Page 2 Chapter News - October 2015 Dear SuncoastHR Members: Hopefully like me, you enjoyed some quality time with your family and friends over the Labor Day holiday. For me, Labor Day marks the beginning of the holiday season, my favorite time of the year. What a fantastic time we had at the HR Florida Conference. We kicked it off with a great social gathering with our sister chapter’s HR Tampa and Sarasota SHRA. It was well attended and people are still raving about how grand it was. Victoria Henrich, owner of 5 Star Staffing hosted the event and did an outstanding job. She exceeded our expectations with a fantastic assortment of hor d’oeuvres, drinks and gifts. Victoria definitely strives for excellence! A special thank you to Victoria. As usual, the conference was well organized and well worth the cost. It was a great opportunity to make new connections while enjoying the informative topics presented by experts in their field. It was also a pleasure to meet so many HR Florida volunteers who so graciously gave of their time during the conference. Kudos to all HR Florida and chapter volunteers. You make so many great things happen! Another exciting part of the conference was when Lynn Heckler, our very own Past President was named 2015 HR Professional of the Year! Not only is she an amazing HR Professional, but she also donated her entire winnings from this award on behalf of our chapter to the Big Purple Weigh In making SuncoastHR one of the top 6 winners for the most donated to Harbor House during conference. A very special thank you to Lynn Heckler. Way to go Lynn! It has been such a fun filled month for our chapter. The conference was followed up by an excellent gathering with our HR Tampa colleagues at the offices of Ogletree Deakins where we enjoyed game night! I’m not much of a game player myself, so when our membership team recommended we participate in this event, I wasn’t too excited. My mind was changed very quickly when I reluctantly jumped in and started playing the game “Apples to Apples,” a game in which I was not at all familiar. What a great game it was! I now refer to this evening as the night of laughter and learning. I learned so much in such a brief time about those who participated in the games that I feel like I have new friends. Thank you Bill Grob for hosting this event. We really appreciate you and Ogletree Deakins for your continued support of our chapter. So, if you are like me and are a bit shy about attending social events, I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and attend just one. Whether it be our member social, game night, or any other event, you are bound to make a great new connection, and maybe even meet your new best friend. I’m looking forward to seeing you at this month’s Diversity chapter meeting. Warm Regards, Mary Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles. ~ George Eliot “Member’s Moment” Are you hiring? Hosting a great event? Want to share company news?
