The push for flexible technology and curriculum materials is coming from all sectors. The iPad is the fastest and most versatile tool to help transform the way we differentiate instruction in classrooms. Why is that? It’s due to the ease of use and the ability to create flexible individualized curricula for each student in the classroom. The goals of this hands-on workshop are to identify the challenges we face when creating a differentiated curriculum and learn how to use the iPad, apps, device features and online resources to create differentiated activities that enhance student learning and promote independence. Participants will develop a framework and understanding for how iPads can be used to create digital content, and provide alternatives for students to demonstrate their learning. Participants will leave this workshop with numerous practical examples of how to use the iPad for differentiation as well as with a wealth of suggestions about how to begin transforming their classroom instruction. Required Equipment: Participants need to bring an iPad to take full advantage of this course. The operating system and all apps should be up to date. Participants will be required to download free or low cost apps to participate fully in this hands-on workshop. This is not for first time users. Participants should have a basic understanding of the iPad. Instructor: Rosey McQuillan is the Assistive Technology Specialist for Wellesley Public Schools, supporting students’ access to the general curriculum through the use of assistive technology and universal design strategies.
