Solutions Instrumentation & Controls SPPA-D3000 Diagnostic Suite Plant Diagnostic Solutions SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer Optimizing Power Plant Operation Through Analysis of Archived Process Data Optimize plant operation through an analysis of archived process data Modern I&C systems archive the process data acquired during power plant operation. Further aspects of plant operation are stored in other systems, e.g. maintenance systems and chemical laboratories. In other words, the operating response of the entire plant is documented. All the data necessary for an analysis of the response of each variable relative to thousands of other variables are basically already available. Only the large number of data, their distribution among various archives, and the correlations between them has hitherto prevented them from being used efficiently. Now for the first time, SPPA D-3000 Operations Optimizer makes it possible to process and use previously neglected knowledge from the various archives for the purposes of solving day-to-day tasks. SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer - assess conditions accurately Optimize processes and operating points Simulate solution proposals One of the primary applications of SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer is the extremely fast analysis and display of correlations and interactions between thousands of operating parameters. Optimization targets are defined interactively at a mouse click through selection of pertinent value ranges. SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer provides directly a display of the relevant influencing quantities and the setpoints required to achieve optimization. How will a plant, a unit or a process react to a parameter change? Based on the measured data from the I&C archives, the condition of the relevant object can be displayed immediately for any selected parameter constellation. The decision as to whether the proposed solution for a given task should be implemented or rejected can be made quickly and confidently. Examples of typical optimization targets are • to increase efficiency • to minimize wear • to minimize consumption Assess operating regimes The effects of a particular parameter constellation on the whole plant or a specific subprocess can be assessed quickly and easily with SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer. It performs this function by evaluating the real plant data from the I&C archive, i.e. without modelling. Process parameters are set to achieve the target, plant operation is optimized. The most efficient operating regime for a given situation can be implemented. The red bars define the optimization target. The green bars display the result, i.e. the appropriate parameter settings. 2 SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer - analyse large data volumes quickly Compare plants, units or processes Differences in performance between • whole plants • identical units or • processes running at different times or with different parameter settings are visualized within seconds through the high-speed comparison of thousands of parameters. Anomalous parameters are highlighted and listed according to the magnitude of deviation. Optimization potential in processes, in units or in the whole plant is easy to identify. Suitable action can be planned. Number and distribution of archived data records for certain parameter constellations are analyzed in a 3D diagram. Facilitate troubleshooting All measured quantities stored in the I&C archive which could influence a specific task are located within seconds by SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer. Check quality of a maintenance or overhaul procedure This capability makes it possible to eliminate many of the possible causes of an acute malfunction or abnormal performance. At the same time, the user can feel confident that no relevant factors have been overlooked. Comparing all the measured data recorded before and after maintenance or overhaul allows the success of the procedure to be determined at the click of a button. In many cases, the cause of a malfunction can be determined more rapidly and with minimum analytical effort. Warranty claims can be made promptly for any deficiencies or required corrective measures identified before the warranty period has elapsed. This illustration of shaft vibration plotted against reactive power or exciter current pinpoints the range for vibrationoptimized operation at the trough of the curve. 3 Instrumentation & Controls SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer – for immediate use! Which data can be processed? As a general principle, all scalable quantities can be analyzed by the SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer. The data source and data format are irrelevant. It is even possible to combine different data sources. I&C archives are ideal sources, as are databases of vibration and oil analysis information or archives from waste water laboratories. How are data imported? Data are first extracted as an ASCII or csv file from the selected database. Standardized extraction tools are available for Siemens I&C. These allow variable names, e.g. KKS, and the desired time frame to be specified. It is possible to optimize this process by means of a batch file so that SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer is regularly supplied with up-to-date information. Files generated in this way are used to create a database image, a pdi file for SPPA-D3000 OPT, which contains the correlations between individual items of data. Data are analyzed by means of the SPPA-D3000 Operations Optimizer Explorer. Is the volume of data restricted? In the current version, the data volume within one pdi file is restricted to 10,000 variables and 20 million data records. This artificially set limit can be extended if required. Are there any special requirements of the computer? Standard personal computers or notebooks operating on the Windows 2000, Windows XP, SCO Unix or Linux system can be used. A computer for standard office applications is sufficient, although high computing capacity would provide better ease of use. For large numbers of variables, therefore, it is advisable to use a faster computer with a highcapacity main memory.
