TECHNOLOGY/MACHINERY 34 www.IndianaPrairieFarmer.com - October 2009 One way to distribute anhydrous equally By TOM J. BECHMAN M AYBE you’ve heard of the Equaply system for distributing anhydrous ammonia evenly to each row unit on the applicator. Technically, it’s been around for a short time. But since it’s just finding its way onto farms in the Midwest, it may be new to you. Either way, it’s a tool that allows you to deliver the same amount of nitrogen to each row unit on the an- hydrous applicator. And you can do that even in cool fall or spring weather. Made by aNH3 Co., the heart of the system is called the Liquimatic. The patented device replaces typical heat exchangers and keeps anhydrous ammonia below its boiling point and in liquid form until it’s divided among injectors. It works with Hiniker and Raven controllers, but it also works well with GPS controllers from Trimble, AgLeader, Deere and others, company representatives report. Why you want equal distribution may seem like a no-brainer, but some question it. The obvious reason: You can cut ammonia costs up to 10%, because you no longer have to compensate for rows that won’t get as much unless you bump the rate. And not applying more ammonia than necessary is a plus for hypoxia issues. ■ Learn more about Equaply by calling 217-725-5695, 217-947-2420 or 402-366-7533. Or e-mail jbenterprises@diodecom.net.
