Skills & Learning Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole • Adult learning service covering the whole county of Dorset • In 2013 – 14 we worked with over 8000 learners • We also work in partnership with a large number of organisations across the county including; the local authorities of Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole, Job Centre Plus, Abilities, BCHA, Equilibrium, EDAS, SWRAC, Prince’s Trust, Children's Centres and Libraries. Subjects include; • • • • • • • • • Languages – French, Spanish, German, Italian Family History Art and craft – Painting, Sewing Machine skills ICT Cookery – Cake Decorating, Cook Thai, Cook Indian Creative Technology – Web Design, Photoshop Agewell courses – for isolated over 60’s Learnwell courses – for learners with learning disabilities Living well – health & wellbeing courses Employability Plus – Job Clubs & ICT drop in sessions Family Learning - in collaboration with schools and children’s centres Management of Project and Partnership Fund activity We expect our teaching and learning staff to: • Deliver outstanding and innovative teaching and learning • Ensure the safe welfare of our learners • Be available to teach every session as per contract • Be flexible and give appropriate time to planning, preparation and assessing outside class time • Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans • Assess learners’ progress and record achievement (RARPA) • Give information and advice We expect our teaching and learning staff to; • • • • • • • • • Undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Be available to teach or assess daytimes and evenings Have good group management skills Have excellent organisation and time management skills Use Interactive Learning Technology (ILT) to enhance learning Be self sufficient Embed English, maths and employability skills in all courses Attend network meetings Deliver qualifications that exceed awarding organisation quality standards • Work with colleagues to improve standards • Manage the classroom activity of learning support staff and volunteers What we offer in return • Payment • Job Satisfaction – unlocking learners’ potential • Excellent CPD opportunities • Support • Mentoring • Membership of Teachers’ Pension Scheme • Project delivery opportunities Things you need to know • Course viability is subject to minimum numbers of enrolments • Viability decisions are made a week before the course starts • We prefer tutors to commit to delivery of multiple courses • We are not able to offer fixed hour contracts Qualifications • Tutors = minimum of the Education & Training Award/PTLLS qualification (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) or equivalent • Assessors = an assessor award (Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational achievement, A1 or D32/D33) • All tutors/assessors = a vocational/subject specific qualification at a minimum of Level 3 • All tutors/assessors = Level 2 qualifications in English & maths • Tutors will need to be prepared to work towards the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (formerly DTLLS) if teaching qualification courses in FL&A or VPD • If you don’t have PTLLS we won’t be able to consider you for any teaching vacancies but can advise you how to get started as Skills & Learning will be offering the Level 3 Education & Training Award from Sept.
