This educational and cultural experience will provide an opportunity for personal development while increasing an awareness and understanding of other cultures, their customs and language. Come and experience the “Land of the Danes” and homeland of author and poet Hans Christian Andersen who wrote notable fairytales such as "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Your Dutch may not be fluent, but the experience will last forever. Students participating in the Study Abroad Program are required to: • Be 18 years of age or older, and must be a current WCCCD student • Must complete the Study Abroad application and all paperwork associated with the application process • Must have a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher • Must complete a clear, thoughtful, and carefully prepared essay including reason for applying to the Study Abroad trip to Denmark • Must have completed 20 credit hours or more at WCCCD, and must be working towards a degree or certificate complete Students who complete the application process and are selected through official communication are also responsible for the following: • Apply, be approved, and complete the (50 hours) “Study Abroad Scholarship Work Assignment.” (Please see your home-base campus; his or her designee for details). • Bring the signed Scholarship Work Assignment verification form to your first scheduled Study Abroad orientation. • You will not be reimbursed for your work assignment hours should you choose to opt out of the program. • If you have been accepted to participate in the Study Abroad Program but choose to opt out of the program within THREE WEEKS of departing, you will be held responsible for whatever cost the District will incur to replace you. • Sign the Student Code of Conduct document and all other Study Abroad-related documents provided to you. • You will face academic disciplinary measure should you fail to turn in your essay at the end of the trip. • Possess a current passport that remains valid six months after the end of the Study Abroad trip you are applying for. Obtain a current VISA (if applicable) which can be obtained through the Consulate of the designated country. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not possess a United States Passport, please inquire from the WCCCD International Students’ Office for VISA guidelines. • Purchase all necessary travel insurance. Your insurance must include evacuation. • You must attend ALL Study Abroad orientations or you will forfeit your seat.
