BICON Compunds & Resins Plastic Weatherproof Sealing Compound Description > Prevents ingress of moisture > Non Hardening > Protects exposed terminals against corrosion > Easily applied to intricate contours > Good adhesion to metal, plastic, wood, rubber, PVC, etc. > Suitable for temperatures between -20˚C and +80˚C > Vibration resistant > Long shelf life when stored in original packaging (under normal conditions) > Harmless to hands R391 / R392 BICON R391 compound is a non-hardening plastic weatherproof sealant which can be applied to protect electrical connections from moisture and corrosive vapours. This compound has the consistency of a putty and also has good insulation properties, being rated at 1000V. It may be moulded around terminals and connections or it can be used as a mechanical seal for any form of enclosure. The compound, whilst not sticky, is soft enough to be readily moulded around intricate contours or pressed into fine cavities, and it has the ability both to resist the dislodging effects of vibration and prevent moisture creepage along an interface. The compound does not harden on exposure to air or sunlight, it does not shrink, crack or peel and although sunlight may cause a slight skin hardening, this does not affect the mass and can be removed by working in the hand. Hence, it is ideal for use in maintenance purposes where cables may have to be removed or replaced at regular intervals. The compound material does not liberate toxic fumes even if overheated and is harmless to the hands. It resists water permeation and is unaffected by dilute acids and alkalis in liquid or vapour form, and many other chemicals. It has no deleterious effects on metals, plastic, natural or synthetic rubber, PVC or other cable materials. However it is not resistant to oils, aromatics or aliphatic hydro carbons. For material safety data sheet (see page two of this document) Applications > The prevention of electrical leakage on circuits due to dampness and the protection of electrical contacts against corrosion. > The sealing of irregular openings, cable entries, screw threads and covers of electrical equipment. Make the right connection... > It is useful as a filler for junction boxes and can also be used for many non electrical applications whenever a reliable non-hardening moisture or water seal is required.
