ANNUAL CONVENTION
The CNAREA Annual Convention began on Wednesday, June
3, with an enjoyable tour to the 40 Knots Winery where
members had the opportunity to taste some great local wines
and then continued on to the Shelter Point Distillery for more
sampling of their products and a tasty lunch. The annual
President’s Reception commenced back at the hotel at 5:30
PM and was followed by a spectacular dinner.
Thursday started with a presentation of the Standards update
course followed by the annual golf tournament and dinner for
all at the golf course.
Friday was meeting day with both the Annual General
Meeting and the Annual Board of Directors Meeting. The
afternoon was filled with a great presentation by the legal
counsel from our insurance provider. Everyone then attended
the Annual Beach BBQ for some really good local steak,
salmon, and prawns along with 8 different wines to taste and
enjoy. Member of the Year was awarded to James
Carty, DAR, Certified Appraisal Reviewer for the Ottawa
region and Candidate Member of the Year went to
Brianne Bors from Mannville, Alberta.
Saturday was an education day with three different courses
offered and dinner at a local beachfront restaurant.
Thanks to our guests Eric Matte, President of the ATEFQ and
the representatives of the Real Estate Council of Alberta
(RECA) Jean Flanagan and John Farmer. Your
representation was much appreciated.
This was one of the best conventions yet affording for some
really interesting meaningful discussions amongst the
members, the guests, and the sponsors. Thank you to all who
attended and special thanks to all of our sponsors who make it
all possible with their generous contributions.
We are already into the planning for next year, the dates will
be June 1, 2, 3, & 4, with a new and exciting schedule of
events.

JAMES E. CARTY
The award going to Jim this year was considered to be long
overdue by many members. Jim has served on the Board of
Directors for seven years and has been Vice President for the
past two. He has been very active representing the
Association at trade shows, with various government
departments, and lenders. He has always represented the
Association with acumen and professionalism. He is a great
example of what membership in CNAREA means.

BRIANNE BORS
Congratulations to Brianne. She has been a great example of
professionalism as a Candidate Member. Not only has she
been a diligent student in our classrooms but has also
contributed her time to attend the Lakeland College Career
Day and help out with our booth. Brianne wins a $500.
education scholarship as Candidate Member of the Year.
Brianne has just completed final examination for DAR, and
passed. Congratulations Brianne, on your DAR.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT NEWS
Changes have been made in the continuing education course
content. The number of hours (28) required every two years
remains unchanged but will now have to include the following;
Course #5.0A Standards Review (4 hours)
Course #4.3R Residential Appraisal Report Writing (7 hours)
AND for all Certified Appraisal Reviewers:
Course #4.6R Reviewer Recertification (7 hours)
This is a new 1 day course that will have to be completed every
two years by all Certified Appraisal Reviewers to keep up
their professional designation, and therefore also to be able to
continue to be a Supervisor. This can also be considered to be
part of the 28 hours of continuing education as required by all
members.
DAR Final Examinations
Effective immediately DAR final examinations will be
administered 3 times each year in each of Toronto, Calgary,
Parksville, and Montreal.
The exact dates will be set by August for the balance of 2015.

schedule.
The Annual Instructors Clinic took place on Wednesday June
3, at the Annual Convention. We will have one new Instructor
joining the faculty within a few months.
Continuing Education
Effective immediately, CNAREA will continue to accept
continuing education hours from other sources but with the
following stipulations:
-courses must be a minimum of 3 hours in duration
-courses must be presented in a classroom setting
-no online courses will be accepted
-course content must be appraisal specific
Please remember, it is the obligation of each member to keep a
personal record of their continuing education status and to be
sure that they have the required number of hours within the
current continuing education cycle. If you have a problem with
this and need more information, contact the Education
Department (education@cnarea.ca)
