FAQs for students on ORIENTATION COURSE/ GMCS-I 1. What is the new Orientation Course (OC) w.e.f. July 1, 2016? The new Orientation Course is a 15 days (90 hours) course required to be undergone mandatorily by all new entrants for CA course before registering for practical training. The course focuses on the students to make them complete business managers with an all-round personality encompassing managerial/ soft/communication skills. This course is being introduced as a result of the Council decision to dispense with GMCS-I Course and merge its syllabus with Orientation Programme. 2. What is the fee structure for attending Orientation Course (15 days)? Registration fee for Orientation Course is Rs.7,000/-per student on non-residential basis including study material. 3. What is the duration of Orientation Course? The duration of the course shall be 90 hours to be completed in 15 days. 4. Whether the students who have registered for practical training on or after January 1, 2015 are required to undergo GMCS-I? No, the students who have registered for practical training on or after January 1, 2015 are exempted from undergoing GMCS-I. However, they are required to undergo GMCS (Nomenclature of GMCS-II changed) before applying for membership of the Institute. 5. Whether the students who have registered for practical training on or after January 1, 2015 are required to undergo GMCS even if they have completed GMCS-I? The students who have registered for practical training on or after January 1, 2015 are exempted from undergoing GMCS-I. However, even if they have completed GMCS-I, they are required to undergo GMCS (Nomenclature of GMCS-II changed) before applying for membership of the Institute. 6. Whether students who have cleared Intermediate (IPC) Course Group-I and are yet to undergo Orientation Programme are required to do Orientation Course (15 days). Please clarify. Students who have cleared Intermediate (IPC) Course Group-I and are yet to undergo Orientation Programme are required to do Orientation Course (15 days) for being eligible for practical training. If such students have already enrolled for a batch of Orientation Programme (35 hours) commencing before July 1, 2016, they should complete the Orientation Programme (35 hours) and would not be then required to undergo either Orientation Course (15 days) or GMCS-I Course. 7. Whether the students who have registered for practical training on or after January 1, 2015 and have already enrolled for a batch of GMCS-I, are still required to undergo the same? If the students who have registered for practical training on or after January 1, 2015, have already enrolled for a batch of GMCS-I, they shallbe required to undergo GMCS-I Course only. However, they are not required to do Orientation Course (15 days). 8. Please clarify about the students who have already enrolled in a batch of Orientation Programme (35 hours) commencing on or after July 1, 2016. Such students have to undergo Orientation Course (15 days) and have to pay the balance amount of fee, i.e. Rs.4,000/- since all the batches of Orientation Course commencing from July 1, 2016 onwards would be for 15 days instead of 35 hours. 9. Whether the students who have registered for practical training on or after May 1, 2012 till December 31, 2014 are required to undergo GMCS after GMCS-I? The students who have registered for practical training on or after May 1, 2012 till December 31, 2014 are also required to undergo GMCS before applying for membership of the Institute. 10. Whether students are entitled to get fee refund for GMCS-I Course if already registered in a batch of GMCS-I? Students are not entitled for fee refund for GMCS-I Course unless that batch is cancelled by the concerned POU. In such cases, they are required to complete GMCS-I Course. 11. Where can a student undergo Orientation Course? The student may register for a batch of Orientation Coursewith any Decentralized Office/ Branch/ CPE Chapter across the country of their choice, irrespective of his place of residence/ study. 12. Does Board of Studies provide any study material for Orientation Course? The Board of Studies provides study material for Orientation course. The study materials are delivered to the DCOs/ Branches/ CPE Chapters on their request for distribution to the students after registering for the Orientation Course. 13. Is there any provision of exemption from payment of fee? Disabled Students, suffering 50% or above permanent disability are exempted from payment of fee and compulsorily attending Orientation Course.Such students can either opt to (i) attend all the classes or (ii) appear in two test papers of 3 hours each after a period of 15 days from the date of registration after thoroughly studying the Orientation Course Study Manual. In case the student opts to take the tests, the Programme Organizing Unit (POU) may contact the Director, Board of Studies to obtain the test papers. 14. Who shall be defined as a disabled student for exemption of fee? The following shall be regarded as disability a. Blindness – “Blindness” refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions, namely: • total absence of sight; • visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses; or • limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse. b. Low vision – “Low vision” means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive correction but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with appropriate assistive device. c. Leprosy cured – “Leprosy cured” means any person who has been cured of leprosy but is suffering from • loss of sensation in hands or feet as well as loss of sensation and paresis in the eye and eye-lid but with no manifest deformity; • manifest deformity and paresis but having sufficient mobility in their hands and feet to enable them to engage in normal economic activity; • extreme physical deformity as well as advanced age which prevents him from undertaking any gainful occupation, and the expression “leprosy cured” shall be constructed accordingly. d. Hearing impairment – “Hearing impairment” means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies. e. Locomotors disability – “Locomotors disability” means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy. f. Permanent and total loss of voice – a disabled student has to submit a certificate of suffering from disability, certified by a physician / surgeon / oculist working in a Government hospital, as the case may be. 15. Will the students get a certificate after the successful completion of the course? The students will get a certificate from the organizing centre after successful completion of the course. 16.
