Navy, Marine Corps Aviation Operations
•
The US Navy’s vision is to control the seas, to assure access worldwide, and
to project power beyond the sea
– Navy aviation operations center around the aircraft carriers but with many shorebased units
– USMC aviation rapidly deploys both aboard amphibious assault aircraft carriers and
at shore-based locations

Mainframe CASS Status
• In Sustainment Phase - Oldest stations now 18 years old
(planned 20-year life cycle)
• Seven Year PBL awarded to LMSTS in November 2008
– Support covered until November 2015
• Major changes in process
– Developing a replacement for CNI assets with greater capability –
CNIAS
– USN having battery problems – life limited solution in work
• Will begin to replace mainframe CASS with:
– RTCASS in 2009
– eCASS in 2016

Mainframe CASS Modernization
• In 2016, early CASS stations will be 25 years old
– Must address obsolescence while inserting technology to satisfy
emerging weapon system test requirements & reduce Total Ownership
Costs
– Fewer stations required
• Mainframe CASS Modernization called “eCASS” – a new test
system
• Leverage RTCASS, ARGCS ACTD and other test technology
developments
• TPSs will be transportable among eCASS, RTCASS and Mainframe
