THE FULL RESPECT OF THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT
Adriatic LNG Terminal complies with the highest international standards of environmental
safeguards, energy efficiency and safety, in full respect of the most rigid regulations and
procedures. Its commitment to the safety of its staff and local communities is confirmed by the
professionals, state-of-the-art-equipment and systems it has chosen to work with.
Safeguard of the sea environment
The terminal has successfully passed four different Environmental Impact Assessments
(VIA) and it received its Environmental Integrated Authorization (AIA).
An extensive coastal and sea environment monitoring plan has been agreed upon by Adriatic
LNG and the Superior Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) and it has
been implemented under the supervision of the Regional Agency for Environmental Safeguard
and Protection of Veneto (ARPAV):

The plan will be carried out prior to and during the working phases, in the terminal
shipyard;
•
Data will be sent to ARPA Veneto, and from there to the Province of Rovigo;
•
To date, 150 campaigns have been conducted to monitor the surrounding
environment.

Water column (abiotic and biotic elements): About 50 campaigns

Sediments (abiotic and biotic elements): About 50 campaigns

Fish population: 20 campaigns

Mussels: 30 campaigns

Coast morphology: 5 campaigns
A new submarine world: The artificial barrier
In January 2010 an artificial barrier called Tecnoreef was installed at a depth of 30 meters
below sea level, in a security area, with the aim of creating a suitable environment for local fish
species:
•
The barrier includes pyramidal submerged atolls of various sizes;
•
It is made of concrete, and features natural elements, without synthetic additives;
•
It has generated an increase in flora and fauna.

Adriatic LNG to be an example of successful co-habitation between an energetic infrastructure and fishing activities.
Air Quality
The AIA (Autorizzazione Integrata Ambientale) Decree sets rigid environmental parameters for
the emission into the atmosphere of exhaust gases generated by the turbines activated to
produce electricity.
Adriatic LNG performs consistently rigorous emissions controls, both on the atmosphere in the
regasification plant and onboard the LNG terminal through a special measurement unit located
in Porto Viro, in the province of Rovigo.
Terrestrial flora and fauna
The construction of a natural gas pipeline hat connects the ALNG terminal to the mainland took
place in full compliance with the safeguards of lakeland areas and of the habits of migratory
birds flying over the Po.
Moreover, to protect the most sensitive areas:

Innovative techniques have been introduced, such as controlled horizontal drilling;

Temporary barriers have been installed to reduce noise pollution and water turbidity;

Remedial measures were put in place for the revegetation of the most impacted
areas, which have already yielded positive results with the revival of previously
disappeared local tree species.
