Completions and Production Workover Systems Introduction Baker Hughes is a leader in well completion and intervention solutions that help exploration and production companies maximize the value of their oil and gas assets by optimizing recovery while reducing capital and operating expense. Baker Hughes was founded 100 years ago on a simple, fundamental commitment to help our customers solve their oilfield problems by bringing them the highest quality and best performing products and services. Honoring that commitment and providing flawless execution at the well site continues to distinguish us from our competitors a century later. We believe that integrity is at the heart of our organization and that teamwork leverages individual strengths and contributes to our performance culture. We also believe that learning is never finished and that we can continue to grow and improve—as individuals and as a company—through learning. These are the principles that help guide us in our actions and decisions every day. Delivering unmatched value to our customers by meeting—and sometimes exceeding—their needs and expectations is our ultimate goal. Baker Hughes, a Fortune 500 company and one of the most respected names in the oil and gas service industry, provides best-in-class products, systems and services for every phase of the hydrocarbon life cycle. i ii Introduction Baker Hughes, applying innovation and technology to your workover Baker Hughes workover systems group is a part of the company’s wellbore intervention group and offers a unique combination of products and services that are specifically designed for downhole interventions to reduce cost and increase production. The workover systems group consists of the following product lines: Remedial systems cased holed products production injection packers (PIP™s) Drillstem testing and environment services Inflatable This diverse range of systems gives the workover systems group the opportunity to service customer requirements with the most divergent range of conveyance methods, including drillpipe, threaded pipe, coiled tubing, snubbing pipe, electric wireline, and slickline. The ethic of the workover systems group is based around offering unmatched service and the use of these product lines either jointly or separately to provide our customers with a proven commitment to implement a solution to economically achieve the workover objective. Cased hole products The QUIK Drill™ composite bridge and frac plugs continue to be the most dynamic portfolio in the remedial systems product line. As domestic and international market requirements shift, experience, knowledge, and new technologies are applied to create innovative products. Recent developments include the incorporation of nonmetallic backup systems in some assemblies and the expansion of the HPHT set of tools. The remedial systems product line has also met significant challenges such as the development of the GTV™ LOK-SET™ retrievable bridge plug. The GTV design was qualified to the V0 acceptance criterion, as defined by the API Specification/SO 14310 14310:2001 (E) standard. The knowledge gained during work on this tool has prepared us to tackle similar demands for future products. Inflatable products Baker Hughes is the recognized leader in the manufacture and supply of inflatable products and systems. The versatility of the inflatable element allows tools to be set in the most diverse range of environments, including cased hole, slotted pipe, perforations, screens, and openhole. The exceptional expansion and sealing capabilities of a flexible elastomer element enable these tools to withstand conditions that would be impossible for conventional packing elements. Whether the application is to plug, pack, test, treat, squeeze, or straddle, Baker Hughes can supply an inflatable system to provide an economical and reliable solution. The Blue Whale™, developed for drilling type applications seen in offshore environments, is recognized for its reliability and robust design. When assembled with the GT™ unloader subassembly, it becomes a heavy-duty retrievable bridge plug that allows testing from above and below in cased and open hole. The Blue Whale platform was used to create the permanent Blue Whale bridge plug and the resettable blue whale. The permanent Blue Whale bridge plug provides a more economical alternative in situations when the assembly will be left in the hole. The resettable Blue Whale is well suited for applications that require multiple sets in the same trip. iii iv Alphabetical Product Index Remedial Systems Products and Set-Down Unloader The workover systems line of compression set service packers have been field-proven to be the best tools in the industry. the retrievamatic style service packers have been proven in worldwide applications which call for any type of squeeze cementing operations, casing testing, formation fracturing, and high-pressure acidizing with subsequent testing. The retrievamatic style service packers are full-opening, set-down squeeze packers with piston type hold-down buttons, a three section packing element system, and rocker-type lower slips. Dovetail-type slips are also available on some models. The high performance capabilities of the retrievamatic type packers make them ideal for many types of pressure pumping and surface isolation operations. The compression set service packers have available an array of accessories to aid in field operations. The entire line of compression set packer accessories is designed for maximum performance to compliment the full range of available compression service packers. Retrievamatic Style Service Packer 1 Compression Set Service Packers EA Retrievamatic Service Packer Product Family No. H40705 APPLICATION The industry’s most popular and proven retrievable stimulation and workover packer, the EA™ retrievamatic is used in all types of squeeze cementing, casing testing, formation fracturing, and high-pressure acidizing with subsequent testing. It is a fullopening, set-down packer with piston-type hold-down buttons, actuated by pressure from below and a three-section packing element system. Features/Benefits Large bypass area permits circulation around and through the tool while running in; straight pickup equalizes pressure across hold-down buttons instantly Proven face-seal unloader controls the bypass, eliminating the need for mechanical locks and rotation Bypass running completely through the packer isolates buttons from tubing pressure surges, reducing chance of dulling Hold-down buttons maintain packoff during high-pressure operations from below Proven packing element system Rocker slips set with only 3/4 turn, straight pickup to retrieve RC-2 Hydro-Grip Cementer Product Family No. H40720 APPLICATION The RC-2™ hydro-grip cementer is a set-down packer with hydraulic hold-down pistons. The packer has moderate pressure capabilities suitable for most acidizing, fracturing, and squeeze operations. The packer sets with right-hand rotation and set-down weight. Features/Benefits Large bypass area permits circulation both through and around the tool during run-in Hydraulic hold-down buttons help to hold packer when pressuring from below S Full-Bore Tubing Tester Product Family No. H67205 APPLICATION Designed for use with the retrievamatic type service packer, the S™ full-bore tubing tester is used to pressure test the tubing string for leaks. 2 ea Retrievamatic Service packer Product Family No. H40705 S full-Bore tubing tester Product Family No. H67205 Compression Set Service Packers P-2 Set-Down Unloading Sub Product Family No. H67103 APPLICATION The P-2™ set-down unloading sub is used to equalize tubing annulus pressure when using a set-down packer. A face-type seal prevents communication between the tubing and annulus when the sub is in the closed position; the sub is held open or closed by collet fingers. Since the sub is essentially pressure balanced, normal set-down weight required for operation of the tool run below the sub is sufficient to maintain closed position when run with the proper size tubing. Retrievamatic II Service Packer Product Family No. H40715 (Rocker Slips) Product Family No. H40719 (Dovetail Slips) APPLICATION The Retrievamatic II™ is a compression set, retrievable service packer used for remedial applications where the EA™ retrievamatic service packer is often used. These applications may include squeeze cementing, casing testing, formation fracturing and high-pressure acidizing. The Retrievamatic II retains the industry proven features and advantages of the EA Retrievamatic while incorporating design improvements which will enhance the performance of the packer while lowering the maintenance costs of the tool. Like the EA Retrievamatic, the Retrievamatic II is a full-opening packer with piston-type hold-down buttons actuated by pressure from below and a three-section packing element system. Companion tools such as the S™ tubing tester (product family no. H67205) will be the same as those used with the EA Retrievamatic service packer. p-2 Set-down unloading Sub Product Family No. H67103 Features/Benefits Retains the same features/benefits as the EA Retrievamatic including a cocentric internal bypass, face-seal unloader, hydraulic hold-down buttons, and three-section packing element system Dovetail or rocker type slip designs available according to job requirements Interchangeable parts with the SAP™ tool minimizing spare parts inventory Square shaped key/keyway replaces the dovetail key design increasing life of the mandrel and reduces jamming and breaking of keys Buttress profile grooves on the control segment and body increase the life of the body and control segment Conversion to right-hand or left-hand set possible without additional parts or disassembly of the entire tool Heavy duty unloader and body for use as a hurricane plug Retrievamatic ii with dovetail Slips Product Family No. H40719 Retrievamatic ii with Rocker Slips Product Family No. H40715 3 Compression Set Service Packers Heavy Duty Retrievamatic Service Packer Product Family No. H40710 APPLICATION The Heavy Duty Retrievamatic™ service packer is a high-pressure version of the standard size 43 EA™ Retrievamatic service packer. The heavy duty service packer is run, set and released in the same manner as the standard Retrievamatic service packer and incorporates many of the features of the EA and Retrievamatic II™. The heavy duty comes standard with dovetail type slip configuration and offers the features of a fullopening, compression set packer with button-type hold-downs and built-in unloader seal. The setting mechanism of the heavy duty allows the tool to be easily converted from right-hand to left-hand set (and vice versa) without the need for additional parts. The heavy duty has some unique design features for high-pressure applications. The heavy duty is only available in size 43 (see specification guide matrix on page 5). Big Bore Retrievamatic Service Packer Product Family No. H40712 APPLICATION The Big Bore Retrievamatic service packer is a specially designed version of the standard size 45 EA Retrievamatic service packer. The Big Bore has some of the same features of both the EA and Retrievamatic II service packers. The Big Bore comes standard with the dovetail slip configuration. The dovetail slips of the Big Bore retract below the OD of the tool in the unset position reducing the possibility of the slips “hanging up” during run-in. The setting mechanism of the Big Bore allows the tool to be easily converted from right-hand to left-hand set (and vice versa) without the need for additional parts. In straddle operations, the ideal companion tool for use with the Big Bore is the C™ retrievable bridge plug for shallow applications and the G™ or GT™ LOK-SET™ retrievable bridge plug for deeper or more severe applications. The Big Bore is only available in size 45 (see specification guide matrix on page 5). Features/Benefits Full opening with 2-3/8-in. Surge Valves F™ Test and Stimulation Valve Tubing (Atmospheric Chamber) Surge valves are mechanical and pressure activated accessory tools used to create an under-balance below a retrievable service packer. Typically two surge valves are run in tandem above the retrievable service packer spaced to create an atmospheric chamber between the valves. The surge valves are activated independently. The lower valve is activated to create an instantaneous surge on the perforations for debris and emulsion cleanup. The debris is allowed to settle, then the upper valve is activated to allow flow to surface. Pressure-Activated Stimulation Valve Retrievamatic-Style Service Packer Retrievamatic-Style Service Packer 7 Control Valves/ Surge Valves Model A BackPressure Valve Product Family No. H59904 APPLICATION The Model A™ back-pressure valve provides a means of controlling backflow when either running or pulling a run-in string. Depending on the fluid in the wellbore, a fire and safety hazard is eliminated. Its primary application is in conjunction with a full-bore retrievable service packer and a retrievable bridge plug, or a retrievamatic style service packer and a retrievable bridge plug, to control backflow when moving from a treated zone to straddle a new zone. The flapper valve can be locked in the open position for swab or flow testing. F Test and Stimulation Valve Product Family No. H71402 APPLICATION The F™ test and stimulation valve is a rotationally actuated, quick-opening, fullbore valve. It is used in conjunction with a retrievamatic service packer, for the purpose of creating sudden, high-velocity flow from the formation through the perforations into the tubing. Plugged perforations are cleared and blocking agents in the vicinity of the wellbore are removed. The valve is also applicable in: E Tubing Control Valve Product Family No. H67234 APPLICATION The E ™ tubing control valve is a full-opening valve that can be used above a retrievamatic service packer to isolate a zone from the tubing hydrostatic after squeeze cementing in a low-fluid-level well. Valve opening is accomplished with right-hand rotation, with six and one-half turns at the tool, moving the valve from fully closed to fully open position. Opening or closing can be repeated as often as desired. The valve can also be used as a control valve to prevent flowback while running, moving, or retrieving downhole tools Pressure-Actuated Stimulation Valve Product Family No. H71410 APPLICATION The pressure-actuated stimulation valve is a test and stimulation valve that is actuated by pressure applied to the annulus. This feature makes it especially applicable to operations involving deep or deviated holes where rotation of the tubing or drillpipe proves difficult. It can be used for any operation in which the F test and stimulation valve is used, provided it is possible to pressure the annulus. Tool actuation is effected by pressuring the annulus to 1,000 psi (70.31 kg/cm2). It is the lower valve in the Model A dual surge system (product family no. H71409). model a Backpressure Valve Product Family No. H59904 e tubing control Valve Product Family No. H67234 f test and Stimulation Valve Product Family No. H71402 pressure-actuated Stimulation Valve Product Family No. H71410 Dry testing of perforated intervals that have been cemented off Lowering injection pressures in water injection wells by clearing blocked flow passages and perforations Removal of mud filtrate prior to an acidizing job Testing of a zone without swabbing operations 8 Control Valves/ Surge Valves D Surge Valve System F Circulating Sub Product Family Nos. H71404 and H71403 Product Family No. H67508 APPLICATION The D™ surge valve system consists of the D annulus activated surge valve (product family no. H71404) run as the lower valve and the D tubing activated surge valve (product family no. H71403) run as the upper valve. APPLICATION The F™ circulating sub provides a means of pumping open drain or circulation ports in the tubing by dropping a ball from surface. The sleeve valve is pressure balanced with a variable shear value. The F circulating sub is available in sizes 2-3/8-in. and 2-7/8-in. The valves are run in the closed position with an atmospheric chamber between them. The D surge valve system is run on top of the retrievamatic style service packer which is set above an interval of perforations. When pressure is applied to the annulus, a cutter is activated in the D annulus activated surge valve that breaks a glass disk. The pressure at the perforations is dropped and the surge from the formation cleans out debris. The surge is safely contained in the D tubing activated surge valve. After surging, tubing pressure is applied to actuate the cutter in the D tubing activated surge valve that breaks the glass disk allowing the tubing to be safely circulated. Model A Dual Surge Valve System Features/Benefits Surge is safely contained in tubing High-pressure glass disks No rotation required Full opening Product Family No. H71409 APPLICATION The Model A™ dual surge valve system consists of the Model A upper surge valve (product family no. H71419) spaced above the pressure-actuated stimulation valve (product family no. H71410). Both of the valves are run in the closed position, creating an atmospheric chamber between them. The Model A dual surge valve system is run on top of the retrievamatic service packer that is set above perforations. The pressure-actuated stimulation valve is opened by applied pressure to the annulus. The pressure at the perforations is dropped and the surge from the formation cleans out debris. The Model A upper surge valve safely contains the surge and allows circulation and can be opened by applied tubing pressure which will lock the valve in the open position. f circulating Sub Product Family No. H67508 Features/Benefits Surge is safely contained in tubing No rotation required Valves opened by applied annulus and tubing pressure d Surge Valve System Product Family Nos. The hurricane plug system has proven to provide the strength and versatility required for both emergency evacuations and surface isolations for offshore and land operations. Workover systems hurricane plugs are designed for emergency evacuations in bad weather situations that force a temporary well shutdown, catastrophic rig abandonments, and surface isolation for BOP service repair or replacement. In the event of such an emergency, the hurricane plug system seals off the casing string while the workstring hangs off the bottom of the service packer. The standard hurricane plug system consists of a twinthread safety joint for running, setting, and disconnecting; a retrievamatic style hurricane packer and a rotational equalizing sub with a bypass type blanking plug. This system is retrieved using a twin-thread safety joint overshot. The hurricane plug system is comprised of two sections. The bottom section of the system is a retrievamatic style hurricane plug, which is a full-opening, set-down packer with piston-type hold-down buttons, a three-section packing element system, and rocker-type slips. The mandrel of the packer has heavy-duty connections to accommodate drillpipe connections on the rig floor. The packer also has increased tensile ratings on the mandrel and unloader seal to handle the heavy hanging loads of the drillpipe. In addition, the hurricane plug packer is basically a retrievamatic service packer; it can double as a squeeze tool, saving time and money since it is already on location. The ASAP™ system consists of the hydraulic disconnect for running, setting, and disconnecting; a retrievamatic style hurricane packer and a rotational equalizing sub with ASAP blanking plug. The J™ retrievamatic service packer is ideal for one-trip liner top testing and squeezing when running a liner. Heavy Duty Compression Set Service Packers Hydraulic Disconnect Product Family No. H44194 APPLICATION The hydraulic disconnect provides a means for disconnecting the workstring and leaving it in the well when surface isolation applications are required. The hydraulic disconnect retrieving tool is used to reconnect to the workstring to retrieve it from the well after the operation is complete. The surface isolation applications include BOP testing and repair, emergency hurricane evacuations and short term abandonment. The hydraulic disconnect is run in conjunction with a retrievamatic style service packer and a rotational equalizing sub (product family no. H40790), which comprise the components of the ASAP™ system. Ports in the bottom sub of the hydraulic disconnect allow fill-up of the workstring while running in the hole. At setting depth, the retrievamatic service packer is set with right-hand rotation and set-down weight. The ports in the bottom sub of the hydraulic disconnect are closed when set-down weight is applied to set the retrievamatic. To disconnect from the workstring, tubing pressure is applied while set-down weight is being applied, then picking up the workstring will disconnect it. A tubing pressure drop at the surface indicates that the workstring is free. To reconnect the workstring, simply set straight down into the disconnect. The packer plug converts a permanent packer into a temporary bridge plug and contains a pressure-equalizing feature to facilitate release; no rotation is required. The H™ washover-type retrieving head (product family no. H67771), the same used on the C™ retrievable bridge plug (product family no. H67701), is used to run and retrieve this type packer plug. F Latching-Type Packer Plug Product Family No. H66512 APPLICATION The F™ latching-type packer plug can be run below a retrievable service packer or it can be run by itself. The packer plug converts a permanent packer into a temporary bridge plug and contains a pressure-equalizing feature to facilitate release; however, right-hand rotation is required. The L™ LOK-SET retrieving head (product family no. H67775) is the same as used on the G™ LOK-SET retrievable bridge plug (product family no. H67734) and is used to run and retrieve this type of packer plug. FT Latching-Type Packer Plug Product Family No. H66518 APPLICATION The FT ™ latching-type packer plug is a version of the F latching-type packer plug which can be positively tested from above and below. Current regulations in certain drilling markets require three containment barriers for temporary abandonment of a well. The FT provides one of those barriers and is the only packer plug that can be positively tested from both above and below. The FT is run and retrieved with the LTC™ or the LT-CT™ retrieving heads (product family no. H67778). d-1 and d-2 Latching-type plugs Product Family No. H66511 f Latching-type packer plug Product Family No. H66512a 32 Retrievable Bridge Plugs Combination Bottomhole Assemblies Tubing Tubing Using components from retrievable service packers, retrievable bridge plugs and the accessories can provide an efficient and effective bottomhole assembly to allow for a multitude of pressure pumping operations. (152.4 mm) — between two sets of packing elements. The tool’s retrievamatic style packing element system withstands much greater service pressure and lasts much longer in the hole when compared to standard cup-type wash tools. After individual breakdown, acidizing, or washing, the tool can be moved uphole to treat or test the entire zone. Features/Benefits Large bypass area permits circulation around and through tool while running in–straight pickup to equalize Hold-down buttons maintain packoff during high-pressure operations from below Retrievamatic style packing element system has set more than 400 times, including formation test — in one trip Wash interval spacing adjustable down to 6 in. (152.4 mm) Mandrel plug can be run in place; dropping the plug allows faster run-in (not shown) Retrievamatic style rocker slips set with only 3/4 of a turn-straight pickup to retrieve Right or left-hand set is selected in the field Mechanical Injection Control Valve Product Family No. H71440 APPLICATION The mechanical injection control valve (MICV) is designed for use in conjunction with the service adaptable packer–SAP tool (product family no. H47043) for perforation washing and acidizing. The MICV is used to support the hydrostatic head in the tubing when working in wells with a low fluid level or low reservoir pressure. The MICV is opened to the metering position by setting down weight against the SAP and is closed by straight upward pull. In the closed position, the MICV will hold full tubing hydrostatic pressure. mechanical injection control Valve Product Family No. H71440 Features/Benefits Lower mandrel extension is available to match the mandrel rod of MICV to SAP spacing; it is necessary to match MICV spacing exactly to SAP spacing; the basic tool has 6 in. (152.4 mm) spacing like the SAP Interchangeable and replaceable meter rings control flow through tool Option of left-hand (standard) or right-hand J-slot Mandrel plug for SAP connects directly to MICV lower mandrel 36 Service adaptable packer-Sap tool Product Family No. H47043 S t r a d d l e Tr e a t m e n t To o l s and Accessories C Packing Element Circulating Washer Product Family No. H47042 APPLICATION Using hydraulically operated packing elements rather than cups, the C™ packing element circulating washer has a large bypass area for ease of retrievability and circulation. The C will not swab the well in or draw sand into the casing and allows positive circulation of sand and debris off of the bottom when reversing out. Features/Benefits Large bypass area permits circulation around and through the tool while running in prevents swabbing while retrieving Retrievamatic style packing element system Packing element spacing ensures more complete penetration of washing fluids in short perforation intervals Available extensions enable economical treating of long perforated zones Pressure relief valves direct tubing pressure first to packing elements, then to wash interval. At the desired flow rate, the tubing pressure is always higher than the formation injection pressure as a result of the pressure drop across these valves Service adaptable packer-Sap tool Product Family No. H47042 37 S t r a d d l e Tr e a t m e n t To o l s and Accessories Model A Set-Down Anchor Product Family No. H47052 APPLICATION The Model A™ set-down anchor is used in conjunction with the C™ packing element circulating washer (product family no. H47042). The Model A is used to support the workstring during pressure pumping operations with the C washer. The Model A has a very rugged construction that extends its life for washing operations, but also has a simple construction with a minimum number of working parts. The Model A uses a field-proven rocker-type slip design. The set-down anchor is short and compact for ease of use and minimum tubing movement is required at the tool to engage the anchor. HD Set-Down Anchor Product Family No. H47056 APPLICATION The HD™ set-down anchor is used with the C packing element circulating washer (product family no. H47042). The HD is similar to the Model A set-down anchor in application but has a different setting mechanism. The HD anchor has an L-slot type setting mechanism similar to the L™ retrievamatic service packer and uses many of the same parts. The HD anchor is able to remain in the set position as the workstring is moved up the hole. model a Set-down anchor Product Family No. H47052 Hd Set-down anchor Product Family No. H47056 38 S t r a d d l e Tr e a t m e n t To o l s and Accessories E Circulating Washer With Model A Sliding Sleeve Valve Product Family No. H47016 APPLICATION The E™ circulating washer is a reliable cup-type tool used for washing or acidizing perforations in casing or sand screens, for checking new perforations for injectivity, or to open a void behind casing for more effective gravel packing. The E is a cup-type, straddle tool, incorporating proven washing tool characteristics. Among the more important design features of the E circulating washer are modular construction, which permits rapid change of cup spacing, and the ability to effectively reverse sand and debris off bottom. The Model A sliding sleeve valve is designed to be run above the E circulating washer. The valve opens and closes circulating ports between the tubing and annulus for either spotting wash fluids or draining the tubing when the tool is being retrieved. The valve opens with downward motion and can be locked in the open or closed positions with right-hand rotation. Features/Benefits Large flow area reduces pressure loss range of packer cup spacing allows flexibility Dependable sleeve valve Valve can be locked open or closed Wide e circulating Washer With model a Sliding Sleeve Valve Product Family No. H47016 39 S t r a d d l e Tr e a t m e n t To o l s and Accessories C Injection Control Valve (ICV) Product Family No. H71431 APPLICATION The C™ injection control valve (ICV) was designed for deep well, high-volume displacement service. The sealing surfaces on the control valve are made of a ceramic material. The ceramic material resists seal erosion normally associated with high volume displacement service. Features/Benefits Ceramic valve seal has longer working life performance rating 6,000 psi (41.5 Kpa) and pumping rates up to 4 BPM Improved design resists plugging Saves expensive treating fluids Uses standard seating nipple Can be equalized and retrieved on sandline or slickline High Injection Control Valve (ICV) Product Family No. H71425 APPLICATION The injection control valve (ICV) is used to support the hydrostatic head in the tubing during treating operations in wells with low reservoir pressures. It prevents the loss of expensive treating fluids when moving between intervals or during shut-in periods. The valve is opened by applying pressure down the tubing. The ICV can be run in place or dropped from surface if tubing contains a sufficient fluid level. The valve can be equalized and retrieved on sandline or slickline. Features/Benefits Saves expensive treating fluids Can be set to support up to 4,000 psi (27.8 Kpa) hydrostatic Uses standard seating nipple Can be equalized and retrieved on sandline or slickline c injection control Valve Product Family No. H71431 injection control Valve Product Family No. H71425 40 S t r a d d l e Tr e a t m e n t To o l s and Accessories Unloading Injection Control Valve (UICV) Product Family No. H71427 APPLICATION The unloading injection control valve (UICV) is a tubing mounted downhole fluid regulating valve which enables the C™ packing element circulating washer to function in low fluid level wells. The UICV may also be set up to act as a backflow check valve for backflowing wells in addition to its other functions. The UICV may also be used with the E™ circulating washer because it will unload the pressure on the cups before the tool is moved. Note: Wireline tools cannot be used when UICV is used as a backflow check valve. Features/Benefits The UICV is entirely pressure operated so no tubing movement is required for actuation The UICV uses retreivamatic-type face seals for proven reliability; large flow ports minimize plugging with scale and sand The large 2 in. (50.8 mm) bore (2-7/8-in. size only) allows the passage of wireline tools A-1 Mechanical Collar Locator Product Family No. H59951 APPLICATION The A-1 mechanical collar locator provides a simple means of accurately locating any tool which was run in threaded and coupled casing. The mechanical collar locator features simple construction, large fluid bypass area and compatibility with primary tool operation. Collars can be located as many times as desired by picking up through the collar, then slacking back through it. This movement will give a clear surface indication on the weight indicator as the dogs locate and move through the J-J of the coupling. a-1 mechanical collar Locator Product Family No. H59951 With the TV-10’s increased performance ratings, this bridge plug is the ultimate tool for testing, treating, squeezing, or most any other plugging operation. The TV-10 has been rigorously tested to provide the maximum pressure differential and temperature rating available from a cast iron bridge plug: 10,000 psi (689 bar) (from above and below) at 350°F (177°C). The TV-10 is top venting during drillout. The top venting feature of the plug tallows pressure from below to equalize above the plug before the top slips are removed by mill out. With the top slips intact during pressure equalization, the plug will not be allowed to travel up the hole with pressure build up from lower zones. The backup rings of the TV-10 are specially designed to prevent element extrusion during extreme pressure reversals. Also, the body lock ring traps the setting force created by the setting tool into the packing element to keep it packed-off during high-pressure applications. The TV-10 is designed with a small OD and swab resistant packing element configuration for easy run-in on wireline. The TV-10 can also be set hydraulically as well as on wireline. tV-10 Bridge plug Product Family No. H40183 49 Drillable Products N-1 Bridge Plug Product Family No. H40120 (Wireline Set) Product Family No. H40122 (Mechanical Set) APPLICATION The N-1™ bridge plug is a high performance drillable bridge plug suitable for almost any temporary or permanent plugging operation. The plug is constructed from select materials which provide a combination of strength and drillability. It can be converted to a K-1™ cement retainer by changing out the guide and replacing the bridging plug with the correct valve assembly. Features/Benefits Easily convertible from wireline set to mechanical set by adding a shear screw and changing the upper slip Swab resistant element design allows faster run-in speed Constructed from readily drillable materials to minimize drillout time NC-1 Bridge Plug n-1 mechanical Set Bridge plug Product Family No. H40122 Product Family No. H40121 (Wireline Set) Product Family No. H40123 (Mechanical Set) APPLICATION The NC-1™ bridge plug, a modified “top venting” N-1, is for use primarily in gas wells. The design of the bridge plug allows the upper portion of the body and the bridging plug to be drilled out, permitting pressure equalization across the tool before drilling out the upper slips. A shear ring mechanism is used in the wireline set to minimize the amount of material to be drilled out by the center of the drill bit. Packing Element Selection for N-1, TV-10, S and NC-1 Bridge Plugs APPLICATION The N-1, TV-10™, S™ and NC-1 bridge plugs are available with two different durometer packing elements for oilfield use. For well temperatures up to 225°F (107.22°C), a 70 Hd packing element can be used. For well conditions from 100°F (37.77°C) — 400°F (204.44°C), a 90 Hd packing element is recommended. For geothermal applications (no hydrocarbons present), a special 500°F (260°C) thermal service element is available for most sizes of N-1 bridge plugs. It has been successfully run in steam wells up to 500°F (260°C). 50 nc-1 Wireline Set Bridge plug Product Family No. H40121 Drillable Products N, N-2 and N-3 Tubing Size Bridge Plugs Product Family Nos. The bailer is designed to function in wells with as little as a few hundred feet of fluid. It replaces hydrostatic bailers, which require several thousand feet for operation. Drilling can also be performed with the bailer to remove cement crust or to drillout cast iron plugs and retainers in low fluid-level wells. Depck Tubing Bailer Product Family No. H74749 APPLICATION The Depck tubing bailer is a hydrostatic tool which is used for sand and other casing debris cleanout. The Depck tubing bailer is run on the tubing string use the tubing as the bailer chamber, maximize casing fill cleanout in a single trip. The Depck tubing bailer works by having an overbalanced condition between the tubing and the casing. Without this overbalanced condition the tool will not operate. This overbalanced condition exists from the main valve in the tubing string to the top of the fluid level in the casing. This condition is what creates the hydrostatic pressure which is necessary for the cleanout operation. H69803 and H69804 APPLICATION The B-2™ and B-3™ tubing anchor catchers perform two important functions: (1) anchors the tubing string; and (2) catches the tubing if it should part. Unlike most anchor catchers, which are set as tubing anchors and rely upon movement of the parted tubing string to set them as catchers, the B-2 and B-3 are simultaneously set in anchoring and catching positions at all times. When set with proper tension to overcome both breathing and buckling, the anchor catcher effectively cuts operating costs, excessive rod, tubing, and casing wear and the number of resulting pulling jobs. Elimination of breathing and buckling also increases production by lengthening the effective stroke of the pump, thereby increasing volumetric efficiency. Features/Benefits Vertical movement of the tubing during the pump cycle at the anchor is prevented by the slips; if the tubing happens to part, it is caught by the tubing anchor before it falls The tension applied to the tubing when the anchor is set will not increase which keeps tubing stress at safe levels The anchor will protect the tubing from impact of parted rods and cyclic stress caused by pump pounding and breathing The cone of the anchor does not move in relation to the slips once the anchor catcher is set which prevents loading between the anchoring and catching positions Each slip contains two sets of directional wickers: one set is designed to prevent upward movement while the other prevents downward movement Variable shear pin design permits emergency release at preselected loads with an upward pull when normal release is impossible The drag springs are constructed of stainless steel specially designed with a low-stress value to minimize breaking under corrosive conditions B-2 and B-3 tubing anchor catchers Product Family Nos. Draining is accomplished by merely pressuring the tubing to shift the sleeve and open the drain ports. Mechanical manipulations of the tubing string are not required to open the pressure relief sub. When the pressure relief sub is used in conjunction with a tubing anchor catcher and it becomes necessary to shear the shear pins to release it, draining the tubing fluid reduces the required tubing strength by the amount of the fluid load in the tubing. Since the sleeve completely uncovers the drain ports in the body, effective fluid cutting damage to the sub cannot occur. The tools can be used in applications such as packer milling, window milling, junk milling, or during designated clean out runs. The tool is particularly effective when run in conjunction with other special wellbore cleaning tools such as the ULTRA-CLEAN™ casing scraper and ULTRA-CLEAN brush sub. The Grabitz magnets are also used to help clean metal debris such as cuttings or milling debris from casing collars, horizontal wellbores, and subsea BOP stacks. The tools can also be used in wells with low annular velocities, wells that contain fluids with poor carrying capacities and in wells where circulation is a problem. The Grabitz magnets are used as part of the Custodian™ wellbore cleaning system which also contains the VACS™ system, Multi-Task Wellbore Filter™, shear type swivel and circulation valve, BOP jet sub, Clean Bore Riser Brush™, ULTRA-CLEAN casing scraper, inflow test packer, and ULTRA-CLEAN brush sub to form a complete one-trip wellbore cleaning system. The Grabitz downhole magnets can be incorporated in a BHA as needed depending on application. For packer milling jobs the tool should be placed a joint above the top boot basket; for collection of perforating gun debris the tool should be placed below the perforating guns; for cleanout runs the tool should be placed above scrapers and brushes. The magnets of the Grabitz downhole tools are very strong and can affect the operation of computers, watches and pacemakers. It is recommended to not let anyone within 2 feet of a tool that is wearing a pacemaker. Caution should also be used as the strength of the magnets can easily cause hands or fingers to be mashed or trapped between the magnets and loose objects. Features/Benefits Collects cuttings downhole and retrieves them to surface Easily cleaned Easily disassembled for inspection One-piece full strength mandrel Grabitz magnets Product Family No. H13101 77 General Remedial Equipment and Accessories Clean Bore Riser Brush and Boot Basket Product Family No. H13014 APPLICATION The Baker Hughes clean bore riser brush and boot basket is designed to clean the inside diameter (ID) of drilling and production riser systems. The tool is used to brush and wipe mud residue, cement, or other debris from the riser inside wall and recover them to surface. Recovery is done with a boot basket that is designed in with the brush/wiper assembly and built on a mandrel that is full drill pipe strength. The tool can be rotated and short tripped with the Baker Hughes blow out preventer (BOP), jet sub and Multi-Task Wellbore Filter™. It can also be run as part of the Baker Hughes Custodian™ wellbore cleaning system along with super downhole magnets, shear type circulation valve and swivel, ULTRA-CLEAN™ casing scrapers, VACS™ tool, Multi-Task Wellbore Filter, and BOP jet sub. Typically the clean bore riser brush is picked up with the BOP jet sub and surface dressed Multi-Task Wellbore Filter, which make up the upper cleanout assembly. The upper assembly is then short tripped with the lower string of cleanup tools in the hole. It is spaced so the BOP, wellhead and riser areas are cleaned while the lower string is cleaning the area where the completion packer is to be set. Once the BOPs have been jetted the upper clean out assembly is pulled out of the hole. The lower assembly is then run back in the hole and the clean-up program can continue. The upper clean-up assembly can also be short tripped after the lower clean-up has been done and is being pulled out of the hole. It is designed to seek out junk, collect it, then carry it to surface. It is a modular tool and can be run in conjunction with Baker Hughes super downhole magnets, bits, casing scrapers, stabilizers, etc. The standard filtration media on The Multi-Task Wellbore Filter is field-proven BAKERWELD™ stainless steel screen, however slotted or perforated liners or a combination of these, can also be utilized. Debris capacity can be optimized by simply changing the length of screen and adding an extension to the mandrel. It is primarily for use in pre completion stages of the well’s construction, but can be run anytime the wellbore has become contaminated with debris, such as after a milling operation. The Multi-Task Wellbore Filter will help prevent the common problems associated with stuck completions or liner equipment due to unexpected debris in hole. To operate the tool simply make up in the string, verify bypass operation and run-in-hole (RIH). When RIH the tool will act as a boot basket allowing collection of large debris using fluid flow as it passes through the tool. When pulling-out-of-hole, the bypass is closed and the tool now diverts fluid through the filter media capturing the debris. To clean out debris at surface, simply unlock the clean out windows at bottom of tool and remove debris. Features/Benefits Acts as boot basket collecting debris during run in Collects debris from wellbore during run in, then filters wellbore fluid when pulling out of hole Optional stainless steel brushes can be run below non-rotating cups, allowing brushing and filtering with a single tool Filter mechanism can be slotted liner or BAKERWELD screen with variable gauge to suit all fluids and debris types Large bypass area for fast run in Large clean out windows located at bottom of tool for easy cleanout of debris Rigid with full tensile and torsional ratings through tool Drillpipe connections Modular tool No balls or darts required to operate Debris capacity can be increased by adding extensions to mandrel and screen Specification Guide Casing Size Weight in. mm lb/ft kg/m 7 177.8 23.0-32.0 368.4-512.6 7 177.8 35.0-42.7 560.6-684.0 7-5/8 193.7 26.4-33.7 422.9-539.8 7-5/8 193.7 39.0-47.1 624.7-754.5 9-5/8 244.5 36.0-53.5 576.7-857.0 10-3/4 273.0 45.5-71.1 728.8-1138.9 multi-task Wellbore filter Product Family No. H13015 79 General Remedial Equipment and Accessories Shear Type Circulation Valve and Swivel Product Family No. H14046 APPLICATION The shear type circulation valve and swivel (STCVS) is normally used to locate at a known point such as a liner top, shear down to put the tool in the swivel/circulate mode, and open ports for high volume circulation at the tool. The STCVS has two primary positions. In the stroked open position it allows fluid flow and torque to be fully transmitted through the tool. In the closed, or sheared position, it acts as a swivel and concurrently provides ports for high volume circulation at the tool. The tool can even be used in applications where polishing a PBR/liner top or drilling cement is required. For cement drilling applications the shear activation can be set to a higher value, if needed. The shear type swivel and circulation valves are available with a 7-3/8 in. (187.3 mm) OD with NC 50 connections and 5.00 in. (127 mm) OD with NC 38 connections. The tool can be run in conjunction with polishing mills, dress off tools, Multi-Task Wellbore Filter™, super downhole magnets, VACS™, ULTRA-CLEAN™ casing scraper and/or jetting subs. The primary feature of the STCVS is the ability to shear down and rotate only above the tool, while rotation below the tool is prevented. When weight is applied to put the tool in the closed position, it also opens ports in the tool allowing high volume circulation uphole through the STCVS. Straight pickup will close the ports, restoring positive circulation through the tool and allowing rotation of the string below the tool to take place again. This procedure can be repeated as needed. Features/Benefits Allows for rotation of entire string or only above the tool Allows for positive circulation at the tool or all the way through the string below Tool can be run as part of a complete wellbore clean up system No drop balls or darts needed Allows milling or drilling with tool in string to take place The tool can be shifted from stroked open to closed position multiple times Shear type circulation Valve and Swivel Product Family No. H14046 80 General Remedial Equipment and Accessories BOP Jet Sub Product Family No. H14068 APPLICATION The BOP (wellhead blowout preventer) jet sub was developed to wash debris and clean out the BOP, risers, wellhead area and casing, and tubing anchors. The tool incorporates several nozzles that provide a hydraulic jetting force. Circulation through the jet sub is possible by means of a piston held in place with shear screws preventing flow through the nozzles. This enables the BOP jet sub to remain inactive until other tool operation has been completed. Other options that can be run with the BOP jet sub are Multi-Task Wellbore Filter™, ULTRA-CLEAN™ casing scraper, super downhole magnets, shear type circulation valve, and swivel and the VACS™ tool to form a onetrip well cleaning system. When the operation of other tools has been completed, a restriction plug is dropped from surface. Once the restriction is inside the piston, hydraulic pressure dropped through the piston provides the force needed to shear the shear screws. The piston will be pushed below the nozzles so that a majority of the wellbore fluid will be pumped through the BOP jet sub nozzles. The restriction plug includes a carbide nozzle so that fluid can still be pumped to the bottom of the workstring. The restriction plug contains an internal fishing neck so it can be retrieved by wireline if necessary. The BOP jet sub is positioned in the workstring so that when the workstring reaches total depth the BOP jet sub will be below the BOP. At this time other work can take place with normal circulation through the workstring. When it is time to clean the BOP the restriction plug must be dropped from surface. Pump pressure can be applied to the piston to shear the shear screws. The piston will now move down below the jetting nozzles allowing for circulation through the nozzles. The BOP, riser or other areas may now be cleaned. Features/Benefits Screw in jetting nozzles that can easily be changed to adapt to pump capacity Allows full flow Simple design and operation Can lie dormant in the drill string until activated or short tripped with Bop Jet Sub Product Family No. H14068 restriction plug Balanced piston will not open prematurely 81 General Remedial Equipment and Accessories ULTRA-CLEAN Casing Scraper Product Family No. H16107 APPLICATION The non-rotating/rotating casing scraper is used to remove mud or cement sheath, perforation burs, rust, mill scale, paraffin, and similar substances from the casing internal diameter (ID). This is especially important in pre completion stages where tight tolerance equipment will be run. These scrapers are also a very effective component of the BHA when making gauge runs. Other accessories that can be run with it would be Multi-Task Wellbore Filter™, super downhole magnets, VACS™, MF™ circulating tool, jet subs, mills, or bits. One of the key benefits to this tool is the option to run it in the rotating or non-rotating mode. When in the non-rotating mode, the blades and optional brushes remain stationary and the pipe can be rotated for long periods while circulating to clean the wellbore, without the worry of wear to the casing ID. When in the non-rotating mode, should the scraper become stuck, straight overpull will shear a ring and allow the safety clutch to engage, putting the scraper in the rotating mode and allowing it to be worked free using torque, overpull, circulation, and jarring. Stainless steel brushes are also an option with the ULTRA-CLEAN™ casing scraper. The brushes are installed above the scraper blades, to scrape then brush the casing ID during run in. The tool has a rugged design and contains no external bolts that could work loose under extreme conditions. For this reason the ULTRA-CLEAN casing scraper is recommended for use when drilling cement on the clean out run. Features/Benefits Non-rotating mode eliminates risk of damaging or wearing casing when rotating drill string Scraper can be dressed in rotating or non-rotating modes, by simply relocating a shear ring No bolts, clamps or threads that can work loose and allow blades to be left in the hole Non-rotating cylindrical brush may be installed above scraper blades to optimize performance by allowing scraping then brushing in one run Safety clutch allows scraper to go from rotating to non-rotating mode with overpull, should the tool ever become stuck, allowing it to be worked free; should the tool ever have to be washed over, the clutch will also keep the tool components from spinning Hard metal applied to scraping edges on blades to provide endurance and maximum service Spring mounted blades provide 360o contact with the casing ID Shims are also available to keep the tool centralized in deviated wells, when centralizer are not run above/below the ULTRA-CLEAN casing scraper SpecificationS Guide Casing OD mm lb/ft kg/m 7 177.8 17-38 25.3-56.5 7-5/8 193.7 9-5/8 244.5 32-53.5 10-3/4 273.0 32.75-71.1 48.7-105.8 13-3/8 339.7 54.5-92.0 81.1-136.9 In development Note: Other sizes available on request 82 Casing Weight in. 47.6-79.6 uLtRa-cLean casing Scraper Product Family No. H16107 General Remedial Equipment and Accessories ULTRA-CLEAN Brush Tool Product Family No. H16108 APPLICATION The ULTRA-CLEAN™ brush tool from Baker Hughes is used to brush and clean the inside diameter (ID) of casing. It is designed to remove scale, rust, mud residue, and any other particles of debris that might be brushed from the casing ID. The tool can be run by itself or as an integral piece of the Custodian wellbore cleaning system with the ULTRA-CLEAN casing scraper, Multi-Task Wellbore Filter™, shear type swivel and circulation valve, super downhole magnets, VACS™ tool, BOP jet sub, and clean bore riser brush. The ULTRA-CLEAN brush tool features self-centering, non-rotational stabilizers to keep the nonrotating brush sleeve centered in the hole, preventing wear or damage to the casing. This ensures 360o brush coverage and eliminates uneven brush wear while allowing for rotation of the heavyduty main mandrel in straight and high angle holes. Another benefit of the tool is a special safety clutch that can be activated should the stabilizers or brush sleeve ever get stuck. This will allow torque to be transferred to the entire tool for working it free or washover contingencies should it ever become necessary. The tool is designed with ample room to allow for bypass of debris through the special spring steel brushes and stabilizers. The tool is normally run in the same trip as the wellbore cleanup tools, eliminating the need for a designated run with a retrievable packer. A negative test is completed by displacing fluid in the workstring with a lighter weight fluid than is in the remainder of the wellbore. A polished bore receptacle (PBR) polishing mill and liner dress off mill can be run below the ITP as a locator. The wellbore test packer is set by downward force on the liner top, closing the bypass and expanding the elements on the wellbore test packer. Annulus pressure (500 psi – 1,000 psi [34 bar – 68 bar]) is applied to verify packing elements are working properly. After a successful element test, the pressure is bled to zero and the packer is picked up off the liner top and the bypass is opened. A precalculated volume of lighter fluid is pumped down the workstring to achieve a desired under-balance. With back pressure held in the workstring, the packer is lowered to the liner top and reset. Workstring pressure is bled off to zero in 500 psi (34 bar) increments. The workstring is then observed for pressure increases denoting a leaking liner lap. This configuration permits well control through the drill string while equalizing from below the Blue Whale. The LT™ retrieving head is used to run, set and retrieve the bridge plug. The bonded seal in the LT retrieving head seals on the unloader of the GT to prevent communication between the tubing and the annulus. When the retrieving head is made up to the bridge plug, the unloader is open and the Blue Whale can be set with pressure in the drill string. Once the element is inflated, it is possible to test from above and below the Blue Whale before releasing the LT retrieving head from the Blue Whale retrievable bridge plug. Features/Benefits One trip to set and release the bridge plug One trip to deflate and retrieve the bridge plug Test from above and below capability Balanced unloader sleeve ensures easy, safe pressure equalization and controls fluid flow through the bridge plug while running in Unloader seal design prevents debris from falling inside the Blue Whale that could complicate retrieval Well control through the drill string can be maintained while equalizing pressure from below the plug Blue Whale Retrievable Bridge plug Product Family No. H30045 93 Blue Whale ISP Blue Whale Permanent Bridge Plug Product Family No. H30048 APPLICATION The permanent Blue Whale™ bridge plug is a simplified version of the Blue Whale inflatable service packer (ISP). The permanent Blue Whale bridge plug was developed to address the increasing demand for permanent inflatable solutions deployed on large diameter drill pipe. The permanent Blue Whale bridge plug is an inflatable bridge plug that packs off and anchors to provide zonal isolation in openhole and cased-hole applications. The well bore seal and anchor are provided by an inflatable packing element that is set by pumping fluid down the tubing string. Because the inflatable element is set with pump pressure, tubing weight is not required to set the tool, so it can be run shallow and in other applications where tubing weight is not available at the tool. Because of the large expansion capabilities of the inflatable element, the tool can be run through well bore restrictions and or set in washed out sections of well bore. The tool is also suited for soft formations and older/deteriorated casing as well as fiberglass casing because its large contact area with the side of the hole results in lower unit loading. Features/Benefits Components parts have been designed to have higher tensile and torque capabilities Uses only 103.25 in. long inflatable element for a larger seal area and greater anchoring capabilities Thru-tubing style poppet valve and delayed opening valve (DOV) are integrated into the design to enhance reliability and performance Shear pinned bottom sub and bottom guide prevent wadding up while deploying the permanent Blue Whale bridge plug through tight restrictions and long horizontal laterals All metal components of the chassis are NACE approved for H2S service Easy rotational disconnect does not require accessory tools Designed for extended reach horizontal abandonment Blue Whale permanent Bridge plug Product Family No. H30048 94 Blue Whale ISP Blue Whale ISP Sample Applications Inflatable Service Packer For Shoe Test and Squeeze 1) Set Packer, Test Shoe 2) Spot Cement to Tool 3) Squeeze Cement 4) Reverse Out 3) Drill Cement, Circulate Out Sand 4) Equalize, Release, and Retrieve RBP Retrievable Bridge Plug (RBP) in Openhole 1) Set RBP, Spot Sand Plug 2) Close Pipe Rams, Squeeze Cement 95 Blue Whale ISP Inflatable Service Packer for Riser Change 1) Set RBP, Disconnect 2) Pull Drilling Riser and Sub Sea BOP 3) Run Production Riser 4) Equalize, Release, and Retrieve RBP 3) Test Drilling Liner 4) Test Liner Top Resettable Blue Whale ISP for Wellbore Integrity Test 1) Test Riser 96 2) Test BOPs and Wellhead PIP Packers Single Set PIP/Resettable Pup Joint The single set production injection packer (PIP™) is a retrievable, inflatable packer that may be run on drillpipe, threaded tubing, or coiled tubing. Pup joint Pup Joint Single Set PIP™ PIP Cement Retainer Kit Non-Rotating Tailpipe P™ Pressure-Actuated Circulating Sleeve Single Set PIP Single Set PIP 105 106 PIP Accessories Fill-Up Sub Product Family No. H30098 APPLICATION The fill-up sub allows filling of the run-in string and removes any chance of prematurely inflating a bull plugged inflatable bridge plug. A 1-in. (25.4-mm) side port in the sub allows the run-in string to communicate with the annulus. The side port is shut off by dropping a ball in the run-in string, allowing pressurization of the string and setting of the inflatable bridge plug. The run-in string will drain through the three 1/2-in. (12.7-mm) inflation holes while the drop ball is retrieved in the fill-up sub with the run-in string. Fill-Up Valve Product Family No. H30304 APPLICATION The fill-up valve is designed to allow annulus fluids to enter and fill the tubing as it is lowered into the wellbore. By equalizing tubing and annulus pressure, the fill-up valve eliminates problems associated with hydrostatic pressure differentials. The valve automatically opens with 25 psi (1.7 bar) annulus overbalance and closes once the pressure is equalized. The fill up valve is permanently latched into the closed position with 400 psi (27.5 bar) applied tubbing pressure. fill-up Sub Product Family No. H30098 fill-up Valve Product Family No. H30304 107 PIP Accessories Hydraulic Release Running Tool (HRRT) Product Family No. H30025 APPLICATION The hydraulic release running tool (HRRT) is normally used as a running tool for the PIP™ retrievable bridge plug. The HRRT allows the release of the tubing from the bridge plug by applying pressure rather than rotating the tubing string. This can be an advantage in deviated/horizontal holes or in any other situation where tubing manipulation is difficult. The HRRT consists of two assemblies — the lug nipple and the hydraulic disconnect. Features/Benefits Allows disconnecting from bridge plug without rotation the PIP inflation pressure Lug nipple also has a ball seat to provide secondary means of disconnecting Bridge plug is retrieved using the standard method with a modified J™ coupling overshot Can be used with other compatible tools as an emergency disconnect Controls On-Off Connectors (High Performance Series) Product Family Nos. The J circulating valve is a simple lug and jay slot mechanism with a left-turn opening sequence. Shear pins prevent premature opening while running in the hole. B Bar/Ball Actuated Circulating Sleeve Product Family No. H30055 APPLICATION The B™ bar/ball actuated circulating sleeve is used as a means of opening the tubing to the annulus. The shear pinned inner sleeve can be driven open by a wireline sinker bar or pumped open with a ball. The bar/ball sleeve is occasionally used between two PIP™s when used as a straddle tool. P Pressure-Actuated Circulating Sleeve Product Family No. H30055 APPLICATION The P™ pressure-actuated circulating sleeve is used as a means of opening the tubing to the annulus. The shear pinned outer sleeve is displaced once the predetermined opening pressure is applied. The P sleeve does not require the aid of a wireline sinker bar or ball such as the B bar/ball sleeve does. The P sleeve is commonly used between two PIPs when used as a straddle tool. B Bar/Ball actuated circulating Sleeve Product Family No. H30055 p pressure-actuated circulating Sleeve Product Family No. H30055 J circulating Valve Product Family No. H30050 109 PIP Accessories PIP Cement Retainer Kit Product Family No. H30087 APPLICATION The PIP™ cement retainer kit can be run with a permanent inflatable bridge plug (PIBP) (product family no. H30073) or a standard production injection packer (PIP)(product family no. H30001), to convert either of them to a permanent cement retainer for cased-hole or openhole applications. Two opposing flapper valves are held open by the inner mandrel while the tool is run to setting depth. After the Inflatable PIP or PIBP is set, cement can be bull-headed below the set tool or spotted by incorporating the use of a J™ circulating valve (product family no. H30050). Once cementing operations are complete, the run-in string is disconnected from the PIP cement retainer kit by either applying tension for the pull-release version or by applying right-hand rotation for the rotational-release version. In either case, the inner mandrel is pulled from the PIP cement retainer kit and the opposing flapper valves spring closed, allowing the PIP cement retainer kit to hold pressure from both above and below. Features/Benefits This accessory tool converts a standard production injection packer (PIP) or permanent inflatable bridge plug (PIBP) into a permanent cement retainer It can be used in cased-hole or openhole applications Available in pull-release or rotational-release versions to offer a “fit-for-purpose” solution for the given application Spring-loaded opposing flapper valves ensure that pressure can be held from both above and below Rotational-release version allows the spotting of cement when run in conjunction with a J circulating valve (Rotational-Release) (pull-Release) pip cement Retainer Kit Product Family No. H30087 Specification Guide pip cement Retainer Kit OD Type Rotational Pull-Release 110 Tensile Strength ID in. mm in. mm 5.00 127 1.25 32 4.00 102 .957 24 5.00 127 1.25 32 3.875 98 .957 24 lb 150,000 200,000 Burst Temperature Rating Collapse Unbalanced Area psi bar psi bar °F °C in.2 7,500 517 7,400 510 300 149 1.21 6,000 414 6,100 421 7,500 517 7,400 510 6,000 414 6,100 421 Tensile capacity of pull-release option is determined by the shear pin setting. 300 149 Tool Joint Box and Pin 2.875 in. EU 8 Rd PIP Options Delayed Opening Valve The delayed opening valve prevents the element from being prematurely inflated when fluid is circulated down the tubing or when the tubing is filled in a low fluid level well. Pull Release Subassembly Standard release requires right-hand rotation which releases the left-hand thread release coupling. Slight tension moves the mandrel into the deflate position while the travel is controlled by the bumper sub housing. A pull release version is also available which requires tension to be applied to the workstring in order to shear the preset shear pins. This option includes a shock absorber inside the bumper sub housing which cushions and limits the mandrel travel to the deflate position. Not recommended for use where the tubing must be tensioned to operate other downhole equipment. Ball and Seat plug The ball and seat plug is used when the tubing is filled with well fluids while running in or when circulating or spotting of fluid is required prior to setting the packer. Solid plug When using a solid plug, a fill-up sub or fill-up valve is used to fill the tubing before setting the packer. 111 PIP Options Non-Rotating Tailpipe When two or more PIP™ tools are run in the tool string, it may be undesirable to release them all at the same time. Excessive torque may be required to turn all mandrels at once or the pressure imbalance in the hole may make it desirable to release one tool at a time. The no-turn tailpipe assembly allows the top tool to be rotationally released and deflated prior to rotating the next tool. When tools are run in a straddle configuration and fluid is injected between them, a large force can be created that tends to push the tools apart. The no-turn tailpipe is connected to the element which is capable of withstanding a larger separating force than that of the PIP mandrel. The no-turn tailpipe, therefore, gives a straddle section a higher pressure rating. Shear Pinned Bottom Sub Shear pinned Bottom Sub non-Rotating tailpipe 112 A special shear pinned bottom sub can be adapted to any size PIP chassis for wellbores that contain close tolerance restrictions or in horizontal applications where contact forces may cause wadding of the element. The element is slightly tensioned by the shear pinned bottom sub which allows the element to safely pass through tight spots or withstand the contact force as the element is being pushed around the bend of a horizontal wellbore. The shear pins are activated upon inflation of the element as this drawing action improves the expansion capability of the tool. PIP Options Element Latch System (ELS) Product Family No. H30043 APPLICATION The element latch system (ELS) was developed to allow standard production injection packer (PIP™) tools to be run further into the well, in either cased-hole or openhole applications, after being released from the initial set position. The current stand-alone design of the PIP tools may sometimes cause the elements to wad-up as they encounter frictional resistance or restrictions. The design of the element latch system overcomes this obstacle by latching the bottom sleeve of the element to the lower end of the mandrel, thus allowing the element to be pulled through the tight spot. Features/Benefits The element latch system does not interfere with the inflation or deflation mechanics of the standard PIP tools Allows the standard PIP tools to be advanced further into the well after being released from the initial set position Prevents the inflatable element from wadding up by transmitting all frictional and contact forces to the bottom sleeve of the element Innovative latch design allows eventual disengagement of the latch thread, thus allowing simple retrieval if required Compatible with most standard 2.5 in.
