Dear Parents, Welcome to 1st grade! My name is Mrs. Christina W. Powell and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I will start by telling you a little bit about myself. My husband and I moved to Virginia over five years ago and our children are entering middle school and 4th grade. This is my 6th year at Catoctin, but my 15th year teaching. I graduated from Trinity University in Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and my Master of Science degree in Special Education is from Johns Hopkins University. I have worked with students in every grade from head start through 8th grade. First grade is a very important year, as your child will learn to enjoy reading more and add and subtract in math. S/he will have homework every night to reinforce what we learn during the school day. As a teacher I expect every child to follow our class motto, “Try your best, do your best, and be your best.” Together we can make this a very successful year! I look forward to meeting you at Back-to-School night on Thursday, August 27th at 6:00PM. I will get the chance to meet your child when they come with you to their own open house on Friday, August 28th from 10:00-11:30AM. Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer and remember to read with your child! Fondly, Mrs. Christina W. Powell Cpowell3@lcps.org
