MIM Multipurpose Interface Module C ubic’s Multipurpose Interface Module (MIM) is a programmable interface and message translator for use in controlling and connecting multiple rugged devices. While many applications require at most a few dozen input and output signals to be brought out to rugged connectors, the MIM can manage up to 300 simultaneous signals. The MIM design allows it to have new capabilities added and existing ones changed with minimal changes to the MIM hardware and software configuration. The MIM is a versatile message and protocol translator. It uses a large-scale, field-programmable gate array and a general-purpose microprocessor to do required translations and conversions. In the example shown, the MIM is converting Ethernet control messages to RS-422 relay drivers, and TTL signals for device control. It has a built-in temperature sensor and GPS receiver that can be accessed by connected devices. Interfaces Available..................................
