One of the biggest carousels enjoyed by both children and adults will be set up on the central Republic Square. After Madrid, Paris or Antwerp, Pilsen is going to be the seventh place where the magical manage of French artists François Delarozière will be presented. 17th January 2015 The Opening Ceremony of the City For the coronation ceremony of Pilsen as the European Capital of Culture, the organizers are planning an outstanding opening ceremony in public area. The main attraction of the evening full of music, images, excitement and emotions will be a unique performance of world-famous tightrope walker David Dimitri. The celebrations will consequently spread from the central square to the whole city. January – November 2015 Le Cirque Nouveau Season New circus is accompanying the whole programme of the year 201. The world´s leading new circus ensembles will present their art one by one. Pilsen will host top performers and acrobats from France, Italy, Spain, Canada and Switzerland. Each of nine ensembles will perform several times to satisfy the audience. During summer, there will be “Circus Fair” travelling around the city. A huge part of the city centre will become a historical military camp-site. Pilsen will be flooded by military vehicles. The celebrations will be supplemented by a rich cultural programme. Lynyr Skynyrd, a famous American band, will play in Pilsen on 1st May 2015. 29th June – 30th August 2015 9 Weeks of Baroque Nine venues with a spectacular Baroque architecture will be revived by concerts, theatre and fine art for 9 weeks. Jiří Trnka Studio (17th January – 10th May 2015) The very first profile exhibition of the work of Pilsen – born, world-famous puppetmaker and artist Jiří Trnka. The exhibition Jiří Trnka Studio is being prepared by the Pilsen Municipal Gallery. A family collection of drawings, sculptures, puppets and dioramas will be completed by artefacts provided by the National Gallery and other partners. Trnka´s Garden 2 (26th February – 24th May 2015) An interactive exposition encompassing the form of art exhibition, theatre and animated film will drag visitors into the plot of Jiří Trnka’s book for children called “The Garden”. Gottfried Lindauer (5th May – 20th September 2015) The invaluable colletion of 40 Maori portraits by a Pilsen-born artist Gottfried Lidnauaer is considered to be a national treasure by the New Zealand inhabitants. Ladislav Sutnar (all the 2015 round) A series of exhibitions of Pilsen-born designer Ladislav Sutnar will introduce the work of world-recognized founder of modern design in a wider context. The Baroque in West Bohemia (27th October 2015 – 13th March 2016) This unique exhibition in the West Bohemian Gallery is devoted to the Baroque art, history and cultural heritage of the Pilsen region. Live music in Pilsner pubs and bars As a part of the European Capital of Culture programme, live music will play in chosen pubs and bars in Pilsen from Wednesday to Sunday. Adolf Loos interiors in Pilsen Adolf Loos is an important personality of the modern architecture of 20th century who designed more than a dozen of apartment interiors in Pilsen. Comparing the number of Loos realizations, Pilsen could even compete with Vienna. In 2015 a unique guided tour including minimally two renewed and furnished interiors will open to the public. Art in public space It doesn’t matter it is spring, summer, autumn or winter, in 2015 you will meet art everywhere. Finále Plzeň (26th April – 2nd May 2015) The Finále Plzeň film festival is an annual retrospective of Czech cinematography and a competition of Czech and Slovakian feature-length live-action or animated films, documentaries and TV formats. Liberation Festival (1st – 6th May 2015) The traditional celebration of the liberation of Pilsen by the US army in May 1945 which takes place every year has a lot to offer, including meetings with Second World War veterans, memorial acts, the convoy of historical military vehicles and rich cultural and military programmes. International Folklore Festival CIOFF (3rd – 7th June 2015) Czech and international folklore groups play music and dance in the city centre. History Weekend (12th – 14th June 2015) The city centre will change into a traditional draft fair which is crowded by swordsmen, jugglers and other artists. An evening parade of ghosts and fairy tale characters is also a part of the event. Vivid Street (July – August 2015) During the summer months the city centre comes alive with multi-genre festival which offers concerts, theatre performances and various events for the whole family. Pilsner Fest (3rd October 2015) The traditional celebration of beer annually attracts tens of thousands of visitors by more than its rich music programme into the facilities of Pilsner Urquell Brewery. Jazz Without Borders (October – December 2015) The international music project JAZZ WITHOUT BORDERS belongs to the traditional events in the city.Amateur and professional jazz bands and musiciansfrom the Czech and German region as well as the world´s top artists participate. The main part of the festival full of concerts and events is concentrated into several days at the end of October and beginning of November but various jazz concerts may take place freely all year round.
