Job Title: ‘Made Of More’ Sessional Worker
Reports to: Day to day delivery: ‘Made Of More’ Project Coordinator, Supervision
and oversight: Chief Executive/SLT.
Reporting to this position: n/a
Hours: As and when required, in agreement with ‘Made Of More’ Projecto
Coordinator and/or Chief Executive. This post includes evening and weekend work.
Days and hours to be agreed with line management.
Salary: £9.50 per hour (£17929.60 full time equivalent). The hourly rate includes
payment for annual leave equivalent to 28 days leave for full time work. Therefore
9.3% of the hourly rate (£0.88) is payment for accrued annual leave.
Length of post: Up to 150 hours per year ‘as and when’ required, between 5th
January 2015 and 5th January 2018. Hours will likely be divided between 2-3
sessional workers, resulting in less than 150 hours per sessional worker.
Job summary
This is a sessional post to support the delivery of youth work activities as part of the
‘Made Of More’ Project. This is a primarily delivery post, where the post holder(s) will
be involved in delivering youth work aspects of the project, including ‘Made Of More’
courses, residential activities, day activities and mentoring. The post holder will
engage with disadvantaged and vulnerable young men primarily in a group work
setting, delivering resources designed for the project. The post holder will support the
‘Made Of More’ Project Coordinator and ‘Made Of More’ Project Worker in the
delivery of activities that require higher staffing levels, in particular additional outdoor
activities and/or residential holidays. There is a priority on delivering this work to
young men aged 11-18 identified as disaffected, disadvantaged and vulnerable and
the post holder will work directly with young people referred under this agenda.
Although this is primarily a delivery post, the post holder will be expected to
undertake appropriate administration and preparation for activities when requested,
alongside contributing to further development of the project and new activities in
conjunction with the Creative Director and ‘Made Of More’ Coordinator if and when
required.
Summary of key responsibilities:
1. To deliver and facilitate activities and sessions within the ‘Made Of
More’ project to vulnerable/disadvantaged young men.
2. To support the ‘Made Of More’ Project Coordinator and ‘Made Of More’
Project Worker in the devising and delivery of relevant activities.
3. To build and foster appropriate and effective relationships with others.
4. To participate in the wider development of the ‘Made Of More’ course and
provision for boys aged 11-18, including developing additional activities in
response to young people’s ideas.
5. To represent the work of Golddigger Trust to parents/carers and other
professionals.
6. To develop professionally and personally through the course of employment.
7. To participate fully in the life of Golddigger Trust, reflecting the ethos of the
Trust in day-to-day life.
Key responsibilities and tasks:
1. To deliver and facilitate activities and sessions within the ‘Made Of
More’ project to vulnerable/disadvantaged young men.
1.1 To lead and co-lead ‘Made Of More’ sessions with young men, alongside the
‘Made Of More’ Project Coordinator and/or ‘Made Of More’ Project Worker.
1.2 To participate in the referral/signposting of young men from courses, mentoring
and interventions into other projects and/or outside organisations when relevant.
1.3 To complete comprehensive written records and reports when required,
particularly of all meetings with young people outside of courses and any disclosures
made, and deal appropriately with information. .
1.4 To participate in the ongoing development of the programme and material for the
‘Made Of More’ course.
1.5 To personally contribute to the ‘Made Of More’ course through sharing
appropriate personal stories and experiences in delivery settings.
1.6 To help lead any ‘Made Of More’ residential holidays and/or day activities outside
of the course or mentoring formats.
2. To support the ‘Made Of More’ Project Coordinator and ‘Made Of
More’ Project Worker in the devising and delivery of relevant activities.
2.1 To support the running of follow on sessions and activities, including residential
holidays and day sessions.
2.2 To assess young people for appropriate referrals to other projects, organisations
or agencies, in conjunction with the ‘Made Of More’ Project Coordinator.
2.3 To deliver and support other staff in coordinating and recording specific
interventions and referrals, as guided by line manager.
2.2 To participate in the ongoing development and evaluation of the additional
programmes and support (mentoring resources, outdoor sessions etc.)
2.3 To deliver one-on-one mentoring/befriending sessions in accordance to
Golddigger Trust Child Protection policies.
3. To build and foster appropriate and effective relationships with others
3.1 To build and maintain effective positive relationships with young people in
Sheffield through agreed courses, interventions and activities.
3.2 To work within the parameters of Golddigger Trust’s Child Protection Policy, and
any additional safeguarding parameters required by other organisations.
3.3 To feedback any pertinent information to referring organisation (Social Worker,
Teacher etc) around young person’s situation and vulnerabilities, and to Golddigger
Trust supervisor.
3.4 To build positive, encouraging working relationships with other Golddigger Trust
staff and volunteers.
4. To participate in the wider development of the ‘Made Of More’ course and
provision for boys aged 11-18.
4.1 To be actively involved in developing and evaluating the ‘Made Of More’
course/mentoring sessions and other interventions in consultation with line managers
and team.
4.2 To continuously consider whether the ‘Made Of More’ course and other
interventions are meeting the changing needs of young people, and to inform the
Creative Director of any arising issues or needs.
4.3 To work with other staff and young people to develop new activities that respond
to the target client group’s needs and wishes.
5. To represent the work of Golddigger Trust to parents/carers, schools and
other professionals.
5.1 To maintain Golddigger Trust's good standing and reputation with external
organisations and individuals.
5.2 To maintain and develop relational links with other relevant parties, highlighting
relationships
or
contacts
to
other
staff
for
their
contact.
5.3 To represent Golddigger Trust in formal or informal settings as agreed with line
manager.
6. To develop professionally and personally through the course of
employment.
6.1 To undertake relevant training, including full training to lead the ‘Made Of More’
resource.
6.2 To participate in team and personal training and development.
6.3 To reflect on personal behaviour and attitudes, ensuring they mimic the values of
the Trust (equality, valuing others etc) and that personal behaviour does not
contradict the post holder’s position as a positive role model to young people.
6.4 To be responsible for personal time management, ensuring that sessions are
prepared for and delivered in a timely fashion.
7. To participate fully in the life of Golddigger Trust, reflecting the aims and
objectives of the Trust in day-to-day life.
7.1 To participate in all required Golddigger Trust wide activities (e.g. Team training,
staff meetings, annual supporters evening) when engaged in regular work with the
Trust.
7.2 To be sympathetic to Golddigger Trust’s Christian ethos and work within it’s
organisational vision and aims. (Note- there is not an occupational requirement for
the post holder to follow any particular religious belief, but they must be comfortable
working within the overarching faith based ethos of the organisation.)
7.3 To undertake other duties suitable to grade as directed by line manager.
Conditions of employment
Location: Based at Golddigger Trust Office (Currently Wilson Carlile Centre, 50
Cavendish Street, S3 7RZ- however subject to change in 2015 to another city centre
location) and delivering sessions itinerantly around Sheffield and the surrounding
areas.
Transport: Employee may at times need to provide own vehicle for transporting
themselves, other staff and equipment to itinerant courses. Car parking space is
provided at office on days when vehicle is needed for work purposes. (Mileage paid
at Inland Revenue standard rates- 45p/m currently).
Holiday: No holiday allowance (see salary information).
Termination: Sessional work to be agreed on an ad-hoc basis for set periods of
time. Termination of any future work, 2 months by either party.
