Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) Online Book Club NOVEMBER 1-29, 2016 ETFO has an FNMI Online Book Club available for members. This initiative provides members a chance to come together to build on their knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal peoples’ diverse cultural perspectives through the use of children’s books, adult literature and culturally relevant online resources. Members engaged in this welcoming online learning environment will be able to infuse their learning into their classroom practice. The book club is structured as four weekly online sessions, approximately two hours in length and feature small group sizes. Participants are expected to log in for an hour or two each week, read postings and engage in online threaded discussions, share ideas and make professional connections to the content. Registration is limited to 20 participants and is on a firstcome, first-served basis. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: October 14, 2016 REGISTRATION - FNMI ONLINE BOOK CLUBS Perspectives and the Truth and Reconciliation November 1-29, 2016 (Registration Deadline: October 14) This book club is for all members who are interested in learning about the diversity of Aboriginal peoples, perspectives, the residential school system and reconciliation. In session one and two, members will have an opportunity to explore the concepts of the role that cultural values play on shaping an individual. In session three and four, members will examine the impacts of the residential school system and explore concepts of reconciliation and what that looks like for educators. Children’s and adult literature as well as relevant online resources are included in this welcoming online learning environment that is aimed to engage members in critical thinking, rich dialogue and personal reflection and professional connection.
