Innovating Orphan Care through the Local Church
This Christmas season,
join Forgotten Voices in affirming
the faith of the faithful.
YOUR GIFT THIS
CHRISTMAS
REFLECTS THE
REDEMPTION
STORY
The Christmas story centers on a single child. But others
had important roles to play - a poor carpenter, a young
Jewish girl, outcast shepherds, wise men from a far-off
land. All may have found it easier to say “no”. Yet they were
faithful, and said yes to their part in THE redemption story.
This Christmas, and all year, another cast of characters is
faithfully saying yes - to children orphaned by AIDS in southern
Africa. They are brave grandparents, compassionate neighbors,
church volunteers, local pastors. They invite you to be part of this
story of innovating orphan care through the local church.
Though perhaps easier to say “no”...will you say “yes”?
Affirm the faith of the faithful this Christmas with a gift to Forgotten
Voices. Then follow our Christmas blog series to learn more about the
impact of your gifts at www.forgottenvoices.org/blog.
A little bit goes a long way. Gifts of any size combined with others, will add
up to do great things for children in impoverished areas who need our help.

Meet Matildah
When one Zambian church partner launched their orphan care ministry,
they quickly reached out to Matildah. Born HIV+ and orphaned at a
very young age, she was being raised by a grandmother and often in
the hospital. As they developed a custom plan for her care, the church
secured antiretroviral medications, clothing and food for Matildah.
Her school fees were paid, ensuring a promising future with education.
While grateful to see these vital needs being met, caregivers recognized
that she still struggled to interact with others and to be happy. When
the church began providing grief counseling to children, the pieces
fell into place.
Matildah received counseling and the church recognized the depth of
the grief in her life. A committed home-based care team ensured that she
was given opportunities to work through her loss and grief. Thanks to this
psycho social support, as well as medication, food and education, today
Matildah is a happier and healthier girl, both physically and mentally. She
has goals for the future - being a nurse in a “white uniform.“
Now Matildah dreams of
caring for others...
because someone
cared for her.
I wish everyone
had a heart for the
world, not just for
themselves.

Meet the Van Eman Family
For Sam and Julie, there are many reasons to support
Forgotten Voices. But a big one, says Julie, is the impact
it has on their daughters. “Much of why we’ve invested
in Forgotten Voices is because we want our girls to
have generous hearts, to think of the cares of others
first.” Emma, 12, and Alice, 9, have inspired their parents
with creative and personal ways to “help kids in need
in Africa”. From an ice cream party fundraiser, to selling
artwork, to doing school projects about Zimbabwe, these
girls are learning about and impacting the world through
supporting Forgotten Voices.
Sam, Julie, Emma & Alice invite you to join them in giving to Forgotten Voices this
Christmas. Below are 3 key elements of our orphan care model that make us a wise
and effective investment.
Custom Plans
We equip carefully selected
local pastors with tools to create
a custom plan that meets their
community’s unique orphan
care needs.
Quiet Investments
We provide an investment not
exceeding what each community
could eventually raise itself to
fund orphan care. A child’s ongoing relationship is with the local
church, not us.
Sustainable Income
With local churches and
caregivers, we identify and
evaluate income generation
plans. We then provide an
initial investment to launch their
ideas for funding orphan care
independent of outside aid.
Forgotten Voices partners differently to help all of us
reach more children quickly and more effectively.
To innovate orphan care through the local church,
we partner with...
Local Seminaries
Every dollar for orphan care is precious. Why not partner
with the best? Through local seminaries, we vet leaders
ready to manage custom orphan care plans effectively.
Local Churches
Local churches are the best positioned to see
and respond to the needs of their neighbors. Their
knowledge and experience are invaluable.
Local Caregivers
Volunteer caregivers are daily caring for
children served through our network of
churches. We join them, not replace
them, in this efficient and sustainable
orphan care model.
