Choosing Macab’s triple shielded coaxial cable gives you a top of the line cable with copper inner conductor and a very high screening efficiency. Inner conductor Classification: In drop cables the most common used conductors are electrolytic copper (CU) or copper clad steel (CCS). The CCS conductor can be used thanks to the radio frequency signal is carried only on the surface of the conductor (skin effect). CCS has much higher loop resistance than the CU conductor and that is a very important factor when the cable is used for remote powering. The foil is mainly for preventing ingress of high frequencies. Depending of the thickness and the overlap of the foil different shielding efficiencies will be achieved. Dielectric Gasinjected foam is the latest technology for producing the dielectric of coaxial cables. A nitrogen gas is physically injected into polyethylene (HPDE) which produces a foam with excellent mechanical and ageing performances. Braid Shielding To increase the shielding efficiency you can add a braid. If the braiding coverage is 40% you can reach an efficiency of appr 75 dB. Higher braiding coverage will increase the shielding efficiency. The braid gives better shielding performances for lower frequencies. The efficiency is complex and depends of many different parameters such as how many strands you are using in the braid, the diameter of the strands, number of groups of strands, the length of the twisting and what material you are using. The shielding is introduced to protect the RF signals from external interferences. The shielding can be made in several different ways as single, double, triple and quad. The most common solution today is the triple shielded. The way to test and measure the shielding efficiency is defined by EN50117 and the methods are Transfer Impedance for low frequencies (<30 MHz) and Screening Attenuation for higher frequencies. An extra foil as outer shielding increases the shielding performance specially for the high frequencies and it’s also an extra protection for moisture. Packaging Jacket For your convenience we can offer you different type of packaging.
