The Forts are embellished with extensive fortifications, ramparts, bastions, watchtowers and entrances located at strategic points and houses fourteen temples. Chandravalli,, in the north easterlyy axis of the Chitradurga g hill,, is an ancient archaeological site. Sirigere is well known for the Veershaiva Mutt of Taralabalu Jagadguru located northwest of Chitradurga. Bruhanmutt also known as Sri. Murugarajendra g j Matt,, located about three kms from Chitradurga,was built in honour of an eminent guru of the Veershaiva . Aadumalleshwara is a Shiva Cave temple built by Aadooru Mallapa located 5 kms. from Chitradurga. An interesting feature is a perennial stream that flows through Nandi’s mouth. Thamatekallu located 8 kms from Chitradurga has the oldest hero stone in Karnataka. Ancient rock cut inscriptions are also found here.
