Teaching the New Standards for EMS Come on, admit it, you liked the old curriculum and really don’t want to change. But with the new standards that have come out we must make the change to this new way of teaching our EMT classes of all levels. In this 8 hour session Kirk and Margaret will take you through the new standards, what changes have occurred, where to find teaching resources and how to make your program successful. As always Kirk and Margaret will of course share a few teaching techniques that will make your classes fun while making sure your students are learning the new curriculum. Join Kirk and Margaret for a fun day of learning a new way to teach an old topic. Who knows you might just like the new curriculum and never want to change again. ITLS Provider Renewal This course is designed for the advanced EMT, paramedic, and trauma nurse who must initially evaluate and stabilize the trauma patient. Since this is a critical time in the management of these patients, this course is intended to teach the skills necessary for rapid assessments, resuscitation, packaging, and transport. It also stresses those conditions which cannot be stabilized in the field and thus require immediate transport. It is recognized that there is more than one acceptable way to manage most situations and the procedures described here may be modified by your medical director. The primary objectives of the course are to teach you the correct sequence of evaluation and the techniques of resuscitation and packaging of the patient. You will be given enough practical training to perform these drills rapidly and efficiently, thus giving your patient the greatest chance of arriving at the emergency department in time for definitive care to be lifesaving. This is an ITLS provider renewal class, so you need to be current in your ITLS (or PHTLS) certification. 8 hours of CE (CECBMS, NSBN & State EMS) will be granted for this renewal class. Pediatric Simulator This highly interactive scenario based training will provide participants with realistic scenarios using high fidelity pediatric simulators. Multiple scenarios will be conducted and will feature a wide range of pediatric emergencies including both trauma and medical events. Don’t miss this chance to see how high tech simulation can help to improve the emergency care of children. Class size limited so register early. Triage – You NEVER Know When You Will Need It! It’s a ten car pile-up with multiple patients – unknown injuries. Where do you start? What the heck do you do? This class will review the principles of triage – the sorting, the tagging. Be AWARE – there is very little sitting around.
