Transfer Guide
When LaQuan Martinez ’16CPS,
a public relations major, transferred
to St. John’s University in Fall 2013,
he was unsure whether it was
the right decision for him. “My
experience at St. John’s has been
more than positive,” he said. “I
transferred from my community
college because I felt that I could
receive more from a university and
St. John’s has proven that I could.”
After getting involved on campus
with his fraternity, Sigma Pi, on the
St. John’s Dance Team, and as a
transfer student ambassador, LaQuan reflected, “I no longer have
any doubts about the choice that I have made. St. John’s is my home,
and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” LaQuan
said. “If not for St. John’s, I wouldn’t have received my summer
internship at Target.”
SCHOLARSHIPS
St. John’s strives to put a college degree within the financial reach
of each student. During the 2013–2014 academic year, 96
percent of St. John’s students received $474 million in aid through
scholarships, grants, work-study programs, and loans. All transfer
students to St. John’s are considered for transfer scholarships,
which range from $5,100 to $15,000 annually. Phi Theta Kappa
members are also eligible for an additional annual scholarship in the
amount of $2,000.
We offer a transfer distinction award for up to $15,000 in tuition
discount if the transfer admission criteria are met and the student
has earned, or will earn, an associate degree from a community
college before enrolling. As long as the student remains continuously
enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in good academic
standing, the award will be renewed for the next two or three years.
All transfer students are considered for an academic scholarship or
the transfer distinction award.
