Headteacher’s Newsletter - 2 November 2015
Headteacher’s Update
I hope that everyone had a relaxing half term break. With the end of autumn approaching, our
thoughts turn to Christmas, and you will find a preview of seasonal events taking place at school for
your diary in this newsletter.
On a personal note, I will be handing over the rein(deer)s to Ms Estlea for a short time, while I
spend some time with new baby – due this Wednesday! I will of course be in touch with everyone
here at school and no doubt have some time during the long nights ahead to check my emails!

After a week of campaigning and reading of manifestos, the whole school went to the ballot box just
before half term for this year’s school council elections. The results were announced by Ms Estlea in
an assembly attended by our local parliamentary representative, The Right Honourable Clive Lewis
MP (Norwich South).
Mr Lewis reminded us about the importance of the democratic process. He then opened our first
council meeting and signed the children’s certificates. Mr Lewis was very kind to also invite us to
visit the Palace of Westminster later on in the year.
Our congratulations to the elected Councillors, who will now begin their work to represent their
classes at meetings held every two weeks.
House Points
The House Captains will announce weekly results of our house race in assembly. Below is the
position at the end of the half term: Children can earn house points from their teachers for excellent
class learning, homework and using their social skills to help around the school.

which will be sent by email via the school office this week. Information for your class can now be
found on the school website via Parents – Class Information. Please ask your class teacher in the
first instance, if you have any questions related to class arrangements.
Curriculum Updates
I know how much parents value a broad and balanced curriculum for their children, and although we
are focused on improving standards in the core disciplines of maths and English, teachers will
continue to plan out exciting opportunities for enriching their topics. Here are some of the exciting
learning events taking place this half term:
Year One and Reception:
Year Three:
Year Four:
Year Six:
Whole School:

Teacher clubs will continue into this half term up to December. Attendance at clubs has been
excellent this half term; just a reminder to contact the school office in advance if your child cannot

Spring Term.
Reception Admissions Morning : 16 November
Miss Hughston and Mrs Coy are holding a presentation and tour of Reception classrooms on 16
November at 9.30am. Please pass this information on if you know anyone who would like to find out
more about starting their child at Eaton in September 2016.
Early Years Workshop : 17 November
Parents of Reception and Infant children are invited to attend our presentation on 17 November on
Reading and Writing. This will be led by Mrs Major and Miss Hughston and will explain how we
approach teaching at school and how you can support your child at home in these essential skills.
Further information to follow.
Communication
The Headteacher newsletter now replaces the previous E News & C News, this will be sent out as a
paper copy every fortnight. Useful forms such as medication permission and leave of absence
forms will also be added to the school website for your convenience under the heading ‘office
forms’. The class swimming rota will be also be added to ‘class information’ so you will know in
advance of your child’s turn to swim.
PE Events
We are keen to continue the excellent PE provision we have developed at Eaton, and so we will
again subscribe to and take part in the Norwich Sports Partnership (NSP) events this year. These
events will be led by Mrs Nikki Coxhead our PE Instructor and Mr Ben Anderson our PE Lead
Teacher. Together with curriculum PE and the extended swimming coverage that pupils receive at
