BEAUTIFULLY SIMPLE
COLOUR SCHEMES
When selecting a colour scheme for the outside of a building, the colours
you choose need to be beautifully simple. That means using no more than
three colours for the masonry, trim and accent areas. Take a good look at the
surrounding properties too, before you start, as it’s essential to compliment the
colours within the local environment.
START WITH THE MASONRY COLOUR
This is the biggest expanse of colour and with Weathershield you won’t need
to redecorate for many years, so you need a colour that will look smart and
have a timeless appeal. Generally it is best to stick to one colour unless there
are accent areas in other materials.
NOW FOR THE TRIM COLOUR
The right choice of trim colour adds definition and extra style to the exterior.
Paler shades highlight features while darker options are perfect for period
properties.
ADD AN ACCENT COLOUR
Doors are the main accent area. Because they are small relative to the whole
facade they can take richer and brighter colours. When choosing an accent
shade for metalwork and railings, make sure it’s in keeping with the
surrounding properties.
JOINERY & TIMBER CLADDING
Woodwork and timber cladding are integral to many exteriors. In this guide
there are carefully selected colours from the Dulux Trade Weathershield
woodcare palettes that perfectly complement the masonry colours.

Test a small patch of your chosen colour in situ, because different light
conditions and surroundings can change how shades look.
