Harry D. Powell, Jr., Commissioner
Harry D. Powell, Jr. has served on the Board of Commissioners of the
Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority on two separate occasions. Mr.
Powell was first appointed in August 1991 and served through September 1993.
He was later re-appointed to the Board in March 2000, and elected Vice Chairman
in August 2002. He served in this capacity until 2005. Mr. Powell retired in 1988
after serving 35 years with the U.S. Government. Since 1993, he has served in
Security at the Norfolk, VA Naval ECH. To help serve the citizens of his
community, Mr. Powell founded the Sunrise Hills Civic League, and has served as
President of that organization since 1970. Mr. Powell is also an active member of
his church, where he presently serves as a Sunday-school teacher, a member of the
men’s chorus and as a deacon.
