Job Description Sports Coaching Apprentice Start Date: September 2015 Responsible to: Head of PE/PE Coordinator, Head of Quality Assurance and Director of Studies Location: Liverpool, Wirral, Halton, Lancashire, North Wales, Knowsley Hours of Work: Minimum of 30 hours per week Disclosure Level: Enhanced DBS Overall Purpose: The sports assitant apprentice will work full time with a Primary/Secondary School to assist with the delivery of physical education and school sport. This involved coaching during the school day and may incorporate evenings and weekends. The role also includes the study and completeion of the NVQ Level 3 in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport whilst working in a specific school during the one year fixed-term placement. Roles and Responsibilities: To provide high quality sports coaching during and after school to help raise attainment Improve competitve sport provision Improve links with local schools to help with competitve sport and physical activity provision Increase the physical activity levels within the school Asssist with improvement of staff development within the area of Physical Education and School Sport To assist the school in its day to day duties To contribute to the overall ethos, work & aims of the school Develop an understanding of policies & procedures, complying with their contents and raising concerns in a timely manner Organisational Skills: Develop and maintain resources for physical education and sport activities through preparing, maintaining and deploying resources to assist teaching Assist in ensuring the sport inventory is kept up to date To assist in the teaching of physical education through leading acivities, and supporting non specialists Contribute to the planning of lessons and work programmes and devising of suitable activities Support the teaching and learning of individuals or groups of pupils, using support strategies to the needs of the pupils and liaising with staff over any issues Assist teachers in the evaluation and revision of lessons and work programmes Promote fair play and good sporting behaviour and implement the schools behaviour and any related policies Establish out of school physical eduation where possible Criteria Knowledge: Technical or Specialist Literacy and Numeracy Cognitive Skills Research Required for fully competent performance of job Knowledge and use of a range of PE equipment Ability to read and understand instructions Ability to complete basic paper work Ability to use Excel, Word and various databases Assist teacher with gathering information and resources as appropriate Ability to recognise and report problems Assist teacher in creating a positive learning environment Sensitive to pupils needs Ability to communicate clearly Ability to encourage participation in sport and provide feedback Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality Interpersonal Skills Empathy Communications Skills Essential to basic performance of job Experience of working with young people Qualifications Essential A minimum of a FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football or Equivalent NGB NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership or Equivalent A minimum of a Level 2 in Principles of Coaching Sport or Equivalent Desirable Experience of working with young people Experience of working with different participants Grade C or above in Mathematics or English Principles of Coaching Sport Level 3 Level 2 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport A Clean Driving License BTEC Level 2 / GCSE PE Grade C
