Dear reader,
The success of a company depends heavily on its workforce.
This is the reason why many companies invest a huge amount
of money and time in training their employees. The companies
want to receive the best quality of training for their money,
which calls for a future-proof training infrastructure, efficient
training administration, up-to-date teaching methods, and, of
course, professional teachers with good technical and didactic
knowledge. All of these are offered by our Power Grids - Grid
Automation Learning Services, located in Baden, Switzerland.

The Power Grids – Grid Automation Learning Services Department comprises two learning centers belonging to the business
unit Grid Automation within the ABB Power Grids Division. The
Substation Automation and Protection learning center is specialized in systems and product training related to substation
automation and protection, while the Communication Networks
learning center offer training courses about the different ABB
products related to the Communication Networks products
portfolio. In addition, both learning centers offer technology
training related to their respective fields of business.
Every year we have the opportunity to welcome participants
from all over the world. Our main audience are taskforces from
utility companies and ABB employees in the field of power systems.
The two learning centers are part of the virtual organization of
ABB University Switzerland, where we share our vision that ABB
University Switzerland enhances the productivity of businesses
and individuals for our customers and employees by making
learning a valuable experience.
In our brochure you will find the course schedule for each learning center. You will find a detailed description of each course on
our website as well as the corresponding learning center learning path. The learning path helps you choose the most suitable
course that corresponds to your current needs.
In the following pages you will also find a description of each
learning center. For general information such as training concepts, course administration, or travel information, please read

Power Grids- Grid Automation
LC Substation Automation & Protection
Learning Center Substation Automation and Protection
In addition to our traditional training courses in the field of power
systems, IEC 61850-based substation automation systems,
RTUs, and protection, we also offer courses on the topics of
micro grid, smart grid, and cyber security for utilities. With these
courses we prepare the participants for these upcoming challenges in power grid technology. We offer a new course for
electrical traction system for railways.
In order to meet customer requirements as well as possible, in
addition to our scheduled courses we also offer tailored
courses. Please contact us for further information.
Our courses can be presented in our well-equipped training
center or at your own site.

Learning Center Communication Networks
We offer courses on products that are included in the ABB
Communication Networks products portfolio, such as the
FOX615 utility grade universal access and transport multiplexer
or the latest ETL600 R4 universal digital power-line carrier
equipment. Although our courses are lecture-based, the focus
is on practical exercises on the product itself. With our course
concept, each participant becomes familiar and confident with
the setup, operation and maintenance of the equipment.
In addition, we offer training in the technologies used by the
different products, such as SDH, Ethernet and TCP/IP
or MPLS-TP.
Besides our scheduled courses, we also provide tailored
courses either in Switzerland or at your own site.
