Preventing Amputations | Machine Guarding KEEP FINGERS, HANDS, AND FEET OUT OF POINTS OF OPERATION DO: ● ● ● ● ● Make sure guards are in place and operating properly before starting a machine or tool. Avoid wearing loose clothes or jewelry that could get caught in pinch points. Plan tasks to avoid getting too close to points of operation. Use material handling aids or get helpers to move large and awkward items. Slide or position heavy items carefully into place to avoid points of operation injuries. DON’T: ● Use a machine with a missing or disabled guard. ● Remove, disable, or reach over, around, or under guards. ● Adjust, unjam, repair, or service a machine unless it’s turned off and locked or tagged out. ● Lock or tag out a machine unless you’re an authorized employee. ● Treat any task as too small to require full concentration. ● Fool around or daydream on the job. © Business & Legal Reports, Inc.
