The motors described in this catalogue satisfy the essential requisites of the following Directives:
- 72/23/EEC Low Voltage Directive
Reference has also been made to the following directives, specifically for the reasons listed as follows:
- EMC 89/336/EEC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Directive
- 2006/42/CE Machinery Directive
The electric motors/generators are components that are incorporated into other machines, systems and plants and
therefore the resulting EMC behaviour is under the responsibility of the Manufacturer of the machine or plant
incorporating the motor/generator.
With reference to the 2006/42/EC Directive, it must be specified that the motors/generators must be installed in
compliance with the installation instructions and cannot be put into service until the machine in which they are
incorporated has been declared in compliance with the 2006/42/EC Machinery Directive.

SICMEMOTORI, among the European leaders for variable speed applications, presents this series of three-phase
asynchronous motors, expressly designed for inverter duty.
Designing and manufacturing characteristics, together with materials utilised for the construction of these motors,
make this series one of the most advanced actually available on the market

All motors are in conformity with European Directives and are CE marked.
Motors can run(when grid connected) with voltage variation of ± 10% and frequency variation of ± 5% with a
maximum combined variation of ± 10%, with temperature rise in compliance with IEC Standards.
Inverter duty – Stator windings
The AL series motors are expressely designed and manufactured for inverter duty, referring to the IEC guidelines
(EN60034-25). Stator windings are manufactured using the following cautions:
- Double layer insulated copper wire
- Vacuum impregnation using high quality impregnating resin
- Phase windings separation
Motors can be used in tropical climates without further treatment
The use of inverter requires some cautions: it is recommended to use filter between inverter and motor and to not
exceed 30mt cable length (over 30mt, the use of filters is compulsory)
It is advisable that max dV/dt at motor terminals is ≤1.5kV/µsec, max peak voltage ≤1500V (voltage <500V; for
voltage higher than 500V please ask SICMEMOTORI).
Insulated bearing from frame 250 and above is strongly recommended.
Ratings and technical data
The tables of technical data are referred to continuous duty S1, an ambient temperature of -15÷40°C and a max
altitude of 1000 m.a.s.l..
In different environmental conditions output ratings vary, and are obtainable by applying the factors showed in table
6, maintaining the temperature rise within the B insulation class (F insulation class when inverter supplied).

Power supply different than rated values
Three-phase electric motors can be used on European Network 230/400V ±10% (50Hz). That means that motors
can also be used with the following other networks:
220/380V ±5%
240/415V ±5%
Same motors can also work with 60Hz, with different performances and electrical features, as described in the
following table.

Motors with independent axial ventilation IC 416
When wide constant torque speed regulation is required, an independent axial fan can be assembled, with
separate supply, to guarantee an efficient motor cooling at low speed.
Fan terminals are installed in an auxiliary terminal box on the fan cover
The assembling of a hollow shaft pulse generator can also be done.
The degree of protection of the whole motor is still IP54 (frames 90-132) and IP55 (frames 132, 3-phase – 355).

Constant torque and constant power speed regulation
Through the inverter, AL series motors can work at frequency different than the nominal one (50Hz), at constant
torque (frequency lower than 50Hz) or at constant power (frequency higher than 50Hz), according to the following:
IC411 motors:
Constant torque down to 40Hz, than torque must be reduced
Constant power up to 87Hz (max speed must remain within the limits of page 18)
IC416 motors:
Constant torque down to 5Hz
Constant power up to 87Hz (max speed must remain within the limits of page 18)

Pulse generator
A hollow shaft (15 mm diameter) pulse generator can be assembled to control the motor speed; usually, pulse
generator terminals are loose. SICMEMOTORI can supply the following pulse generators:

Other pulse generators, with same fixing dimensions, can be assembled by the customer itself.
Pulse generators can be mounted on IC411 and IC416 motors. In both cases, dimensions “L” and “LB” increase of
the “∆L” value indicated in the “Auxiliary blowers data” table (page 19)
Pulse generator can not be mounted for motors with second power shaft end.
Terminal box and cable glands
Terminal box is on top, near the DE side, IP55 degree of protection (provided that supply cable connection is
properly made). It can be rotate through 90° to 90°.
The terminal board is normally equipped with 6 terminals, and it is made with non hygroscopic and anti-mold
material.
Ground terminal is located inside the terminal box.
Accessories included as standard
All motors of the AL series are standard equipped with:

3 x PTC + 3 PTO probes (frames 160-355)
Terminals are inside the motor terminal box. Cable gland is located on the opposite side of the entrance of the
main supply cables.
Thermal probes
Bimetallic thermal probes (PTO)

Three probes series connected with NC contact, in the motor winding.
Contact opens when the winding temperature exceeds the operating value
Thermistor probes (PTC)
Comply with DIN 44081/44082 Standards.
Three therimistors series connected in the motor winding. They must be connected to a dedicated release device
(not included in Sicme Motori supply).
A sudden resistance variation happens with the temperature.
Temperature sensors (Pt100)
Comply with BIN-IEC 751 standards.
The resistance caries proportionally to the winding temperature. It must be connected to a dedicated device (not
included in Sicme Motori supply).
Winding: three Pt100 in the motor winding, one per phase.
Bearings: one Pt100 installed in the bearing housing. Terminals are installed in a specific terminal box.
Heaters
Heaters are recommended for motors operating in environments with high degree of moisture, or with considerable
temeparture variations or with low temperature (dabger of ice).
Heaters are resistances fixed on the coils head, they must be used when motor is not running, to avoid the
condensation inside the motor itself.
Terminals are installed inside the motor’s terminal box.
Drain holes are compulsory.

General information about motors efficiency
With Standards IEC60034-30, 2008, three new efficiency classes IE (International Efficiency) have been defined
with validity in all EU Countries.
Standards IEC60034-30 concerns 2/4/6 poles motors, single speed, three-phase, power from 0.75kW to 375kW,
nominal voltage less than 1000V, 50 and 60Hz, duty S1 (or S3, with minimum intermittent factor of 80%)
Motors have been divided into Classes called IE (International Efficiency), followed by a number which gives the
Efficiency Class (the higher is the number, the greater is the Efficiency Class).
The defined Efficiency Classes are IE1 (standard efficiency),IE2 (high efficiency) and IE3 (Premium efficiency)

Advantages of using high efficiency motors can be summarized as follows:
- Reducing consumption and c ost of energy
- Reducing the motors overheating, thus improving the life of the motor
- Higher efficiencies at partial loads, as constant losses are smaller
- Greater ability to withstand voltage fluctuations and imbalances of the power supply (when grid connected)
- More advantages in applications with inverter supply
