Highway: I-90 near Brandon
Location: I-90 at MRM 404 and at the Brandon Exit
Description of Work: Construct Crossovers
Work in Progress: Loiseau Construction, Inc. has started constructing median crossovers on I90 near Brandon. They are installing pipe culverts. The recent rain has caused some delay.
They are starting to haul the granular material into the work sites. They plan to continue hauling
the granular material the week of September 12th . The passing lane through the work zone will
be closed at times to allow trucks to enter and exit the work site. BX Civil & Construction will
work on placing concrete around the trench drain at the center of the crossovers. Traffic
Solutions Inc. will set up lane closures as needed.
Traffic Affects: The passing lane through the work zone will be closed when the work is directly
adjacent to the lane. However, the contractor is required to maintain 2 lanes of traffic on I-90
westbound from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM for the morning peak hour traffic and 2 lanes of traffic for I90 eastbound from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM for the evening peak hour traffic. Drivers should be alert
to slower moving traffic through the work zones and trucks entering and exiting.

Highway: I-229 in Sioux Falls
Location: I-229 at MRM 7 at the Rice Street Exit
Description of Work: Approach Slabs and Bridge Deck Polymer Chip Seal
Work in Progress: Traffic Solutions Inc. has started setting up the traffic control for the project;
they intend to have all the traffic control in place the week of September 12th.
Interstate Improvement, Inc. plans to start work on replacing the bridge approach slabs for the
bridges over Rice Street on I-229 the week of September 19. They will have lane closures for
northbound and for southbound I-229 traffic. They will be performing the bridge work on one half
of the bridge at a time.
Traffic Affects: The traffic will be shifted to the passing lane side of the roadway. There are
currently 3 lanes through this area and it will now be reduced to 2 lanes and there will be ramp
traffic in the right hand lane of those 2 lanes. The speed limit through the work zone will be
reduced to 45 MPH. Drivers should be alert to slower moving traffic through the work zones and
trucks entering and exiting.

Highway: I-90 near Hartford & I-29 near Sioux Falls & Harrisburg
Location: I-90 at MRM 379 to 401 and I-29 MRM 62 to 84
Description of Work: Pavement Repair
Work in Progress: Dakota Contracting Corporation has started repairing concrete pavement on
I-90. They are working in the eastbound lanes between Humboldt and Hartford. Northwest
Concrete Cutting has been sawing the concrete for removal. Dakota Contracting has been
removing the broken concrete. Seal Pros has been placing asphalt concrete in the repair sites.
Mudpumpers Mudjacking is working on repair sites to lift the concrete where there are dips in
the road. There are then 5 locations around Sioux Falls that they are working on. They intend to
work on northbound I-229 near Louise Avenue and near Western Avenue the week of
September 12th. Dakota Traffic Services has been setting up the traffic control signs for the
lane closures.
Traffic Affects: There will be lane closures through the work zone to allow the repairs to be
made. The lane closures will move as the work progresses.

South Dakota Highway 115
Location: South Dakota Highway 115 Dell Rapids Quarry Road to 248th Street
Description of Work: Grading, Curb and Gutter, Storm Sewer, Structure and PCC Surfacing
Grangaard Construction is working on Pier #4 cofferdam. They completed the footing for Pier #3
and are forming and tying steel for the Pier #3 wall. Loiseau Construction has begun grading
the NB Hwy 115 driving lane and shoulder.
Traffic Affects: A detour is in place from Third Street to Garfield Ave. to Centennial Drive. Two
lanes of traffic will be maintained on SD Hwy 115 from 248th Street to Centennial Drive. A detour
is in place from SD Hwy 115 to Minnehaha County 114 to Interstate 29 to SD Hwy 115.

South Dakota Highway 115
Location: South Dakota Highway 115 and 254th Street
Description of Work: Grading, Curb and Gutter, Storm Sewer, PCC Pavement and Asphalt
Concrete Surfacing
SD Hwy 34 and 471st Ave.
Contractor has completed sawing and sealing the concrete pavement of the westbound and
eastbound shoulders. Contractor has begun grading the shoulders for asphalt concrete
pavement.
Traffic Affects: Traffic will be maintained on SD Hwy 115. The shoulders will be closed to
accommodate this work.
This portion of the project is anticipated to be complete by late June. The overall project which
involves highway intersection work at eight locations is anticipated to be completed by October
28, 2016.

Highways: SD 17
Location: Through Lennox.
Description of Work: Grading, Widening, Asphalt Concrete Paving, Water Main, Sewer, Storm
Sewer, Roadway Lighting and Permanent Signing Improvements.
Remaining Work: Grading, Widening, Paving, Sewer and Storm Sewer, Roadway Lighting and
permanent signing.
Traffic Affects: Highway 17 is open from Boynton Ave to the north city limits. All of the
grading and storm sewer and Curb and Gutter in this stretch of road has been
completed. Traffic is being maintained on a gravel surface until the end of the project.
Highway 17 is closed from Second Ave to Boynton for a few weeks while the contractor finishes
work in this section of road.
On September 9th, the contractor will begin paving SD 17 from SD 44 to the railroad
tracks. Travelers are advised to avoid using this route if at all possible. Access to residents
along SD 17 will be maintained from the nearest crossroad to their residence. Be aware there
may be a half hour delay to cross the newly paved road directly in front of their driveway until
the fresh asphalt has been rolled and cooled.
Travelers using SD-17 from the north should be aware of the road closures, the gravel surface,
and construction vehicles entering the work zone.

Highway: SD Highway 11
Location: From SD Highway 42 to Corson
Description of Work: Concrete Pavement Repair
Upcoming Work: Concrete repairs will continue near the Highway 11 and Highway 42
intersection. Crews will also begin sealing joints throughout the project limits.
Traffic Affects: Motorists should expect delays through the construction area and stay alert for
workers, equipment, lane closures, lane shifts, and sudden slowing of traffic.

The anticipated completion date is September 16, 2016 and the overall completion date is

Highway: I-229/I-29 Interchange Sioux Falls
Location: Interstate 29 from north of Tea Exit 73 to north of 57th Street and about one mile of I229 from the I-29 interchange to just west of the Louise Avenue exit.
Description of Work: Grading, Concrete Surfacing, Bridge Replacements, Roadway Lighting,
& Permanent Signing
Work in Progress: During phase 3 of construction all concrete surfacing within the project
limits for the I-29 NB lanes and the I-229 inside lanes will be removed and replaced with
concrete pavement. The NB bridge on I-29 over I-229 will be replaced and the following ramp
sections will be reconstructed:
• I-229 SB to I-29 NB
• I-29 NB to I-229 NB
Anticipated Work September 12th to September 17th: Runge will continue grading/crushing
concrete on I-29 NB. SFC has finished substructure work on the NB structure and will set
girders. Action Electric will continue installing lighting items. T&R will continue to pave on I-29
NB. American Fencing will continue to install 6” chain link fence.
Traffic Affects: Currently NB traffic on I-29 is shifted to the east half of the new SB lanes. The
SB traffic is shifted to the west half of the new SB lanes. There are traffic control concrete
barriers separating the two-way traffic. The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph throughout
the I-29 portion of the project and 45 mph on the I-229 portion & where there is worker occupied
work zones posted. Lane widths on I-229 have been reduced down to 11 feet.

Highway: SD Highway 34
Location: SD34 – From N US81 Junction to Washington Avenue in Madison, SD
Description of Work: Grading, Storm Sewer, Water Main, Sanitary Sewer, Curb and Gutter,
Traffic Signals, Roadway Lighting and PCC Surfacing.
Completed Work: Traffic control for phase one has been installed. Traffic signals have been
removed at Washington Avenue and Egan Avenue. Trees and luminaire poles have been
removed on the north half of Hwy 34. Underground utility work between Egan and Harth
Avenue has been completed. Sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water main installation for
phase 1 is completed. Paving for phase 1 is completed.
Work in Progress: Storm sewer, water main and sanitary sewer is being installed between
Liberty Avenue and Highland Avenue. Contractor is installing sidewalk and ADA ramps
between Olive Avenue and Union Avenue. Contractor is paving the southwest quadrant of
Washington Avenue. Contractor has removed excess dirt and began undercut from
Washington Avenue to Egan Avenue.
Anticipated Work for September 12th to September 16th: Mainline storm sewer installation
between Chicago Avenue and Catherine Avenue will continue. Installation of drop inlets and
junction boxes from Egan Avenue to Josephine Avenue will continue. Undercut and grading
from Washington Avenue to Egan Avenue will be complete. Paving the eastbound lanes from
Washington Avenue to Egan Avenue will be completed.
Traffic Affects: The Highway 34 vehicular traffic has been closed in the west bound lanes for
the first phase of construction. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction in the
east bound lanes. Vehicular access will be maintained at Egan Avenue and Washington
Avenue. Pedestrian crossings will be maintained at Olive Avenue, Egan Avenue and
Washington Avenue.
