Chinese Government Scholarship Program
1. University Introduction:
As one of the universities with the longest history and global reputation in China, Xi’an
Jiaotong University is among the first universities to enter China’s "211 Project" and"985
Project". After 120 years of relentless effort, Xi’an Jiaotong University is now a leading
international comprehensive research university with scientific focus, composing of 10
branches of learning, namely: science, engineering, medicine, economics, management,
literature, law, philosophy, education and art.
Xi’an Jiaotong University is located in Xi’an, the capital of 13 dynasties in Chinese
history with the longest history and the greatest influence. Xi’an is also the starting point of
the Silk Road, the cradle of Chinese civilization, as well as one of the World’s Top Four
Ancient Capitals. Today, being the hometown of current Chinese President Xi Jinping,
Xi’an is not only the heart of western China, but also a preferred destination for
international tourists, including over 200 of the world’s top leaders such as Elizabeth II,
George Bush, Vladimir Putin, etc.
As one of the first universities to receive Chinese Government Scholarship students,
Xi’an Jiaotong University is now rapidly developing in international education. In 2013,
XJTU was listed by the Ministry of Education of China as the Demonstration Base for
International Education. Today, there are over 2,000 international students studying at
XJTU from 86 countries including America, Pakistan, France, Italy, Turkey, Iran,
Kazakhstan, India, Thailand, Korea, etc. of which 300 are sponsored by the Chinese
Government Scholarship.
2. Scholarship Coverage：
※Exempt from tuition fee;
※Free on-campus dormitory accommodation;
※Monthly living allowance:
Doctoral degree students: CNY 3,500 yuan/month
Master's degree students: CNY 3,000 yuan/month;
※Medical Insurance

6. Eligibility:
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with valid passports and in good health;
Applicants must have advanced academical performance;
Applicants for Master's degree must have a Bachelor's degree and be under 35 years of
age;
Applicants for Doctoral degree must have a Master's degree and be under 40 years of
age;
Applicants may not be in receipt of any other types of scholarship.
7. Application Materials:
Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English);
Photocopy of the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners : should be completed in
English.The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Physical
Examination Record for Foreigners. The forms with incomplete records or without the
signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed
photograph of the applicant are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take
physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months;
Notarized highest diploma (photocopy),student expecting to graduate should provide
an official letter declaring expected graduation date;
Academic transcripts;
Two letters of recommendation: in Chinese or English from professors or associate
professors;
A Study Plan or Research Proposal: in English or Chinese, with a minimum of 800
words for Master degree and 1500 word for Doctoral degree;
Notarized Copies of Research Achievements: in English or Chinese;
Certificate of English Proficiency Level: unnecessary for English native speakers;
Photocopy of Valid Passport;
Application fee: RMB800 (non-refundable).

required documents will be rejected;
Documents in other languages must be accompanied by a notarized translation in
Chinese or English;
In addition to the above materials, schools have the right to require the applicant to
provide other necessary application materials.
