Oman Outings ~ Muttrah Souk & Corniche
Muscat is a walled city which sits in a small
bay, guarded by the twin forts of Mirani &
Jalali.
Muttrah, is the central trading port. Its main
attraction is the Souq Al Dhalam, or "Market
of Shades“. It’s labyrinth of alleyways lit by
lantern, unveils local antiques, gold, silver,
and traditional handicrafts, while the scent
of frankincense fills the air.
Seafood is a major contributor to the local
economy, and Muscat’s Fish Market is
where the fishermen converge daily to sell
their catch as they have been doing for
centuries.

Oman Outings ~ Wadis
A wadi is a dried up riverbed found in the
mountain valleys. Wadis come into their
own after heavy rains, when the rivers start
running again and the vegetation is
restored. However, some wadis have yearround running water, with deep, cool pools
in which it is quite safe to swim if the
currents are slow.
WADI AL SHAB means, "gorge between the
cliffs". Only a two hour drive from Muscat,
the wadi is entered via a small ferry and it
has cool pools of water all year round.

Oman Outings ~ Contrasting Topography
Blessed with contrasting topography,
Oman is the perfect destination for those
keen to explore. Climb a mountain and
surf a sand dune all in the same day.
Jebel Shams is the highest peak in the
Arabian Peninsula and often described as
Oman’s version of the Grand Canyon.
Watching the sun set at Jebel Shams is
one item that should definitely be added to
your list!

Nizwa, the largest city in the interior
province, was the capital of Oman in the 6th
and 7th centuries. Today it remains one of
the most popular tourist attractions with its
historical buildings and imposing fort built in
the mid 17th century.
It is famous for its bustling souq where
tourists can buy exquisite copper and silver
jewellery, as well as Omani Pottery for which
the souq is famous

Oman Outings ~ Diving & Dolphins
Oman’s marine life is diverse and plentiful,
due to their being no commercial fishing in
the Sultanate. The best months to explore
the underwater world is from April to July.
Five species of turtle frequent Omani
waters and four of these – Green,
Loggerhead, Olive Ridley and Hawksbill
nest on Oman’s beaches. Turtle watching is
now one of the most popular highlights to
visit Oman. In order to protect the
environment, special measures have been
taken to control the number of visitors.
Dolphins continuously migrate in the warm
waters of the Gulf of Oman, and dolphin
watching is a popular half day outing.
Oman’s Sea life and rugged picturesque
coastline make for a truly memorable day
out.
