Future Facilities and Cemetery Grounds Improvements The Missoula Cemetery, in addition to equipment needs, has other future needs to the facilities and grounds. The following is a partial list without any costs, as they are unknown at the present. There is no time date on these projects; they are to show City Council the Cemetery needs in the future. Facilities: Cemetery Office: Built in the 1940’s as a brick building, but with no insulation, old electrical wiring, original windows and a boiler system with asbestos and old plumbing. A professional architect/engineer will to be contracted to see if remodel will work or a new building. Chapel: Convert existing Chapel into an “indoor” glass niche wall building. Cremations continue to grow with these facilities becoming increasing popular. Currently, one of these exits at another Missoula Cemetery. Grounds: Pumps: Two irrigation pumps (old ones purchased in 1970 and the other in 1980’s. Cemetery Front entrance: Redesign front entrance for better site lines, beatification, etc. Require vacating street and property trade with private business North Buffer Fence: Install 2500 feet, 10 feet tall, screening fence from industrial yard next to Cemetery. This area is where we are currently selling graves and many families do not like the industrial look. This would screen it. Cemetery Master plan: Continual to develop in phases the Cemetery Master plan. The first phase was recently completed. The future phases consist of approx. 30 acres (see enclosed master plan. This includes curbs and gutters on Scott Street and Shakespeare along with al the roads, curbs, asphalt, irrigation, landscaping, signage gate entrances, etc. etc. Existing Cemetery: Develop new sections as public demands certain criteria be met for there culture or reglisous views. This requires redesign existing sections with irrigation, grave layout, etc. which requires funding. Miscellaneous; The Cemetery Board has request for smaller projects from a memorial wall, scattering garden, etc. that would require funding.
