The SJCE aims to become a multidisciplinary forum for the presentation of original contributions and the exchange of knowledge in the broad field of civil engineering. The Journal covers topics in Architecture and Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Water and Sanitary Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Surveying and Geodesy. The editors of the SJCE do not wish to restrict the topics suitable for publication, but would suggest some guidelines. Submitted material should report on original work which may cover either scientific or technological developments. Interdisciplinary contributions covering the economic or environmental aspects of civil engineering are also welcomed. It is hoped that emphasis will be placed on specific aspects of a particular field and avoid generalisations. Slovak University of Technology Bratislava ORDERS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED Faculty of Civil Engineering, Slovak University of Technology, Radlinského 11, 813 68 Bratislava, Slovak Republic ISSN 1210-3896 Manuscripts should be submitted in triplicate (with three sets of illustrations of which one is the original), typewritten double-spaced on one side of the paper, and with a wide margin. It is expected that the text will be prepared with a word processor (preferably Microsoft Word). In addition to the hard copy, a floppy disc formatted with MS-DOS should also be submitted to facilitate editing. Discs of size 3.5" and up to 1.44 megabytes' capacity are acceptable. (MS-DOS is a registered trademark of the Microsoft Corporation.) CONDITIONS All manuscripts are subject to editorial review. Two internationally recognised experts (one from abroad) will anonymously review each paper. Manuscripts are received with the explicit understanding that they are not under simultaneous consi- © 2008 Faculty of Civil Engineering deration by any other publication. Submission of an article for publication implies the transfer of the copyright from the author to the publisher upon acceptance. Accepted papers become the permanent property of the Slovak Journal of Civil Engineering and may not be reproduced by any means, in whole or in part, without the written consent of the publisher and the editor. It is the author's responsibility to obtain permission to reproduce illustrations, tables, etc., from other publications. SECTIONS • Originals papers: Original findings pertaining to the scope of the Journal will be published after editorial reviews by two interested persons. • Reviews: Authoritative reviews will be published both from invited experts and by direct submission. In both cases, the work will be subject to editorial review. • Opinion: Short articles, which may be of a controversial nature and stress an original point of view that is not generally accepted, may be published. • Reports: Short reports of relevant conferences are welcomed. • Information: Short communication or descriptive review not of research character, related to specific topic. The work will be not subject to editorial review. ARRANGEMENT • Title page: The first page of each paper should indicate the title, the authors' names, and the institute where the work was conducted. A short title for use as a running head is also required. • Key words: For indexing purposes, a list of 3-6 key words is essential. • Abstract: Each paper requires an abstract of up to 10 lines. • Introduction: A short introduction should begin the substantive text. The objective of the introduction is to place the work described in an appropriate context, and state the aim(s) of the work described in the text. • Materials and methods: This section (only in original papers) will describe the techniques utilised in the investigation and make clear the purpose of the study. In any experimental studies, the manufacturer, model number, sensitivity and other relevant information of any monitoring equipment should be stated in this section. Where appropriate, any statistical tests should be described, supported by a reference to the original citation of the test. In papers of a theoretical nature, possibilities for practical application of the results achieved should be suggested. • Results: Results in original papers should be descriptions of what was found, with appropriate numerical support. If there are a series of steps in the investigation, the authors may find it convenient to present their text under a number of sub-headings. • Conclusions: A brief discussion about the main achievement of the work, stressing any new substantive outcomes. • Units: Authors should use the SI system of units. • Footnotes: Avoid footnotes. When essential, they should be numbered consecutively and typed at the bottom of the appropriate page. Slovak University of Technology Bratislava • Tables and illustrations: Tables and illustrations (both numbered in Arabic numerals) should be prepared on separate sheets. Tables require a heading and figures a legend, and should also be prepared on a separate sheet. For the reproduction of illustrations, only clear drawings and original photographs can be accepted: negatives or photocopies cannot be used. It is preferable to submit figures in a computer-readable format. On the back of each illustration, indicate its number, the author's name, and 'top'. It is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce copyrighted material. • Author: A brief sketch (no more than 4 sentences) of the author's professional career and background is needed that covers the most important present and past affiliations. The main areas of the author's main research interest should be identified. • Full address: The exact postal address, complete with the postal code of the senior author, must be given. If the correspondence is handled by someone else, indicate this accordingly. • References: References to published literature should be quoted in the text by giving the author's name and the year of publication and grouped together at the end of the paper in alphabetical order. References should be consistent with the ISO 690 standard. Journal references should be arranged thus, giving journal titles in full: Pavlík, V. (1994) Corrosion of Hardened Cement Paste by Acetic and Nitric Acids. Part I: Calculation of Corrosion Depth. Cement and Concrete Research 24, 3, 1994, pp. 551-562. In the case of non-English publications the reference should contain both the original title and its translation into English. The title of the journal should be given only in the original language.
