This is a full- time, 12 month pay plan, temporary three year joint position in the Department of Forestry and Wildland Resources (FWR), College of Natural Resources and Sciences (CNRS), and Office of Enrollment Management with an anticipated starting date of August 24, 2015. Position Summary: Hispanic Serving Institute Grant Program Manager assists Forestry and Wildland Resources faculty with the recruitment and retention of Hispanic students and management of an on-going grant program. The CNRS Recruiter serves as the official recruitment officer for the College of Natural Resources and Sciences and liaisons with the University's Admissions Office and Enrollment Management. The position reports to both the FWR and the Admissions office. Duties: The HSI Program Manager is responsible for working with Bakersfield and Reedley College to recruit qualified students into the program and to promote retention through organization of peer mentorships, summer internships, and weekend retreats. Additional duties include assistance with report writing and program evaluation. The recruiter is responsible for recruiting prospective students to Humboldt State University. S/he recruits students through presentations at high schools, community colleges, Native American Indian Education Centers, military installations, and college fairs. A portion of the recruiting efforts are directed specifically towards prospective students interested in forestry. The CNRS Recruiter also assists the Admissions Office and Enrollment Management with recruitment programs such as Fall Admissions Day and Spring Preview and meets with prospective students during campus visits. Additional duties include coordination of on-campus conferences for community colleges that offer associate degrees in natural resources and promotion of course articulation agreements and transfer programs from the community colleges to HSU. Minimum Qualifications: Education & Experience: Education equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the natural resources (Fisheries, Forestry, Range, Wildlife, or other related fields) and two years of professional experience in a student services program or related field. A Master’s degree may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The FWR HSI program manager/CNRS Recruiter must have excellent writing and oral communication skills, demonstrate professional demeanor, and possess strong organizational skills; ability to explain, interpret and apply a wide variety of rules and regulations related to admission and financial aid information is essential; ability to quickly develop knowledge of California State University System policies and procedures related to admissions and enrollment management; demonstrated sensitivity to cross-cultural perspectives and experience working with staff and students of color, underrepresented, and/or students with disabilities; ability to interact in a caring manner with potential students, parents, high school and community college staff on a one-on-one basis and in a group settings. The successful candidate must have the ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions, and programs of Humboldt State University. An ability to speak Spanish is desirable. The successful applicant must be “customer service” oriented and willing to work evenings and weekends. This position requires a significant amount of time spent traveling to other geographical locations; applicants must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record. Successful applicants must also qualify for a US Bank Corporate Travel credit card. Successful applicants must be physically fit and able to effectively transport to and set-up marketing/presentation materials (weighing up to 40 lbs.) required at recruitment activity sites and actively participate in recruitment and promotional events up to four hours in length.
