Rapid City Area – September 2016 I-90 Exit 17 and Exit 23 Bridge – PCN 02PP The Contractor has completed all of the removal and replacement of delaminated concrete and the bridge deck grinding on all of the bridge decks on the project. Placement of the two-part epoxy chip seals are scheduled to be completed on September 17th. Work remaining on the project is the replacement of membrane sealant expansion joints, fatigue retrofit work, and minor bridge painting. A 14-ft. overwidth detour has been set up to guide vehicles around these bridge locations. The Prime Contractor is JV Bailey from Rapid City, SD. The $670,000 project has an overall completion date of October 28, 2016 and the project is 40% complete. I90 South Service Road – From Exit 40 at Tilford to Piedmont in Meade County – Grading, AC Surfacing, Structures, Signing – PCN 01KK The project consists of realignment of the Interstate 90 South Service Road between Exit 40 and Piedmont. The new alignment is open to traffic and punch list items are being completed. The overall completion date for the project was July 15, 2016 however additional time has been added to the contract for extra work items. Loiseau Construction, Inc. of Flandreau, SD is the Prime Contractor on this $11.3 million project. The project is approximately 95% complete. I-90 From Exits 63 to 67 – Bridge Rehabilitation – PCN 035J This project consists of bridge repair work on six bridges on Interstate 90 from east of Exit 67 to west of Exit 63 including the Exit 63 on-ramps. The Contractor is currently repairing delaminated bridge deck concrete. Motorists can expect lane closures in the east and westbound lanes, as well as a reduced speed limit of 45 mph when workers are present. The overall completion date for the project is October 31, 2016. Corr Construction Services Inc. is the Prime Contractor on the $490,000 project and is approximately 30% complete with work. I-90 Westbound – Cactus Flats to Wall & US Hwy 14 near Exit 112 – PCN 03W0 The Contractor continues with the installation of the permanent pavement markings, placement of topsoil, and permanent seeding. The Prime Contractor is Bituminous Paving from Ortonville, MN. The $5.9 million project has an overall completion date of October 14, 2016 and is approximately 85% complete. I-190/Silver Street Interchange Reconstruction – PCN 1162 Two-way traffic is being maintained in the northbound lanes of I-190 during reconstruction of the southbound lanes. All existing ramps along I-190 remain closed to traffic except for the Northbound Off-Ramp connecting Omaha Street to North Street. In addition, Silver Street under I-190 has been closed to traffic and will remain closed until completion of the project. A temporary gravel roadway connects Silver Street neighborhood and Philadelphia Street at Founders Park. The Contractor has completed bridge work, and is now working on the bridge approach slabs. Mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls for the new bridge abutments are approximately 90% complete. The remaining 10% will be completed after the existing northbound bridge is removed. Approximately 50% of the MSE wall along the new southbound off ramp has been completed. Grading and storm sewer is complete from the north end of I-190 to the north end of the new bridge, with grading and storm sewer continuing from the south end of the new bridge to the south end of the project. Concrete surfacing of the new southbound lanes and off ramp of I-190 from the north end of the project to north of the new bridge has been completed along with curb and gutter. Gravel, curb and gutter and asphalt surfacing of the new southbound lanes of 190 from the new bridge to the south end of the project will be completed during the months of September and October. City utilities (water and sanitary sewer) have been installed along North Street and continue to be installed along West Blvd. Boegel Street has been closed to thru traffic for reconstruction of Boegel Street and West Boulevard. The 96” RCP along the west side of I-190 has been installed and riprap has been installed in the sediment basin at the outlet of the 96” RCP near the Executive Golf Course. Central High School parking lot modifications were completed prior to the start of the new school year. Reede Construction of Aberdeen, formerly Upper Plains Contracting, Inc., is the Prime Contractor on the $34 million project. The project is being constructed in conjunction with a City of Rapid City utility project. The overall completion date for the project is October 27, 2017 and is approximately 45% complete. US 14A – Spearfish Canyon from Spearfish to Savoy – AC Resurfacing, Guardrail Updates, and Pipe Repair – PCN 03RV This project consists of asphalt concrete resurfacing, guardrail updates, and pipe repairs from Spearfish to Savoy on US Highway 14A. Work began on June 6, 2016 with removal of guardrail, installation of new concrete curb and gutter, asphalt concrete resurfacing and temporary pavement markings. During working hours one lane of traffic is being maintained with flaggers. Contractors will be working on permanent pavement markings and permanent signing throughout the length of the project. The prime contractor is Simon Contractors of SD Inc. doing business as Hills Materials Company on this $2.5 million project and is approximately 85% complete with the project. The overall completion date for the project set for October 1, 2016. US 16 – Mt. Rushmore Road from Saint James Street to Kansas City Street – Full Urban Reconstruction – PCN 027C This project consists of the complete reconstruction of Mt. Rushmore Road between Saint James Street and Kansas City Street in Rapid City. New water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer utilities will be installed along with new PCC paving, curb and gutter, lighting, and traffic signals. In addition, all of the large frontage retaining walls will be reconstructed on the east side of the roadway. Surfacing of the southbound lanes is completed along with the surfacing of the side streets west of Mt. Rushmore Road. Work continues with the surfacing of Mt. Rushmore Road in the northbound lanes and on the side streets east of Mt. Rushmore Road as well as sidewalks and boulevards. Water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer utilities are being installed in the northbound lanes between South Street and Clark Street. The installation of these utilities will continue southward. All traffic is now routed through the project limits in the new southbound lanes. Surfacing removals in the northbound lanes from Kansas City Street to South Street is complete. Surfacing demolition from South Street to Saint James Street is currently being performed. Reede Construction, Inc. of Aberdeen is the Prime Contractor on the $9.6 million combined SDDOT and City of Rapid City project and is approximately 45% complete. US 85 – Charles Street in Deadwood from Intersection with US Hwy 385 to Cemetery Street – PCN 0555 Signing, street lighting, sodding, and cleanup items remain to be completed on the project. Oftedal Construction, Inc. of Miles City, MT is the prime contractor on the $12.3 million project. The project is approximately 106% complete and substantial completion is scheduled for September 16, 2016. Construction of the new Mickelson Trail trailhead building is substantially complete, with only minor miscellaneous work on the building, electrical, and HVAC systems remain to be completed. Sodding, landscaping, and parking lot striping are scheduled to be complete the week of September 12. The overall completion date for this portion of the project is June 16, 2017. Oftedal Construction, Inc. of Miles City, MT is the prime contractor on the $750,000 project. The project is 80% complete. SD 44 – Bridge over the Cheyenne River – PCN 03A5 Work began on July 11 with signals being placed on either end of the bridge to control the one lane of thru traffic. Traffic is now open to both lanes and will be returned to the one lane with signals the week of September 19 for approximately one week. The scope of work consists of concrete repairs, replacement of bridge deck joints, girder painting and an epoxy chip seal. The prime contractor is JV Bailey from Rapid City, SD. The $456,369.80 project has an overall completion date of October 28,2016 and is approximately 85% complete. Sturgis Main Street – PCN 04AE Work began on Main Street on Tuesday, September 6th with crews working from Junction Avenue to First Street. The intersection of Main St. & First Street was closed and the storm sewer and water line work has been completed at this intersection. Two crews are working on water line installations along the south side of Main Street. Crews are also completing punch list work on Main Street east of Junction Avenue. On Thursday, September 15th, the water line crew will move into the intersection of Main St. & Harley Davidson Way. As the water line work progresses west, the south half of Main Street will be closed between Harley Davidson Way and 3rd Street. Traffic will be maintained within this work zone and will be signed for one-way traffic in the westbound direction of travel. Pedestrian routes have been maintained on both sides of Main Street and includes two mid-block crossings. Main Street business access signs have been placed and access is maintained via the alleys. The Prime Contractor is Heavy Constructors from Rapid City, SD. The contract has an overall completion date of June 30, 2017. Work is approximately 20% complete. Century Road Extension – PCN 04P6 This project extends Century Road to the new E. Anamosa Street project that was constructed in 2012. Grading and concrete paving work is complete and crews are expected to complete topsoil and seeding by the end of September. This project also includes a pedestrian crossing on E. Anamosa Street between La Crosse Estates apartments and Walmart. The project is funded with leftover Earmark money not spent on the E. Anamosa Street project. Complete Concrete of Rapid City is approximately 80% complete with the $650,000 project.
