wikiHow seeking German community facilitators wikiHow ( http://www.wikihow.com

) is currently seeking two or three bilingual

(German-English) contributors to help facilitate the growth of the German wikiHow community ( http://de.wikihow.com

). The community facilitators will be responsible for:

(1) building the German wikiHow community into a vibrant, self-sustaining entity and

(2) working to create, translate, and share high-quality how-to content in German. These community facilitators will have responsibilities of wiki administrators as well as additional content- and community-building activities.

About wikiHow wikiHow is the world's most popular how-to wiki. wikiHow has a vibrant community of authors and editors creating information on thousands DIY (Do-It-Yourself) related topics. The site is very popular in English, receiving 17 million unique visitors per month. Quantcast.com ranks wikiHow as the 102nd most popular site on the Internet.

Yet, wikiHow is not a well known website outside of the English language and that is something we would like to change.

In addition to providing a great how-to manual to millions of users, we take pride in our business practices:

Qualifications

 Native German speaker with good enough English skills to translate articles and communicate with people in wikiHow offices in California, USA.

 Must be proficient with editing on a MediaWiki wiki such as Wikipedia

 Deep experience in wiki or other online communities.

 Current or recently active wiki contributor with a track record of positive interactions with other members of the the communit. While not required having

"Administrator" / "SysOp" status on the wiki can help demonstrate that you know how a wiki works.

 Patience and good interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the community facililator is to encourage the development of an active community of volunteer contributors on German wikiHow. The exact details of this work will be developed in collaboration with the wikiHow support team, but will include all of the following:

 Welcoming and encouraging new contributors

 Serving as a help resource for new contributors

 Outreach to potential contributors such as wiki community members, hobbyists, do-it-yourself enthusiasts, and other such groups

 Maintaining the wiki by patrolling recent changes and deleting inappropriate content

 Translating articles from English wikiHow that are likely to be of interest to

German speakers

 Assisting in the development of community standards and guidelines for contributions

 Other duties as needed to facilitate an atmosphere of friendly, supportive collaboration

 Regular contact with wikiHow support staff regarding community progress and the support needs of the community

Compensation

Pay will be an hourly rate negotiated with the wikiHow support team. Community facilitators will hired as contractors, and will be paid monthly via check or PayPal.
