GENERAL MANAGER – MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS POSITION DESCRIPTION Position: General Manager – Marketing and Communications Location: Gold Coast Events Ltd T/A EVENTS MANAGEMENT QUEENSLAND Level 2, 105 Upton Street Bundall, QLD 4217 Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Type of Position: Fixed full-time position until 31 December 2016 with 3-month probation period. Remuneration based on qualifications and experience Position Dimensions: Supervision Exercised: Manager – Marketing Services, Digital Media Officer, Interns (Voluntary), contractors Main contacts: Chief Executive Officer, Chairman, EMQ Staff, Board, and external stakeholders including Tourism and Events Queensland, Event Organisers, State and Local Government, Ministerial advisors, Regional/State/Federal Tourism Bodies, Local/State/National/International Sporting Organisations, Media, Marketing Agencies and Suppliers. Areas of Responsibility: To work under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer to manage the strategic relationships and marketing of the company and its events including but not limited to: Provision of marketing services leadership to the management and staff. Manage the development, implementation and review of event marketing budgets. Develop, activate and evaluate event marketing strategies inclusive of advertising; branding and marketing collateral; charity fundraising; competitions and promotions; cross event promotions; functions; community awareness and engagement; media and public relations; merchandise; digital and social media; tourism marketing; corporate communications and issues management. Manage the strategic and co-operative marketing in interstate and international target markets in collaboration with key stakeholders including Tourism & Events Queensland, Gold Coast Tourism and Tourism Australia. Identify opportunities to raise the profile and grow the events. Oversee the production of all marketing and promotional collateral including advertisements, e-newsletters, websites, publications, and other printed and electronic collateral. Oversee the preparation and distribution of media releases, media copy and other promotional content. Ensure the company is meeting its obligations to event stakeholders and conversely ensure all event stakeholders are meeting their obligations, as detailed in relevant contracts and agreements. Prepare reports, documents and award submissions as required. Liaise with Event Sponsors to develop mutually beneficial strategies and ensure the company is meeting its sponsorship obligations. Liaise with Tourism & Events Queensland and departmental staff on matters related to Government protocols and Ministerial media actions ensuring all Government forms, briefing notes, reports and the like are completed to the highest degree of accuracy Attend to general administration duties including but not restricted to telephone/fax/email management, processing of incoming and outgoing mail, basic book keeping, and filing. Any other duties as directed from time to time. Background and Skills Required: Qualifications & Experience: A recognised degree in marketing, public relations or similar field Experience in a similar role working with and understanding of demands from government agencies and/or national or high performance sports organisations Demonstrated and proven successful experience in a similar role for five or more years Demonstrated experience in designing strategies and campaigns to achieve marketing objectives Demonstrated experience in relationship marketing and well-developed industry networks Demonstrated understanding of the marketing, communications and media industries Experience in effectively communicating with all range of stakeholders face-toface, via phone and online Demonstrated skills in writing and developing content for varied marketing and communication applications Experience in crisis management and dealing with adverse publicity Experience in staff and/or volunteer supervision and training Skills Required: Demonstrated high level computing skills using MS Word, Access and Excel in a Windows and Windows Network environment Persuasive and articulate with exceptional positive communication and presentation skills Demonstrated high level of writing skills for media, presentations, submissions and speeches Demonstrated high level of attention-to-detail Demonstrated understanding of office protocols, especially in relation to respect for authority, privacy and confidentiality, and following directions Demonstrated ability of taking initiative when managing and developing tasks and delegating tasks Demonstrated ability to manage and avoid conflict with staff and volunteer workers Possession of strong organisational and time management skills Hold and maintain a current driver’s license Personal Attributes: Well groomed and presented suitable for the role and functions The ability to think laterally, strategically and realistically Availability to work abnormal hours and travel where required A willingness to “pitch in” where required.
