ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING Technologies used to produce small batches of components, including complex objects, in a very short timeframe. To be used for drastic reductions in TIME TO MARKET SLA - Stereolithography The material is a laser beam-hardened resin • Standard • High resistance (gray) • Transparent • Similar characteristics to Ceramics (high thermal performance 180 to 200°C, can be used with hydrocarbons) SLS - Polystyrene Used to create wax masters for casting. SLS - Sintering of powders The basic material is a PA (nylon) powder. To create the object, the powders are sintered by a laser beam, one section at a time. The dimensional tolerance is normally 1-2/10 mm for objects up to 100 mm size. The PA powders can be used together with the following additives: - - Glass fiber loads to improve resistance to wear and tear and heat Metallic loads (aluminium) to increase machinability for modifications or adaptations. The material retains its isolating capacity and acquires good heat conduction characteristics. Additional treatments: It is possible to carry out impregnations in order to close the cavities in the sintered resin and subject it to a vacuum or pressures of up to 7 bar. Painting, chrome and aluminium plating. The wire is melted by a mobile nozzle that generates the object section by section. The prototypes may be coloured as requested (RAL). Dimensional accuracy varies depending on the size of the object. On average, it is possible to achieve an accuracy of +/- 0.1 mm. Vacuum Casting By using a “Master” prototype in SLA or SLS (depending on the size of the object) it is possible to create the negative in a vacuum casting Silicone resin mold. The resulting silicone mold is used to vacuum create castings using resins that simulate the characteristics of most widely available thermoplastics Resins for use at temperatures up to 180°C or with glass fiber loads. It is possible to reproduce the full range of RAL colours and degrees of transparency. Other resins can be used to produce coloured and transparent soft (rubberlike) parts with hardness between 40 and 70 Shore. POLYJET polymer jet 3D printing This material is a UV-solidified polymer resin. In the same way as stereolithography, it can be used to create patterns with a high degree of dimensional accuracy in a very short timeframe. Both rigid and soft materials are available for testing and product checks.
