The comprehensive UniSafe face protection range includes head and safety helmet mounted
faceshields and visor holders. The faceshield attachment system is consistent throughout the
entire range and offers face protection flexibility – allowing a range of visor holder/carriers to be
compatible with all the faceshields suitable for the application.

The UniSafe browguard is a stylish and lightweight head mounted product, designed to offer
the wearer high protection and comfort in applications where eye and face protection are
required.
Manufactured from high impact nylon it is suitable for all general industrial and high heat
applications. A comprehensive range of visors are available for easy attachment.
The comprehensive range of UniSafe Visors fit the UniSafe browguard (VV997) or the VH500
(non-peaked), VH500P (peaked), or VV765 and VV766 Visor holders.

VISOR MATERIALS
GUIDE TO VISOR MATERIALS
The information below can assist you in the selection of the most appropriate visor material to suit your
application. Further information is available on the UniSafe Technical Data Sheets.
UniSafe Visors fit the UniSafe browguard (VV997) or the VH500 (non-peaked), VH500P (peaked) or
VV765 and VV766 visor holders.
It is recommended that with all faceshields secondary eye protection should be worn.
POLYCARBONATE (PC)
• Polycarbonate visor material is best to select for resistance to impact and waterbased
liquids (biological, acids, weak solvents)
• Polycarbonate visors have a safe operating temperature of 105°C (material will start to
distort and warp when it reaches its maximum temp).
• Polycarbonate visors come in three thicknesses: 0.76mm, 1mm and 1.5mm
- 0.76mm polycarbonate visors provide medium impact protection
- 1mm and 1.5mm polycarbonate visors provide high impact protection
• For harsh chemicals and high molten metal applications use Thermotuff+ visors
• Certified to AS/NZS 1337.1:2010
THERMOTUFF+ (T+)
• Thermotuff+ visors provide high impact protection and good protection against high heat
and chemical splash.
• Thermotuff+ visors have a safe operating temperature of 125°C (material will start to
distort and warp when it reaches its maximum temp).
• Thermotuff+ visors come in 1mm thickness providing high impact protection
• Certified to AS/NZS 1337.1:2010

Shade 2 for low levels of light radiation
Shade 5 visors give protection against liquid splash, high glare and ultra violet radiation

METAL MESH
• Approved for use for protection against high levels of radiant heat
• The metal mesh absorbs the heat, allowing the user to work in comfort
• This metal mesh material is not approved for molten metal splash hazards and additional eye
protection should be worn
• Mesh visors are recommended for low impact protection only
NYLON (FORESTRY) MESH
• Approved for use for protection against large dust particles and abrasion
• The forestry mesh visor range is suitable for brush cutting and trimming, where the main hazard
is large pieces of solid material and constant abrasion
• Selection of the right mesh is dependent on the amount of particulate protection in relation to
the visibility required in the application
• Additional eye protection should be worn beneath the visor
• Mesh visors are recommended for low impact protection only
GOLD
• Approved for use for protection against impact, liquid splash, molten metal splash,
infra-red and ultraviolet radiation
• Suitable for industries where there are high levels of heat and glare
• Resists high radiant heat environments such as foundry work
• Polycarbonate 1mm
• Will resist high levels of radiation heat by reflecting heat away and reducing the surface
temperature of the material
• Certified to AS/NZS 1337.1:2010
COMPLETE
BROWGUARDS & VISORS
A range of Australian made browguards and visor combinations are used in many
industries to protect operators against flying particles, liquid, chemical and molten
splashes, radiant heat and glare. Utilised with UniSafe PPE ensures a “certified
combination” under AS/NZS standards. All browguard and visor combinations are
either medium or high impact.

Markings on eye protectors are a requirement for certification. It assists users in identifying their

These protectors are intended for indoor and outdoor use
where no optical radiation hazards exist other than solar
radiation.
They are intended to provide adequate protection against
ultraviolet radiation from the sun, but are not intended to
provide protection against sun glare.

These protectors are intended for outdoor use where no

Filter Lenses
(green shade 2 or 5)
These filter lenses are intended for welder assistant use
and provide limited protection against ultraviolet. Infrared
and visible radiation. Not suitable for electrical welding.
Impact protection
Impact protection is determined by the metres per second in which a projectile travels. A special test
rig fires a 6.35mm ball at either 12m, 40m or 120m per second.

All the above testing ensures your eye/face protector will perform as it is designed to do.
Selecting eye/face protection is very much about identifying the hazards and assessing the risks.

Australian/New Zealand Standards AS/NZS 1337 is an excellent reference document and provides
assistance for selecting appropriate eye protection.
