REQUEST AND RECOMMENDATION Ashland University Adolescence to Young Adult Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) License Request: Ashland University requests approval to offer a baccalaureate level program leading to the Ohio Adolescence to Young Adult Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) License. Profile: Ashland University is a private comprehensive university affiliated with the Brethren Church. The university was founded in 1878 with a specific mission to educate and challenge students to develop intellectually and ethically, to seek wisdom and justice, and to prepare for the rigors of living and working as citizens aware of their global responsibilities. Located in Ashland, Ohio, the university has an enrollment of more than 3,000 undergraduate and nearly 2,700 graduate students. Accreditation/Authorization: Ashland University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) until its next scheduled review in 2017. Ashland University’s educator preparation programs are accredited by National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) until the next review in 2017. Background: Ashland University is submitting its Limited State Review request to ensure program alignment with Ohio standards and requirements. The program currently holds Specialized Professional Association (SPA) national recognition without conditions, which is a pre-requisite to Limited State Review. Programs leading to the Adolescence to Young Adult Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) License are valid for teaching students in grades 7 through 12. Ashland University offers the program leading to the Adolescence to Young Adult Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) License at the baccalaureate level. Recommendation: Ashland University’s Adolescence to Young Adult Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) License preparation program meets the Chancellor’s requirements for program approval and the State Board of Education’s minimum standards for baccalaureate level programs leading to the Adolescence to Young Adult Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) License. Approval is recommended for Ashland University’s baccalaureate level program leading to the Adolescence to Young Adult Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry) License until the spring 2023 review cycle. Due to the small number of completers in the program, the Ohio Educator Preparation Program Performance Reports could not be considered in the review process to determine acceptable or unacceptable ranges.
