcomes is to a standard that is expected in
a professional environment.

assuming a person has the prior knowledge and skills to apply
the principles of training for computer applications.
Explanatory notes
1
The term computer application refers to software operated by end-users rather than
the computer system itself, e.g. wordprocessing.

Performance of all outcomes is to be carried out in accordance with organisation
standards and procedures, unless otherwise stated. Organisation standards and
procedures may cover: quality assurance, documentation, security, communication,
health and safety, and personal behaviour. An example of the standards expected is
the standards found in ISO 9000 Certified Organisations.

Performance of all outcomes is to be completed within the normal range of time that
would be expected in a professional environment, e.g. in a commercial or
government organisation.

Performance of all outcomes is to be within the normal range of cost, or cost
estimate, that would be expected in a commercial environment.
5
Performance of all outcomes complies with the laws of New Zealand, especially with
regard to copyright, privacy, health and safety, and consumer rights.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Define requirements for assisting a person to learn to use a computer application.
Evidence requirements
1.1
A review of person’s learning objectives identifies the scope and purpose of the
assistance.
1.2
A review of learning objectives identifies and explains the feasibility of the
objectives.
1.3
An analysis of current abilities identifies generic and application specific skill
levels with respect to the scope of the assistance.
1.4
A proposal for assistance meets the learning objectives and falls within the
identified scope.
1.5
A review procedure is adopted which ensures the final outcome meets the
person’s requirements.
Outcome 2
Conduct a session to assist a person to learn to use a computer application.
Evidence requirements
2.1
The outline of learning objectives for each part of the session allows the person
to identify the purpose of each part.
2.2
This unit standard is
Facilitating practice of a process allows the person to experience how a process
is applied to achieve an outcome.

The explanation and demonstration of a process allows the person to see how
the process is applied to achieve an outcome.
2.4
Facilitating practice of a process ensures the person has confidence in their
ability to apply a process to achieve an outcome.
2.5
If the session does not match the person’s ability, the session is modified to
match their ability.
2.6
If the session does not maintain the person’s motivation, the session is modified
to maintain their motivation.

Evaluate a session to assist an individual to learn to use a computer application.

Evidence requirements
3.1
The evaluation of the person’s satisfaction with the session allows
improvements to be made in future sessions.
3.2
The evaluation of the person’s needs with respect to the scope of the session
outlines a process for meeting further learning needs.
3.3
The assessment of the person’s performance during the session allows a report
of their performance to be produced.
3.4
A teacher evaluation of the session allows improvements to be made in future
sessions.
