Job Purpose and Position Overview:
This position-is located at the Winnebago Tribal Health Department. The purpose of this position is to
perform duties that involve transcribing and verifying data from medical records PCC forms in to the PCC
Component of the RPMS system/Electronic Health Record System of the Winnebago Treaty Hospital.

Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribe's core mission, vision and values
Incumbent operates data entry equipment to perform complicated data transcribing/verifying
assignments requiring skilled use of the full keyboard as well as special function keys
Transcribes medical data into computer from a draft form involving patient charts. The data
transcribed by way of computer is highly confidential and incumbent must retain confidentiality at
all times. Incumbent is responsible for data entry of Patient Care Component (PCC) activities
Incumbent enters the component parts of the outpatient and all other medical forms into the PCC
computer system. These include diagnoses, procedures, treatments, physical examinations,
weight, heights, blood pressure, medication, immunizations, skin test and provider of services.
Diagnoses and procedure entry involves interaction with the PCC computer assisted coding
system by selecting the most accurate and descriptive classification code from the International
Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-M)
Retrieves and changes records that are already in the system. Interprets substantive data in the
record in order to determine the specific changes required
Coordinates with the billing functions of the Health Department
Maintain accurate data entry records for the Health Department
Operates I.H.S. RPMS Patient Care Component System (PCC) for data entry into the confidential
database
Knowledge of the DOS and RPMS systems
Knowledge of various database programs and their applications, i.e. Windows Program to include
Access and Excel and the RPMS Q MAN system
Ability to generate reports from various databases, and to merge reports from the various
databases
Compares data entered with source documents or re-enters data, in verification format on screen
to detect errors. Deletes incorrectly entered data and re-enters correct data. Compile, sort, makes
Xerox copies, files, and verify accuracy of data to be entered
Data enters patient visit from PCC visit form into I.H.S. RPMS system, and files PCC forms in
appropriate record
Prepares statistical reports and tracks the data submitted to Aberdeen Area Indian Health
Services used to compile national reports related to Native American Health Issues.
Prepares statistical reports, narrative reports and tracks the data submitted to Nebraska
Department of Health and Human Services used to compile state reports to native American
Health Issues
Prepares statistical reports, narrative reports and tracks the data submitted to Tribal Programs
used to compile Tribal Reports and program planning

Required Qualifications/Skills:

Must possess knowledge of medical terminology
Must possess knowledge of ICD-9 coding
Must possess a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) years specialized
experience in billing and coding
Must have had at least two (2) years of college
Must have knowledge of insurance protocols
Above average typing skills (60) wpm and knowledge of various other office equipment
Operating knowledge of various types of computers, software packages and printers
Maintain strict confidentiality at all times, due to major access to sensitive and confidential client
information contained in their medical records
Ability to pass a federal background check and drug screen
Excellent customer service skills required
Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
Positive attitude
Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision
